10 on the 10th: February!

OK, I definitely forgot that today was the 10th until about 4:00 in the afternoon! There are days, right? I wallpapered an accent wall in the primary bathroom Saturday. I didn’t start until a little after 1:00pm. Things were going OK for a hot minute. Then, I came to the first cut. Here’s the thing about peel and stick wallpaper…it’s not very flexible. Eventually, I got that first strip done, and I was thrilled. The next strip was easy. Then came the light. Now, you may remember I was determined to do this all on my own. But, Nigel has scared me silly over the years about how electricity can kill you fast! He was an electrical engineer so he sorta knows what he’s talking about. I ended up getting the light down. I won’t bore you with too much more (mainly cuz I’m gonna do a post), but I did break down and have my oldest come to reinstall the light. Look for a post next week, maybe! So, I’m totally blaming my behindness on the bathroom! Please feel free to link up your 10 on the 10th posts whenever as well as any other posts you’d like to share!

Without further ado…

Would you rather celebrate Valentine’s Day at a cozy restaurant or at home cozied up in your favorite jammies? Honestly, I’d love to celebrate Valentine’s Day at a cozy restaurant because I love to eat in restaurants. Nigel and I had a favorite restaurant up north and have yet to find its replacement down here. In the summer, you could eat out on the patio (which looked out on a pond) and watch the ducks and swans. The wait staff kept old biscuits and bread so kids could feed the birds. I really miss that place.

Would you rather eat red velvet cake or wear red velvet? Well, this is a tough one. I love red velvet cake, especially when it has chocolate chips in it. But, as much as I love that cake, I’d rather wear red velvet because I can wear it again and again! It would have to be the right color of red, though, as we’ve established red is not a favorite of mine.

Would you rather receive a heart shaped box of candy or a heart shaped piece of jewelry? Hahaha!!! Do I even need to answer this one? I’d much rather have a heart shaped piece of jewelry even though I already have several. I’m not a huge fan of boxed chocolates anyway. I only like a few of the flavors that come in those. Now, if we’re talking DeBrand’s Chocolate truffles, I might change my mind.

Would you rather eat Reeses Pieces or a Reeses Peanut Butter Heart? Oh, this is an easy one. Reese’s Peanut Butter Hearts, hands down, are the best. I finally figured out why I like the shaped Reese’s. It’s because the chocolate encloses the peanut butter all the way. Have you noticed how, when you unwrap a peanut butter cup, little bits of chocolate are left and/or fall into your lap? So, yep, definitely the peanut butter heart for me!

Would you rather watch a Valentine’s Day themed movie or an action movie? Somehow, I think I will surprise you on this one. I’d rather watch an action movie. Put Jason Statham in it, and I’m even more down for it!

Would you rather give a box of chocolates to your person or a less than wonderful homemade card? Oh, this is a tough one. Nigel says he doesn’t like chocolate (hahaha), and my homemade card capabilities are nil. But, I’m going with the box of chocolates because he actually does like chocolate!

Would you rather go to Tahiti or Iceland for Valentine’s Day? If you’ve been around for a bit, you know I love winter. But, I’ve always wanted to go to Tahiti or Fiji or one of those glorious looking islands. So, this time around, I’m heading to Tahiti!

Would you rather sing “At Last” by Etta James or “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith to your person? Honestly, you don’t want to hear me sing either one, but I’m going with “At Last” because I love that song. And, I think I could, maybe, hit some of the notes.

Would you rather celebrate Valentine’s Day for a week or not at all? I love love so I’m gonna celebrate it all week long! That means I’m several days behind at this point! I’ll have to remember for next year!

Would you rather eat a really sour piece of candy or a single Brussels Sprout dipped in chocolate? I know there are some people who think anything dipped in chocolate is wonderful. I am not one of those people. I like Brussels Sprouts well enough, but I would never dip them in chocolate. Besides that, I love sour candy, especially if it’s gummy candy so candy it is!

Wrap it up, Marsha!

  1. Ok, one Valentine’s Day story, but actually it was mere coincidence that it was Valentine’s Day.
On Saturday morning, my mother woke me to tell me there was a guy on the phone for me. It was someone I had gone to dinner with a few days before, not as an official date, but to use up food vouchers we got from my employer back then. He asked me if I wanted to come and watch a movie with a friend of his and him that evening. They waited for me at the train station (I commuted even back then) and he held a butterfly shaped lollipop for me.
So, Valentine’s Day was actually our “get together anniversary” and it was one of the few times my ex was really romantic.
Despite what his friend claimed as a joke for years, we did NOT neglect him that evening! 😉

    • It’s a lovely story, Cat, even if the relationship didn’t work out. I think guys are much more romantic, for the most part, prior to committing. For many years, I didn’t receive any gifts from Mike. These days, I don’t expect anything, either. But, I will be buying some heirloom rose bushes in the spring so that will be my Valentine’s Day gift!

  2. I’m sorry but everything about Valentine’s Day makes my toes curl! Those restaurants packed with couples sitting quietly …a red rose in front of them (it will never flower properly). But in response to your qs….Red velvet for me, not red velvet cakes….and Iceland rather than Tahiti, as I long to see the Northern Lights. Well done on the wallpapering. Very difficult.

    • I guess I think of Valentine’s Day more as a teacher than anything. I’m not sure if schools celebrate it these days or not, but my students loved it. I can remember passing out my little Valentines when I was a kid, too. Good memories from then. I really want to go to Iceland, but, right now, Tahiti appeals more. Oh, I’m a dab hand at wallpapering. At one point, every room in our house up north was covered with wallpaper. That also means I’m really good at taking it down. I’m hoping the peel and stick will come off quite easily.

      Thanks, Gail, for coming by!

  3. What a fun post. I think that the commercialism of the day takes over and the sentiments get lost under the pressure to perform as we think others want us to.

    • Thanks, Rosie! We really don’t get into Valentine’s that much. In fact, by the time I retired, it wasn’t much of a thing for the kids which was unfortunate. I remember how much I loved passing out my Valentines and candy. I’m sure social media will be full of beautiful ways to celebrate it.

  4. I’ll be back tomorrow to link up my post; my 10 on the 10th is a bit late again this week but I had so many posts scheduled already… and really didn’t want to miss this one. I LOVE Valentine’s day because I too love love. We have lot of the same answers if for different reasons. I can’t wait to see the bathroom redo!

  5. I am now dreaming of a tropical vacation. It doesn’t even have to be Tahiti. Thanks for hosting the link up! Have a great week!

    • Hahaha! I know what you mean, Joyce! Nigel doesn’t really enjoy the beach (weird, right) so we rarely do that.

      Thanks for coming by!

  6. I kept coming back and checking…but then couldn’t find it on your main page so did a search for 10 on the 10th and there it was…lol. I was so excited I actually remembered this month. I liked your answers. These either/or, would you rather questions are always fun to answer and read. How exciting on bathroom redo!

    • Thanks, Kirstin! I completely forgot it was the 10th so I got it out rather late. I’m doing a post on the bathroom later this week.

  7. Definitely celebrate for a whole week!!! I loved this theme and great answers.

  8. Hmmmm, red velvet cake or red velvet clothing? That is a tough one. I think, like you, I would go with the clothing because as you said, we could enjoy it over and over. But goodness, red velvet with chocolate chips is sinfully good.
I would pick Tahiti, too. I love winter and snow but Tahiti is my idea of heaven on earth.
Hope maybe this Valentine’s Day or over the weekend following, you can discover a new restaurant that has similar feels and food to your old fave up north. Happy Valentine’s Day.

    • Thanks, Leslie! Don’t forget the cream cheese frosting, too! Tahiti vs Iceland was a hard choice for me. I’d love to go to Iceland, but right now, Tahiti sounds good. We are going to our oldest granddaughter’s show choir cabaret on Friday so that will probably be the extent of our celebrating. It’s a little difficult to get Mike to go out as he struggles getting out of the chairs at restaurants. But, I’m determined to find that perfect restaurant!

  9. I’d rather watch an action movie, one with Jason Statham also. He’s a legend.

  10. I agree with almost all your answers! I’m perplexed by the question about a Brussel sprout dipped in chocolate. That sounds awful. Lol!

    https://www.kathrineeldridge.com

    • Thanks, Kathrine! I don’t know…sometimes I just come up with strange combinations. Mike has really been into Brussels sprouts lately, and I’m kinda over them in any shape!

  11. This was fun to read! I’m with you on the Reese’s hearts, heart-shaped jewelry, and an action movie! At Last was our wedding song!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • Thanks, Jill! I bet your wedding was beautiful. I love that song, and I’m pretty sure it was our oldest son’s wedding song, too.

  12. I found you from the Hodgepodge. I will have to remember to join in on a 10th! Looks fun!

    • Oh, I do hope you will join in. I try to post the preview on the 2nd or 3rd of the month! It’s always fun to see what others say!

      Thank you and welcome!

  13. I am a fan of Valentine’s Day and an even bigger fan of the Reese’s Peanut Butter shapes (which are definitely even better than the regular cups)!

  14. Well that was fun, Marsha, learning a little more about your likes and dislikes. I hope you celebrate Valentine’s Day in all the ways you love! I’ll be spending it at home with my husband. We will exchange store-bought (but carefully selected) cards and have something yummy for dessert…maybe red velvet cake.

    • Thanks, Christie! We are actually going to our granddaughter’s show choir cabaret so it should be lots of fun. I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

  15. These are so cute! I’ve never heard of DeBrand’s Chocolate truffles, but I clicked over and they look SO good!

    • DeBrand’s is actually from Fort Wayne, IN which was about 20 minutes from where I grew up and lived for almost my entire life. Their truffles are amazing. I would get a box as Christmas gifts when I was teaching. But, their hot fudge sundaes…oh, my goodness! The bowls are made from chocolate, or they were when I was still teaching. There’s a store close to the good mall near me. I may need to stop in there sometime soon and get Nigel a couple. He’ll say he doesn’t like chocolate, but he loves DeBrand’s truffles.

      Thanks, Laura!

  16. This was such a fun 10 on the 10th – even though I’m late commenting! We had quite a few similar answers. I love what you said about peanut butter hearts and you are so right – the hearts are superior, although I love the peanut butter cups as well! Hope you’re having a great weekend!

    • Thanks, Kym! I couldn’t figure it out for the longest time why I liked the shaped peanut butter cups so much better! I also think there’s more peanut butter! Have a wonderful rest of the weekend and an even better week!

  17. I totally forgot to do a post again this month. Oops!
I think it is awesome you are doing that bathroom project. You are much braver than me!
I also only like a few of the chocolates in those boxed ones. Some of the flavors are just awful.
Such a good point about a Reese’s heart. The chocolate does full surround it. Hmmm…
I am not a huge fan of that Aerosmith song but I would probably sing (off key) At Last.

That Valentine’s question is a challenging one but I think I’d say I just wouldn’t celebrate it at all and just celebrate love without the commercialism attached to it. Even though I do like Valentine’s Day. Ooh…so maybe I should go back to the other answer. I am very indecisive person … sigh.

    • Well, I did say you could put your answers in the comments so you did it! What everyone would do at my house with those big boxes of mixed chocolates was to poke through the bottom. That meant I always got left with the really gross flavors. Yes, do try the shaped Reeses…you’ll see exactly what I mean. It’s funny how many people said they didn’t like Valentine’s Day. And, it was because of the commercialism. I was thinking the exact opposite. That it’s the one day a year you actively do something “love”ly for your person. I think it’s because Mike rarely spent loads of money on Valentine’s Day presents. Early on, he learned not to buy me roses as I would prefer a living plant. And, I was/am always watching my weight so chocolates, as a rule, were out. I guess he did almost always buy me a card…but have you seen the price of cards? Sheesh! I wonder if they will go the way of the telegram. Thanks, Lisa! I loved your answers!
