10 on the 10th: September!

I have to tell you, my friends, today was a super duper of a day! Nigel had his follow up with the surgeon, and the implant hasn’t moved any further. In fact, he said it had probably happened the very first time they stood Nigel up on his feet. But, they wanted to be cautious about going forward with therapy to make sure it wasn’t going farther down the femur. That would have resulted in the femur cracking and would have made for a really nasty surgery. TMI, I know! But, so many of you have been so kind in your words of encouragement; I wanted to let you know how well today went! He’s back to full weight bearing on his right leg…of course, he has to work up to that as he’s had some atrophy in that leg. But, we’re on the way again! The left hip replacement won’t probably happen until after the first of the year as it isn’t as bad as the right one. So, thank you for your kind thoughts, healing thoughts, prayers, positive vibes, etc! They definitely paid off!

I’m not exactly sure how this format is going to work, but I thought it might be a fun alternative. Please either link up your post (and any others you’d like), comment, or email me your answers.

Without further ado…

This or that:  A long term meaningful relationship with someone you see only once a year (platonic or otherwise) or lots of short term relatively meaningless relationships with people you see regularly.

I think a long term meaningful relationship will always beat a meaningless relationship. I have two friends I may only see once a year, and we pick up right where we left off. Nigel and I have friends we haven’t seen in decades, and something tells me we would, once again, pick up right where we left off. We’d probably first have to catch up on family type things as well as memories of all the dumb stuff we did when we were all in our early twenties…oh, the dumb stuff! We still laugh til we cry when we remember!

This will be the three of us in a few years!

This or that:  A bouquet of fresh flowers every week or a flowering bush every year.

This is actually a difficult one for me. I’d love a flowering bush every year. My problem is I just don’t have the real estate for it. But, let’s just assume I do. I’d love a few more David Austin rose bushes as well as some butterfly bushes. I’d even throw in some jumbo hydrangeas and some peonies, definitely some peonies.

My Desdemona bush!

This or that:  A luxury, all expenses paid cruise to the Antarctic or a week in a beach shack off the beaten path.

OK, this one may surprise you, but I’d love a luxury, all expenses paid cruise to the Antarctic! I think that would be the epitome of cruises! It’s not that I’m that fond of bone crushing cold, but to be able to say I’d stepped on the continent of Antarctica would be amazing! Besides, nothing says you have to get off of the ship! And, penguins…right?

This or that:  Pumpkin spice everything or pumpkin spice nothing.

Again, I’m probably going to surprise some of you with this one. Pumpkin spice nothing would be my choice. I don’t drink coffee so I wouldn’t miss that. The only thing I really like that has pumpkin spice in it is pumpkin cake. And, you can only eat so much of that before your stomach rebels!

This or that:  Warm, sunny days with high humidity or cold, sunny days with little humidity.

No surprises here! I would definitely order up cold and sunny days with little humidity. As I always tell Nigel, I can put on many more layers to stay warm, but I can only take off so many to keep cool. And, the humidity is a real thing for those of you who experience it. It makes you feel like you’re walking through warmed up maple syrup before it’s actually maple syrup. It’s just thick, viscous, and overpowering!

This or that:  A vintage real fur coat or a new faux fur coat.

I am so interested to read what others write about this one. I can remember one of my aunts having one of those fox stoles with the head still attached to it, and I thought it was just plain gross. The head was just wrong. As much as I would love to say a vintage fur coat, I’d feel badly every time I wore it even though it was vintage. I’m going with a new faux fur coat even though that’s probably horrible for the planet.

A good fur coat!

This or that:  The car of your dreams wrapped with a logo of some kind or the car you currently drive.

This is an easy one for me. I’ll take a 1999 Saab 9-3 coupe, and as long as the logo isn’t for cigarettes, I’m good. I know someone is going to come up with another logo I’d find equally repugnant. I can’t think of one right at the moment. I had a 1999 Saab 9-3, and it was the car of my dreams. Nigel hated it! It spent two of the first six weeks we had it at the dealership. Of course, there was also the night the fan wouldn’t shut off. He insisted we park it at the end of the drive in case it blew up and hurt his Harley! I still loved it!

This or that:  Beautiful stilettos crafted specifically for your feet or sneakers you’ve worn and molded to your feet.

Oh, beautiful stilettos crafted specifically for my feet would be a true engineering marvel as my left foot doesn’t bend. Well, the big toe doesn’t bend as it’s been fused. So, I’m going to have to go with sneakers I’ve worn and are molded to my feet. There are nice looking sneakers; I just know there are!

My beloved Sofft sneaks!

This or that:  The house of your dreams painted in colors you despise or a small cottage you can paint in colors you love.

Well, since I’m the one who wrote these, I also can interpret them the way I want, right? I would choose the house of my dreams painted in colors I despise because no one said how long I had to leave it that way. But, I must admit a cozy little cottage painted in vibrant fun colors does have its appeal, especially if it’s tucked into a little nook of a woods with flowering bushes all around (no candy, I’m not the witch and not expecting Hansel and Gretel).

This or that:  Your favorite food every day for a year or foods you’ve never tried every day for a year.

As much as I’m not very adventurous when it comes to food, I can’t imagine eating the same thing every day for an entire year. See, I did put a time limit on this one. I would have to go with foods I’ve never tried every day for a year. But, my only caveat is that someone else has to cook them! I did try two new to me things on my recent trip. Care to guess what they were?

Wrap it up, Marsha!

Huh! This wasn’t quite as hard as I thought it would be. I was able to complete this in less than an hour so that’s a win, right? Did you guess lamb stew and haggis? If you did, you’re a winner! I’ve never had lamb in my life. My grandpa raised beef cattle so I was raised on beef. And, haggis…well, they did tell us it wasn’t the traditional recipe. But, I also learned the Irish and the Scottish have a bit of an ornery side so who knows what was in that haggis. I didn’t care for the texture so I only ate my tiny bit to be able to say I’d eaten it. So, can we talk? What did you think of this different format? Did any of my answers surprise you? Is this too much like Would You Rather? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as soon as possible.

  1. There are some difficult ones here, where I wouldn’t know what to choose. The fur coat….I don’t even want a pre loved one. And I don’t like anything with pumpkin. Fun read Marsha, I’m glad Nigel is doing well!

    • Thanks, Nancy! I am so glad he’s doing better, too. We just have to get that strength back, and then wait until after the first of the year for the second surgery. I feel so much better than I have for the last two weeks. I’m with you on the pre-loved one. If I could find the right faux fur coat, I’d buy one, but I haven’t really even been looking!

  2. I thought these were pretty easy to answer too and many of our answers line up (I’ll be back tomorrow with my post!). I did pick a small cottage though (mostly because I was lucky enough to have my dream house already and I’m already thinking ahead to downsizing!)…. but my mind immediately went to a seaside cottage which I’ve always wanted. I even have a whole Pinterest board with colors and decor items all picked out.

    • Thanks, Joanne! I have had versions of my dream house, but I want a big old cottage on the East Coast complete with a private beach, and all the windows! And, then I guess I’d want someone to pay for it and continue to pay for it! I can’t wait to read your post!

  3. I am so happy to hear that Nigel had a great appointment and that things are improving – praise God!!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Oh, my goodness, Kellyann! It was probably the happiest I’ve been in a while! I was so afraid we were going to hear the implant had sunk in farther, and he’d need additional surgery. Thank you so much for the prayers!

  4. These were fun questions! I do hate humidity, but I also hate being cold. I had to go with sneakers too!

    • I’m wondering if anyone will choose stilettos! Even when I was younger, I couldn’t ever walk in them. They certainly are pretty to look at, though!

Thanks, Dara! I will be around to read yours tomorrow.

  5. I, too, love a flowering bush but lack real estate. Our lot is very small. We do have a few blooming bushes and I love them.

    • Thanks, Lisa! We only have three feet out from the condo, so I have to take advantage of every little square inch. We also have a “hump” that is pretty much free to do what we want. I’m hoping to add lots of perennials with flowering plants as well as the bushes that are there now.

  6. I loved reading your post. Some of these made me think. I’m so glad NIgel is doing well.

    • Thank you so much, Astrid! His smile is definitely bigger (though that doesn’t take much)! It was a different format, but I think I liked it.

  8. Some of these I had to think about but of course I had fun. The house of my dream one I was like you…didn’t say how long I had to have it that color I can always change it. I also need to start a petition that Apples should be the star of Fall not pumpkins lol

    • Great minds think alike, Kita! I will be around tomorrow to read yours! I could get behind apples being the star of fall though I do love pumpkin cake with thick creamy cream cheese frosting!

      Thanks, Kita!

      • Nice questions. I would also go with Antarctica, and I’d also toy with the idea of real fur (vintage) but not go for it. Pumpkin spice isn’t a thing in the UK, except in Starbucks, so I’d happily pass on that.

        • Thanks, Gail! I thought about vintage fur, but I wondered just how nasty it might be. I think pumpkin spice is probably a big thing in the States rather than around the world. It’s amazing how many people live for it!

  9. jodie filogomo

that last one was a good one. I am of the mind that if something is prepared right, anything can be edible and good. That’s why the good chefs are so good.
    OXOX
    Jodie

    • You may be right, but I’m not sure I’d ever like mushrooms! But, hey, I didn’t think I’d ever try haggis, either!

      Thanks, Jodie!

  10. So very happy to read the good news report on Nigel’s healing, and praying that his recovery continues to go well!

My answers were mostly the same as yours. I kept mine very brief, but your answers about the relationships and the cruise were pretty much how I thought about those ones. I never considered the possibility that a head might still be attached to a vintage fur – yuck! That would be a deal breaker. I didn’t try lamb until a few years ago but I love it. I always get boneless and make kebabs – I think that’s the best way. Lamb chops are delicious but such a small meat to bone ratio!

    • Thank you, Kym! I will take those prayers because he’s still got a ways to go. I’ve never doubted we’d get there, but I thought it would be sooner.

I cannot, for the life of me, remember which aunt had that nasty thing, but I definitely remember the head! I will have another post on Ireland where I talk about the reason sheep are raised! I hope you’ll enjoy it!

  11. So glad to hear about Nigel’s hip and leg! Hopefully he will be up walking even more soon.
I only like pumpkin flavor in pumpkin pie or pumpkin roll. Beyond that – no thanks.
I agree with you on the cooler/sunny days. Humidity makes me so sick and out of it. If it is too cold, I ache, but I can at least find more ways to warm up.
I would choose the small cottage for sure.
Fun list this month! I hope to catch up next month.

    • Thanks, Lisa! He is finding this bit of rehab a bit harder, but I know he will soon be back to 100% soon. I just need to keep being his cheerleader! Pumpkin pie is one of those things I made myself sick on when I was a kid…now, I just can’t do it. But, pumpkin cake/roll…love it!!

I do hope you’ll join us some month!

  12. It was really fun to read your answers! The PSL one was interesting. I don’t like most PSL things, but the few I do like…I really like them!

  13. Yay, I remembered to join this month..haha…but now I’m behind in commenting. I enjoyed your answers. We have a lot of deer, so I think they’d eat roses if I had them. Haha..I laughed at you saying you can interpret them how you want…lol. My answer to that question was similar.

    • I’m so glad you remembered, too, Kirstin! I always think I have oodles of time to get the preview ready, and then, all of a sudden, it’s the sixth of the month! I think rabbits eat more of my plants than deer at this house, but we did have deer at our last house. Yes, I learned to interpret my questions the way I wanted from another blogger!

      Thanks, Kirstin!
