Spring trends for denim jackets…
I’m hearing the spring trends for denim jackets this spring are for a softer silhouette. It’s less truck driver and more schoolmarm. OK, that may be stretching it, but I was trying to come up with some kind of dramatic comparison! Anyhoo, don’t give away your more tailored and traditional denim jackets because we all know they’ll be back!
Spring trends…
In my last post, Spring Trends 2024, I wrote a bit about the spring trends for denim as in jeans. Today, I’m focusing on the denim jacket. Spring trends call for this softer silhouette with a more relaxed bottom as opposed to that band with the tabs and buttons. When I see some of the offerings, they remind me of a relaxed shorter blazer as opposed to a traditional denim jacket. I honestly hadn’t intended to add a new denim jacket to my closet until I saw this one in J Jill the other day. I remembered what I’d read about the softer silhouette and liked the way it fit. I do like that I don’t have to worry about that daggone bottom band. It bothers me so much I cut it off one jacket (here).
Which reminds me…
In Tuesday’s post, I wrote a lot about the production of denim and what it does to our planet as well as our wallets. Today (Wednesday), I read this post from Alison at Wardrobe Oxygen. Alison is one of the best bloggers out there. She is honest, matter of fact, and has no problems with dropping the occasional swear word. But, her post really hit me hard. I do hope you’ll read it because there is information about pricing, manufacturing, and so much more. Alison just reinforces to me that I need to shop my closet more and more. So, with that being said, you can expect to see many things rerun on the blog. But, as many bloggers are trying to get across, there is a huge difference between wearing and styling. I’ll be styling items differently.
Just a bit of a boohoo…
Nigel and I went to the art museum today. I was running late; my new hairspray is crap; my hair went flat. We got to the museum, snapped a few photos, and then stopped. When I looked at the photos, I realized I didn’t like the way my hair looked. That meant you, my friends, would be able to see that I wasn’t excited about my outfit. If I’m not happy with my outfit, why would I blog about it? Well, that led to me saying something out loud that I’d been thinking…am I done with blogging?
A little more boohooing…
I am totally impressed with bloggers who post every day. I try for Tuesdays and Thursdays though that changes from week to week with being a curator for Style Imitating Art. But, blogging is hard. I’m not saying that to garner any pity. I’m just stating the facts. You have to take the photos (unless you’ve made it big and have a professional photographer and stylist), then you have to upload and download (or is it the other way round). Next, you have to figure out what to say that hasn’t been said eleventy million times before. And, some days, when you’ve so completely and utterly failed at your one task…to smile pretty at the camera…you question why you’re doing what you do. Today was one of those days for me. We got home. I redid my hair which was completely stiff by the time I finished (but, dang, it looks good), and we reshot the photos. I don’t know what it is about our front porch, but the photos just work better there. I know it’s not dramatic or scenic, but the lighting is perfect! Anyway, as we finished, Nigel looked at me and said, “I don’t want you to quit blogging. You love it.” I’m tearing up as I write this because that was exactly what I needed to hear. So, sorry, guys, but you’re stuck with me blathering on for a bit longer!
My outfit…
As I said, I’m going to be repeating items, and what better item to repeat than these Liquid Leatherโข – Front Pocket Gauchos from Clara Sunwoo. I wanted to show them on the blog once more before transitioning into more spring looks. This time, I added a striped tank from Talbots and a very old scarf from Old Navy. As I look at the photos, this may not have been the best way to wear the scarf, but I wanted to have the tank showing at the same time for a little print mixing.
The Lewk!
I thought these blue Galop Boots from L’Artiste would work with my color scheme. And, they add another print into the mix. I then added in some sparkles with necklace and earrings from Kendra Scott bought during the after Christmas sales as well as a silver cuff from J Jill. This daggone thing will not stay on my wrist the right way. I decided to start a new spring trend…wear your bracelet upside down or wrong side showing!
Wrap it up, Marsha!
As far as I know, this wraps up the Marsha in the Middle Spring Trends 2024 posts. But, if that changes, you’ll be the first to know. I have to confess that I haven’t tracked my spending since January, but just knowing that spreadsheet is alive and well on my laptop has kept me from purchasing so much! My plan is to buy only with gift cards and rewards points for the most part! I have a huge pile of clothing to take to the consignment store. I’m thinking of listing it on Poshmark. If you’re interested in any April Cornell, J Jill, or Talbots items, let me know and I’ll list them, then give you a great deal! As of right now, they’re just in a huge pile in my closet…neatly folded and on a chair…but still taking up space! So, can we talk? How are you doing with Spring trends 2024? Are there any you are scouting for? Are then any you have decided, nope, not for me? If you read Alison’s post, what did you think? Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as soon as possible.
10 on the 10th…
I will have a 10 on the 10th preview post up sometime tomorrow (Thursday). Can you tell I wrote this at the very last minute?

How can you even consider quitting Marsha! We all have those days. And if you think you are the only one with a bad hair day……….. think again…..lol. No, I’m sorry Marsha, but you are destined to humor is with your words!
Oh, Nancy! I wish I could reach through my laptop and hug you. You make me feel so good. I’m glad you see the humor in my posts. I try to be entertaining. I love your hair though I’m sure you have bad hair days, too!
Awww – your hub is sweet! You put an incredible amount of work into each post and I think that is what is maybe what you are saying. Many of my posts are quick to write. I just take one mirror photo for my outfits. I also have my routine of Hello Monday and Friday Favorites that help. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good? Is that how the saying goes? Also, don’t turn a fun hobby into something stressful and adapt to what works for you now in this season?
I love your hair and I love this outfit. I like how you did the liquid leather.
Alison is awesome! I have been following Wardrobe Oxygen for quite some time. Love her!
I’ve been trying hard to wear what I already have. I even think the rental service is helping my shopping addiction!
I love all denim jackets and this one is fun because it’s more unique!
Xoxo
Jodie
Thanks, Jodie! When I think about how much I used to buy (even before the blog), I’m astounded and almost embarrassed. But, I also know I was trying to fill the hole my mom’s death left in me (didn’t know I was that deep, right). This jacket is really different from every other one I have so I’m glad to have gotten it.
Thanks, Amy! I like that saying! Trust me, I’m far from perfect so good is a good thing! There are days I think I should cut the number of photos I put in, but I like the way it turns out. Maybe I’m the only one, though! The only time I get stressed is when I see I’ve lost a subscriber or two. That kinda hurts. I don’t know why I ever told my stylist I wanted bangs! It took me years to grow them out the last time. They’re now in that horrible in between time! Are you in Alison’s Facebook group? She’s taking a group of women to New Mexico, I think. If I wasn’t going to Scotland/Ireland, I might have gone along. It was almost as much as my trip to the UK, though. I love her attitude, but I rarely can afford the cool things she buys. I wouldn’t mind growing my blog as big as hers and getting all the freebies…hahaha!!! I also don’t want to work that hard! She is one of the reasons I blog. She had a swimsuit collaboration and asked for models to be in it. Guess who one of them was?
I am so glad to have found your blog … don’t you dare stop! Seriously, your blog is always fun and interesting and real and I so look forward to your posts. You have such a great eye for color and pattern mixing which I think is a difficult thing to do. But you do it very well! What a very sweet husband you have!
Thank you so much, Beth! You have made my day! I am glad you found my blog, too. I try to be fun and hope people “hear” what I’m writing in the way I want them to. I have always loved to play with putting things together so I’m glad it shows. And, yes, Nigel is a sweetheart! He puts up with so much from me!
I really like this denim jacket, the softer silhouette is great in the warmer weather too!
I understand where you are coming from with the blog. Every year at this time all of my fees are due – the domain name registration, the hosting, etc. It costs an arm and a leg and I wonder why I am continuing. My pictures are crap, I don’t have the time to go to locations and I don’t have a photographer. But, at the end of the day it’s a fun hobby so I may be a glutton for punishment, but I am still here. We all go through this so you are in good company my sweet friend!!!
xo,
Kellyann
Thanks, Kellyann! Ugh…those fees…there are just so many of them, and I don’t even know if I need the ones I’ve got! I am glad I have the domain name, though. I don’t think your pictures are crap at all…but I respect your feeling that way. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a photographer who knew just the right angle and just the right lighting? I like going to the park, but I still don’t like taking photos in front of people. I’m sure my neighbors think we’re both nuts! I know I am in the best of company, my friend!
You look lovely! Each time I think I am done with blogging I take a little break and find that after a week I just can not wait to start sharing again. That blazer is really nice; I don’t THINK I’m looking for anything for spring but I know myself well enough to know that I will definitely end up buying something. ๐
Thanks, Joanne! I honestly was just having a bad day, but I’ve been wondering if it was worth it to keep blogging. I don’t have that much traffic. I just need to remember the people who are here are the ones who matter! Oh, I am sure I’ll buy something(s) more this spring!
Aww that is so sweet! I am so glad he said the right thing at the right time because I would miss your cheerful posts! Since I took a break I have been trying posting less and not making it feel like I “have to” post, because it does start to feel sometimes like work. And I don’t even have to make myself all presentable for photos. LOL. That would make things a lot harder. ๐
That jacket is adorable – I like the softer silhouette much better than the band and tabs and all that like you said.
Thank you, Erin! I was actually really surprised he said that…he actually doesn’t know I spend money just running this blog! The photos are almost the easy part…at least when my hair cooperates. It’s the coming up with what to write. But, at least, I’m not depending on it for an income, or we’d be eating ramen every meal, every day! I’m so very glad I found your blog and you!
I think you’re right about using what’s in our closet and styling it better. I think we all get a little lazy. And don’t stop blogging. Give yourself a break if you need time off to recharge but when you come ack, it all pours out. But give yourself flexibilty. You don’t have to post daily. You don’t have to always link up. Just make it work for you.
Thank you, Lydia! You are so kind. I was just having an off day…dang hair! Anyway, I am really going to try to work my closet. Goodness knows there’s plenty in there!
I have those days, too, when I want to stop blogging. It is a lot of work, and I can barely keep up with it sometimes, but I do love it still. I would hate to see you stop – I love your blog! I also love the cut of your denim jacket! It’s super cute!
Jill – Doused in Pink
Thank you so much, Jill. That really means a lot to me as you’ve been blogging for far longer than me. I was just having a hard day…all due to my hair! I love how nonchalant yet fashionable you always look in your photos. You were born to blog!
Your husband is so sweet! I am not sure anyone really understands me in my family but they all go along with it! I do know that my hubby does like the way I dress and he is quick to compliment me. I really like this look of yours! I haven’t paired a denim jacket with my skinny liquid leather pants and I think I could recreate something like this with what I have in my closet: that means I need to take a picture of you and I will be writing an inspired by you post next month!
http://www.chezmireillefashiontravelmom.com
You know…it’s funny because I never thought he would take to being my photographer the way he has. It’s not that he tells me how to pose, but it’s more that he’s always open to taking photos. It’s rare for Mike to compliment me on an outfit. I think that’s because I now dress so much differently than I did when I was teaching.
Oh, that’s a huge compliment! I can’t wait to see your blog post!
Thanks, Mireille!
So many ways you can style a denim jacket, Marsha. As always you look very stylish. I have a blue denim and a white denim jackets and I’ve just ordered a red one!
Thank you, Sue! I used to have an aqua denim jacket but could never quite figure out how to wear it. I suppose I could do it now, though! I hope you’ll share your red jacket!
I love this denim and leather combo! Those pants look so good on you! I can see where you can get down on blogging a bit at times. But the community is so good at bringing you back up! I’ve been at it 11 years now and I keep wondering how much longer I can go on as my kids’ schedules get crazier. But I would miss it so much otherwise!
Thanks, Laura! I really do like the versatility of these pants. I really should have done a look with pumps, but there’s always next year! Eleven years? That is amazing, Laura! I think my biggest hang up is always what to write about next! But, somehow, I always come up with something!
