August 10 on the 10th: Preview!

I’m not sure about where you live, but here in Central Indiana, many of the schools are already back in session. Gosh, I remember not starting school until the Friday before Labor Day. We only went for half a day, and then school began in earnest on the Tuesday after Labor Day. These days, it seems like the summers get shorter and shorter for kids. My oldest grands do get two weeks off in October, December, and March. I realize part of that is because so many families take extra days off when there’s a school vacation time coming up. It’s easier to just build in those days. Another part is we’re not the agrarian society we once were. But, it’s time for another 10 on the 10th, and I think you’ll like this one! I decided to make it easy for you…actually, for myself, too!

10 on the 10th…

At first, I was going to go with ten things you liked about school. Then, I realized I may be in the minority. I mean, I loved school. Obviously, I did because I became a teacher. I know that’s not always the case for everyone so I gave you options! You can divide those ten things up anyway you like! I hope you’ll participate and join in on all the fun with this month’s prompt. There will also be a link party on the 10th! Remember, your posts don’t have to specifically be 10 on the 10th posts.

Thank you!

I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for reading, commenting, subscribing or emailing! It truly means so much to me! If you’d like to follow me on Instagram, you can find me here.

  1. Ooh, fun prompt, Marsha! I always loved school, too. Because I am a bit of a nerd! Haha. But there were definitely some things I didn’t like so much. I think I will enjoy diving into my memory bank to write this post.

  2. Oh this sounds like fun!

  3. Hi, Marsha – I really believe in children having free play time to be creative and imaginative. I think it’s a pity that schools are taking a big chunk of their summer away from them. It’s way too hot in August nowadays to have children sitting all day at school. Unless they’re all installing air conditioning now. But still, it’s a shame. My Dad was an artist and taught general ed to get a steady income for our big family. And my son’s partner is a math teacher. I always enjoyed school and excelled at it, going on to have a blast in college and studying abroad. I’ll be back to read your ten on the tenth. I’m looking forward to it! – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

    • Thanks, Angie! I agree with you 100%. I also think it’s sad that what Kindergartners do today is what first graders did when my kids were in school. And, if a child hasn’t been to preschool, they are already at a disadvantage. I cannot tell you how hot my classroom was for most of the years I taught. When they finally put air conditioning in our building, there was lots of rejoicing! I do hope you’ll give the 10 on the 10th a try some time!

  4. That’s a fun prompt Marsha and would you believe next year is the 50th anniversary of my last year at high school. I enjoyed school although it was much stricter back then in the way we learned and were taught compared to these days. I’m not sure I can participate this month but hopefully back on tract next time. Enjoy your holidays abroad and thanks for hosting the #WeekendTrafficJamReboot. xx
