Welcome to the Gallery of Style! I don’t know how I happened to think of these two prints, but I’m so glad I did. I hope you enjoy all the different interpretations in our Gallery of Style! If you’d like to read more about why I selected this piece of art, you can find that here. To read more about the art, the artist, and my outfit, you can find that here! But, you’ve come to see not me, but the others who have joined in on the styling for “The Lovers,” right?
Gallery of style…
First up is my friend from St. Paul…Sally. I encourage you to visit Sally’s blog. She always has a little extra thrown in…make sure you read the entire post. You’ll see what I mean! Sally says, “I was primarily inspired by the blue and pink color palette and feminine details of the woman’s dress in creating my casual weekend outfit, but I did borrow the idea of long pants (jeans in my case) and a vest from the gentleman. Because my husband is not a cooperative poser for photographs, I had to enlist another one of my loves in my submission…which of course is the rabbit on my top! He is even wearing a beret to capture the hat-wearing of the couple in the painting.” And, I’m betting Sally made her jewelry!
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey and one of our curators has such unique jewelry. She usually uses a brooch or two. This time, it’s something different. She says, “wanted something to reflect both the colors and the feminine/masculine touches of the couples’ outfits, but flipped around – my brown piece (this skirt) would be the feminine one, and the blue piece (the striped button-up) is the masculine one. My shoes are kind of both – the black color is masculine, but the bows are feminine. And finally, I added my “dandies” collar chain because the gentlemen in the prints kind of look like dandies (even though the prints are Victorian rather than Georgian).”
Next is Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge. Here’s what she says, “Because this art reminded me of the art I inherited from my grandmother, I started with my grandmother’s blue shawl that she made over 50 years ago. I also inherited the shawl! And it happened to be the perfect shade of blue and vintage style to capture the essence of the courting couple. I saw lots of pale greens and powder blues in the artwork, so I paired my shawl with a green and blue floral print dress. I added an old thrifted scarf with floral embroidery in shades of red which represents the bow detail along the bottom of the lady’s gown. I wore a cloche hat with a ribbon because it is most similar to a bonnet and my brown riding boots represent the man’s outfit.”
Since I don’t own any poufy blue ballgowns with nary a pink bow in sight, I chose a plain blue denim dress and added pink accessories. I embellished this Target straw hat with some ribbons, added a lacy shawl my daughter gave me decades ago along with the pink jewelry and fun sandals. I like this look and would definitely wear it anywhere (almost anywhere).
And, that’s a wrap for this Gallery of Style!
I hope you enjoyed this week’s Gallery of Style for Style Imitating Art…thank you to Sally, Salazar, and Shelbee (I feel like I need to change my name to something starting with S) for participating. Remember, you don’t have to have a blog to be a part of this style challenge. You can send a photo to the curator to be included in the gallery of style! We’d love to have more people join in! You can also still send me a photo, and I’ll edit the post to include you!
Coming up…
I hope you’ll come back next Monday to see the art work we’ll be styling and imitating! And, please visit all of the people who participated in this week’s challenge!
