Did y’all notice there wasn’t any Final Friday post last week? I have to tell you I spent days doing all the reading for my first “real” docent training class. They said it was quick reading…hahaha!!! But, you can ask me about ancient Egypt and the civilizations that came after, and I might have an answer for you! If you’re interested in what’s going on with my training, let me know in the comments. I’ll do a short post on it! Today, instead of doing two separate posts, I thought I’d combine the 10 on the 10th preview with a mini review of some hair products I was gifted.
10 on the 10th…
First, it’s time for a Would You Rather, don’t you agree? I checked, and I did that with February last year. Of course, that meant I had to come up with completely different ones. I’ll admit I did google and use a few from a couple different places. As always, when we have a Would You Rather 10 on the 10th, you can just answer the questions. But, it’s so much more fun when you give reasons for your answers!

On to the review…
I was contacted by Vegamour way last summer to see if I’d like to try their products. I was thrilled because, as most of you know, I’m battling a thinning and receding hairline. I received the products early in July. I contacted the company to see if I could wait until I’d returned from my trip to Ireland and Scotland. They were fine with that so I started on September 4th. I received shampoo, conditioner, a serum, a scalp detoxifying serum, and dry shampoo. The photos were taken in September, November, and January. So, each set of three begins with September and ends with January.

The products…
I don’t see the kit I received. The closest would be the GRO Essentials Kit (plus GRO Dry Shampoo and GRO Scalp Detoxifying Serum). I wash my hair three times a week; however, I do wet it every day. I use conditioner of one kind or another because my hair tangles quite easily. The shampoo contains Biotin, Biomimetic Peptides and Caffeine, and Karmatin. Karmatin is “a vegan keratin alternative, formulated without silicones, that adds hydration, strength, and shine without weight.” I found the scent to be a little strange. I couldn’t pinpoint the scent, but it wasn’t necessarily one I enjoyed. The shampoo lathered up quite well. This is how I shampoo. I put about a nickel sized amount of shampoo in my palm, rub my palms together slightly to emulsify the shampoo. Then, I put one palm at the base of my head and the other on top. This seems to make shampoo lather up so much faster. I also massage my scalp to clean it well. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

A little more…
The conditioner is a star! I love it! I have to be really careful with conditioner as my hair is so thin and fine. If I use too much, my hair is just plain flat. But, this conditioner…it is luxurious! I use a good amount of it and begin working it into my hair beginning at the ends and working up to the scalp. As I do this, I’m also massaging my scalp to further cleanse it. I then wash my body and shave my legs. After doing all that, I rinse the conditioner from my hair. I use this conditioner probably three times a week. I have several other conditioners I alternate on the days I don’t use this one. It contains Karmatin as well, red clover and mung bean blend, and Biotin. I didn’t notice any kind of scent in the conditioner. It does a really good job of detangling my hair and doesn’t weigh it down.

Still more…
I applied the Gro Serum every night for more than three months (until it ran out). This was easily applied with a dropper. The serum is a liquid so I had to apply it and then quickly massage it into my scalp. I did this at night and found it easily brushed through in the morning. It contains Biotin, Biomimetic Peptides and Caffeine, and red clover and mung bean blend. Like the conditioner, I didn’t notice a scent.

The other two…
The scalp detoxifying serum was ok. I used it on days when I’d gone a little heavy with products the day before. I honestly didn’t notice any difference one way or the other. I probably wouldn’t buy this. Now, I’m going to admit to something. I am not a fan of dry shampoo. I’ve tried several different kinds and have never had any luck with them. It’s probably more user error than anything. I just feel like I’ve got some kind of gunk on my scalp rather than having it feel clean. This product was the same. I had been told by sales associates at a name brand skin and hair care company that some people use dry shampoo as a texturizing spray before styling their hair. I didn’t try that with this brand. I definitely wouldn’t buy this as I don’t use dry shampoo.

My opinion…
I know many bloggers have had lots of luck with Vegamour. I really wanted this to work. If you look closely, you can see a tiny bit of growth on the temples. I wish I’d thought to actually measure the space from my eyebrows to my hairline. I don’t see much improvement in that area at all. Nigel says he sees it, but I think he’s actually looking at the temple area rather than my actual hairline. I asked my hair stylist if she could tell a difference, and she said no. So, that kinda sealed it for me. One other thing I noticed was that my hair lost its silvery luster when I was using only the Vegamour shampoo. After the three months, I started using my purple shampoo, and the silver came back.
Disclaimer…
Here’s the thing. I have very thin hair to begin with. Combine that with having silver hair, and my scalp shows through quite easily. I also have Hashimoto’s Disease which, for me, means I have hypothyroidism. One of the symptoms is hair loss. I do take a medication for my thyroid, but it’s not the same as having a fully functioning thyroid! As you can see in many of the photos, I have barely any eyebrows, either. I think this system may work for you if your hair isn’t as thin as mine. It may also work if you start at a younger age than I am. Would I buy this system? The short answer is no. I would consider buying the conditioner, but I still have plenty of it. That’s one thing I noticed. The products, with the exception of the hair serum, last for a long time. I probably have enough shampoo and conditioner for another three months. Part of that is because I don’t use it every day. I honestly wish I could endorse this product, but it really didn’t do that much for me.
Thank you!

I think I’ll skip the 10 on the 10th this month because the questions don’t really work for me being single. I never did Valentine’s Day in the usual sense even when I wasn’t 🙂
I would be interested in hearing about your docent training, though!
Cat
https://catswire.blogspot.com/
Thanks, Cat! I will definitely write a post about the docent training in a few weeks, once I’ve got more sessions done. Sorry about the 10 on the 10th. I will remember that for next year.
Nothing to be sorry about, Marsha!
Looking forward to hear about your sessions.
Great post Marsha, very through about the products. I tried this too but was worried about stripping my hair colour. Upon speaking to my hairdresser he said some of his clients said the same thing about lack lustrous hair with no shine! Great piccys though xx Jacqui
Thanks, Jacqui! I didn’t notice it for several weeks and then blamed it on the quality of our water. Then, I put two and two together, and I realized it had started with the shampoo. I am glad (I think) to know I’m not the only one.
A very honest review; my mom gave me her very fine, very thin hair but luckily my genes seemed to have combined that with my dad’s and oldest sisters very, very thick and abundant hair. The way my hairdresser puts it; I have fine hair but lots and lots of follicles. But I do worry about it thinning out. It’s one reason why I keep going back to perms and curls each and every time because it does make my hair look so much thicker and fuller.
I have lots and lots of hair at the back of my head. My youngest sister (who was my stylist for decades until we moved) told me I had lots of follicles, too. Unfortunately, they’re not at the front of my head where I want it! Oh, when I got perms, it was even worse. The partings for the perm rods were visible for 2-3 weeks after I got the perm. I’m glad you have success with that.
Thanks, Joanne!
Thanks for your honest review Marsha! So sorry it didn’t give you what you hoped for. I saw a little difference but I’m so lazy when it comes to applying the serum after taking a shower so I don’t really use it anymore. Lol!
https://www.kathrineeldridge.com
You’re welcome, Kathrine! I was so very hopeful because so many other bloggers definitely saw big differences. I had to really look hard to see any change. That’s probably because of my thyroid issues as well as the color of my hair (or even my age).
I’m a little confused about the pictures. What does the first, the middle and the last reflect?
Oh, I’m sorry! I forgot to add that. The first one is taken in September. The middle one is November. The last is January. I’m going to edit my post to add that information. Thanks for reminding me!
That’s funny you say that about the smell because I love it.
I know when I went to a curly girl hairstylist, she recommended a detoxifying shampoo so I always thought it was more for curly hair. But maybe that’s because curly hair girls have to use a lot of products??
XOOX
Jodie
I think the smell is just stronger than I’m used to in my other shampoos. I rotate through shampoos and conditioners all the time. I have to be careful of how much product I put on my hair. Just that skosh too much, and I’ve got super flat, lifeless hair. My granddaughter uses lots of product. Her hair is really thick and curly. She definitely didn’t get that from me!
Thanks, Jodie!
Hi Marsha,
I didn’t know you had Hashimotos. That must be tough to deal with at times too. I used Vegamour growth and found it worked at my temples, but then after I stopped using it, I no longer see the growth. Nevertheless, I liked some of the products. You did a great review and I love the conditioner as well. I’d like to hear about the course your are taking. 🙂
jess xx
Thanks, Jess! I’m going to wait just a bit to write about my training, but I am definitely going to do it. Yes, I’ve had thyroid issues for years but didn’t know it was Hashimoto’s until I saw an endocrinologist. For the most part, I don’t have any problems, but the thinning hair is most likely a result of it. My stylist did tell me that’s often the case with any of the growth serums. If you stop using them, the hair growth also stops.
Very nice post Marsha! Thanks for the genuine and the honest review. Wishing you a great day!
Rampdiary
Thanks so much, Jyoti! I am glad you liked the review. I truly wish the products had worked for me, but they didn’t. I have seen many bloggers who have had success with these products, though.
I also have hypothryoidism but they keep saying I don’t show the antibodies for Hashimotos. I don’t have thinning hair or some of the other symptoms that go with thyroid issues so sometimes I really wonder what is going on but I am on medication for it.
Sorry this didn’t work for you.
It’s really funny because, initially, my blood tests didn’t indicate anything. My allergist was the one who pointed it out. My PCP agreed something was going on and put me on meds. My numbers went up for a bit but have been stable for years now. I never had really thick eyebrows, but I did have to tweeze them into some semblance of shape. Then, one day I realized there wasn’t much there at all! Sometimes, I think about having them tattooed on, but, with my luck, I’d end up with a perpetual look of surprise!
Thanks, Lisa!
Interesting, as I had not heard of this brand. This reminds me of an expensive product I bought at the mall for my face, to tighten the lines around my eyes. It seemed to help a little after several months, but no more than other less costly ones. I try to balance trying new things, but not every new thing. Sometimes it’s just a matter of which I like better for whatever reason.
Thanks, Aletha! I had read about this product on many blogger’s posts. I was so hopeful as they had really good results. I can tell there is some growth at the temples but not at my hairline. As far as skincare…I’m so fickle. I’m always jumping around. What I really dislike are those tiny little samples they give you. You need to have a couple of weeks if not months to see any difference, right?
I would definitely rather celebrate Valentine’s Day at home in my comfy pajamas eating red velvet cake. That sounds quite lovely. My husband and I don’t typically celebrate Valentine’s Day much. We do exchange cards, and now I’m tempted to buy us a red velvet cake for a rare treat!
Do you have a Nothing Bundt Cakes near you? They have the absolute best red velvet cakes! And, now I’m hungry!
Thanks, Christie!
I do have a Nothing But Bundt Cakes close by, and I love their red velvet cake. Thank you for reminding me of that. I think I know what I’m having for a Valentine’s Day treat!
Love these questions. I truly like a nice at home chill Valentine day and I like to celebrate it on the day that it doesn’t fall on because it’s always so crowded out and about. I love your review too. I think most bloggers when they review they try to say things are oh so great and you gave the real deal and I appreciate that.
Thanks so much, Kita! We rarely go out to celebrate Valentine’s. My husband always used to make sure he’d gotten me a card and some flowers, but he can’t drive right now. I felt badly I couldn’t give these products a stella review, but they honestly didn’t seem to do much of anything for me. I did like the conditioner, but I doubt I’ll order it as I like to just pick them up at Ulta.
