Welcome to another edition of Style Imitating Art! If you’re new to the blog, or just need a refresher, Style Imitating Art is a really cool idea pairing fashion with art. Last year, I joined Shelbee and Salazar as curators for SIA. We begin with a piece of art, create looks based upon that art, and share them on our blogs. Think of it as fashion meets art museum! Anyone and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in on the fun. You don’t have to be a blogger to participate, either! I selected our inspiration artwork this week.
Update…
Nigel had his left hip replaced Thursday. Everything was going well until it wasn’t! Long story short, he spent a night in the hospital. He came home late Friday afternoon, and it’s been days of dispensing meds and trying to grab naps. He’s already walking so much better than he has in over a year. I’m not sure how often I’ll be blogging in the coming days. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a photo shoot for the Songful Style song, so I’m not posting for that. And, I love that song. If you want to link up, check out Shelbee’s or Suzy’s blogs. Thank you for all the good wishes!
How it works…
Here are the details: Every other Monday, one of us will select a piece of art. That is shared via all three co-hosts’ blogs. On the following Monday, all three share their looks on their blogs. If you choose to participate, send a photo to the curator for that particular week. You, as well as the other participants, will be featured on the curator’s post that Wednesday. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! If you decide to play along this time, please send your photo to me by Tuesday, June 3rd at 10:00 pm EST to be included. I hope you will join us! I think this could be the best way to start something new! Remember, you don’t have to be a blogger to be a part of this. You can snap a photo and send it in. We love to have readers join in on the fun, too.
Why…
Some of you probably remember the series, “The Six Wives of Henry VIII,” shown on PBS here in 1970. I remember barely able to restrain myself, waiting for the new episodes which aired on Sundays (as I recall). My family wasn’t exactly thrilled about watching it, but they tolerated it and me. I haven’t tried to find it, but I’m sure it’s out there somewhere. I was positively enthralled with the story and probably didn’t realize it was based on real people. I’ll admit Anne Boleyn was my favorite. I’ve continued to watch anything about these seven people as well as reading so much! And, it’s because of this, that I picked Katherine Parr’s portrait. She was feisty yet smart enough to know when to back down so she kept her head!

How I do it…
I usually look closely at the piece of art, looking for objects, graphic or geometric qualities, colors, themes. Then, I just let it percolate in my head for a few days. Next, I go into my closet and see what springs out at me. Sometimes, the inspiration comes as I’m lying in bed. You just never know. Shelbee does an amazing job of adding props, if appropriate, to the artwork. Salazar almost always has a unique brooch or waistcoat that works! I often rely on scarves to add certain elements. But, honestly, there’s no way to do this wrong! Please do think about joining in on the fun! Once you try Style Imitating Art, you’ll find it becomes easier and easier.

That’s fantastic news about Nigel! Now, I wish him a speedy recovery. We have been several times to the castle that Henry gave to Anne. Loved those stories about him and his wives!
Thank you, Nancy! He’s a little less excited than I am because he just wants to walk the way he used to. Everyone tells him he’s doing very well. Hopefully, he’ll listen to them if not me! I would love to go to that castle. I really wish they had cameras back then! I would love to have seen all of them.
Glad to hear that Nigel’s surgery was successful. Take the time off that you need.
Thanks so much, Rosie! I don’t want to take too much time off as this is my creative outlet. But, what will be will be.
Hi Marsha and just to say it’s lovely to hear that Nigel is making progress, and yes, you take all the time off you need. We’ll still be around. Take care both of you X
Thank you so much, Penny! He’s doing well and saw the physical therapist today. He will begin actual therapy on Thursday. I will be posting sporadically for a bit. Thank you again!
Marsha, I am so glad Nigel is home and recovering. I absolutely love this choice of artwork although I was completely stumped at first about what to wear. And then my closet magic happened yesterday in a really cool way. I will share the story in my blog post next week!
Shelbee
Thank you, Shelbee! He is doing better every day, especially with balance. When you consider he’s still recovering from the first hip surgery, he really is doing well. I am completely stumped…I need to figure something out and then get someone to take photos. Mike wasn’t happy when I said I needed to find someone. He thought I was firing him…hahaha!!
I am so glad to hear that Nigel is already walking better (and so soon after surgery too!). Hopefully it will all be uphill from here. I know he’s had quite the struggle.
Thanks, Joanne! Yes, they have them up and walking as soon as possible. This time was a little different from the last time, but he’s doing quite well.
The good thoughts keep coming and the fingers and paws stay crossed for a quick recovery!
Hope Nigel has had a great weekend and continues to Make progress. So glad to hear he’s moving better than he has in a year. You may not be able to keep up with him soon!
Have you read any of Philippa Gregory’s books? I really enjoyed The Other Boelyn Girl. And many others. It’s been awhile since I’ve read any of her books though. Beautiful painting of maybe the wisest of Henry’s queens.
Thanks so much, Leslie! I am so glad he opted to have this surgery sooner rather than later. I know it’s hard for him right now, but I’m hopeful (for the first time in a very long time) that he’ll be so much better soon.
I love Philippa Gregory and have read nearly all of her books. I really enjoyed the trilogy (I think) about the Red Queen, White Queen, and another queen (don’t remember who, though). Mike even knows a little because I’m always telling him little things.
Thank you, Cat! Please give my regards to Gundel and der Dekan for their crossed paws, too!
Wishing Nigel a speedy recovery! Be sure to take care of yourself as well. XO
Thanks so much, Christie! I really appreciate your kind words. I’m taking little naps often to make up for those around the clock pain meds!
I’ve been wondering about Nigel and saying prayers. Glad to hear that there is at least some progress. I hope things continue to get better.
Thanks, Lisa! He had P/T today, and the therapist was impressed with how well he is doing. He’s a little foggy due to pain meds. We will be weaning those in the next week or so.
I’m so glad your husband is walking better already!
Xoxo
Jodie
Thanks, Jodie! It has been a journey. I’m amazed when I see the x-rays of what his right femoral ball looked…completely collapsed. The left wasn’t near as bad, but the leg was just so painful as he relied so heavily on it. I will be glad when he’s back to just his cane and walking around the neighborhood again.
I’m so happy to hear that your husband’s procedure was a success and he’s making progress! Hang in there! I know how exhausting it is when we have to step up to be caretakers.
Jill – Doused in Pink
Thanks, Jill! He’s definitely walking better! It is very exhausting being the caregiver.
Sending prayers Nigel’s way for quick healing. XO

Thanks so much, Kathrine! Prayers are welcome!
Hi, Marsha – I’m so happy to hear that Nigel has been walking better than before already! So maybe it was this second hip that couldn’t take the brunt of his weight after his first surgery and that could have been what was keeping him down(??) I’m sending blessings for his return to perfect health and his ability to walk restored. Wishing the best for both of you. Take care – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com
Thank you, Angie! I do think the second hip was definitely the culprit in his poor walking. He is definitely making progress. Thank you so much for the blessings. They are deeply appreciated.
So happy to read that Nigel is already progressing and that you are seeing positive changes! I’m sure the trip back to the hospital wasn’t much fun, though, and I hope Nurse Marsha is taking care of herself in the midst of it all! I also remember watching “The Six Wives of Henry the Eighth” and it was a bit overwhelming, especially that Anne Boleyn episode! Hope you have a great weekend and that the recovery continues upward!
Thank you, Laura! I’m trying to grab sleep when I can. Oh, another Tudor fan! I am going to have to go looking for that series. I’m sure it’s somewhere!
