Trying a Cute Title: Green with Envy?

Trying a cute title…

Laura, at I Do deClaire, always has cute titles for her blog posts. I have to admit she catches my attention which makes me click right through to read her post! Part of that is I have to figure out what her title has to do with the post! If you’re reading this, Laura, “Fabulous job!” So, I thought I’d try a cute little title because, well, otherwise, I got nuthin! (Honestly, I’m messing with the SEO score, too!)

Cute title…cute toes!

The weather…

Everyone has been talking about the weather so I’ll add my two cents. The weather here in Central Indiana (right outside Indianapolis, in fact) has been so beastly warm and humid. Nigel and I were talking about how we don’t remember days in the 90s when we were kids. The last couple of days have been much cooler but still so humid. I don’t know about you, my friends, but I’m a firm believer in global warming. I try to do my part to recycle and reuse. I even have metal straws (which are not as easy to drink from as you’d think). We have had several nice showers so the grass around us has really been showing signs of perking up. Poor grass…Mother Nature plays with it just as cruelly as she does with the rest of us! That grass will soon be brown and crunchy again!

A short and sweet one…

Since I have nothing educational, no theme to dictate the post, and certainly no words of wisdom, I’ll just tell you about this cute dress I recently bought. I know, I know…here I was just talking about global warming, and I’m buying clothes! I recently took several bags of clothing to a couple of consignment stores near us. Would you believe they took the stuff from WalMart and Old Navy and turned away stuff from Banana Republic and Talbots? That really surprised me as both places marketed themselves as upscale! Hmmm… So, I’m trying to find a better place to donate/sell clothing. But, I digress…

The dress…

Green is not my go-to color when it comes to shopping. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find much green in my closet at all (well, when my closet has clothes in it). I’m honestly not sure why that is. If you visited me in the next month (the countdown is on), you’d see most of the downstairs is painted a shade of green! I have a thing for J Jill dresses, though! They usually include pockets, have great details, and are a decent price. This dress is no exception! My only complaint is the head opening is really small…like rip your ears off small! Unfortunately, there isn’t a clasp. It’s a straight over your head style. But, it does have pockets as well as that slimming contrast band down the side of the dress. I can’t remember if I was wearing a special bra that day or not. So, I can’t address if a regular bra’s straps would show. I am wearing a petite medium in this dress. Many times, I will wear a regular small, but I definitely needed a petite in this one. It’s the perfect transition dress, too! Add a jacket and some booties, and you’ve got a fall look!

The Lewk!

Why mess with a good thing, right? I was pleasantly surprised that my earrings (from an Etsy shop) and multi-strand beaded bracelet (from Newfields Museum shop) matched so well. I added my Sarah Flint Mirjana Wedges, and an outfit was born! I really like the way the greens and browns go so well together.

I don’t think I did this dress justice! It really is a pretty dress and oh so comfortable! Honestly, I will wear this for years to come! So, can we talk? How is the weather in your neck of the woods? Has it cooled off, been humid, or been absolutely delightful? Any suggestions for how to fix that neck hole? Leave me a comment or two, and we can talk! I love hearing from you and promise to respond as quickly as possible! Look for me tomorrow for Final Fridays: Print Mixing!

Thank you!

  1. It’s a lovely dress, I like green a lot, just like Miss Piggy by the way….. And pockets, yeah!

    • I thought you liked green a lot, Nancy! I like it on other things, I guess, just not my body! Pockets are fabulous things, right? I’m so glad we don’t have to wear them like they did 100s of years ago! Though that could be quite the cool fashion statement, right?

  2. What a lovely new dress! I tend to have mostly greens and blues in my closet but I have been adding in quite a few pinks this year too. Our weather has been pretty warm/hot but I haven’t minded it. I do wish it would rain though; our poor plants and grass and even our rivers/ streams really need it.

    • Thanks, Joanne! Pinks I have…I need to work on green! We have gotten a bit of rain…nothing like St. Louis…and the yards around us have perked up. I didn’t plant a single thing this year so I haven’t had to worry about watering. I can’t wait for next year because I’m going full force on the plantings!

  3. This is such a cute green dress on you, and so perfect for summer! I don’t have a lot of green in my wardrobe either, it’s a colour I used to find tricky to wear, but I have been trying to wear more of it recently! 🙂 I’ve added a few cute green pieces to my wardrobe over the years – I find olive easiest to style!

Hope you are having a lovely week 🙂

    • Thanks, Mica! I do really like olive and have lots of that in my closet, but I just don’t tend to buy this particular color of green! Isn’t that weird!

I hope your weekend is fun and full of adventures!

  4. I think you definitely need more green in your closet because this is fabulous on you Marsha.
The neck hole?? I’m thinking you need to cut it in the back and do something. I mean, heck, with your hair no one with notice anyways. But you can easily add elastic, or just cut a slit and add a button at the top.

    • Thanks, Jodie! I was surprised at how much I liked this dress. I mean, I really like the color green, but I have never really liked it on me! I’m going to look closely at the neckline to see if I can cut it and put an elastic band with a button there.

  5. I don’t have much green in my closet either. That dress is darling on you! Love the print!

  6. You look great in green! (Now, there’s a title: “Great in Green”) Love the dress, especially the darker green inset pieces on the sides. Also — attractive accessories to complement the dress! The entire outfit is a real winner for you. And, about the weather — well, . . . We’re always super hot and humid here in Savannah from late June through September. But this year, many locations in northern states have been even hotter than we are — a change from previous summers. We all feel like we’re melting!

    • Thanks so much, Carol! I was so very pleasantly surprised at how close the greens matched! That never happens, right? We are having a rather cool couple of days (cool as in low 80s and relatively low humidity). I really hope to get back to Savannah again. It’s such a gorgeous city. And, yes to the melting!

  7. Aw! Thanks so much for the shout out! Although you have nothing to be envious of in this gorgeous dress! I’m envious of you! You look beautiful Marsha!

  8. I love your dress! Green is great color on you. I don’t have much green in my closet, but that’s because green has been a hard color to find. But I just ordered some preloved clothing from Thredup – 3 dresses, all green. And a pair of green leggings too. LOL! I’m not sure what is normal for Asheville exactly, but the temperatures are so mild compared to Las Vegas, I have no complaints. Mostly in the 80’s, a couple of days in the low 90’s, and very humid. I think we went a week to 10 days without rain in June, but now it’s raining nearly every day. Just some showers in the afternoon. The plants love it – including the weeds. I’m so far behind on weeding.

    • I bet it’s almost a shock compared to Las Vegas! I love that area…Asheville, I mean. I think you’re so lucky to live there! I haven’t planted a thing, and it’s bugging me like crazy! I love to grow things! Hopefully next year! I can’t wait to see those green dresses. I think it’s a hard color, too. I’m not sure why that is, but I do!

  9. This is really a cute dress: I really like the band from the neck to the hem. I love this shade of green. I don’t have much green either, a tank and a skirt, I think but I do like the color! Maybe there is not much green out there? Funny though, Claire is sharing a green skirt today!

    • Isn’t that interesting? You are not the first person to say they don’t have much green either. I think maybe it’s one of those colors that people shy away from? I thought that band on the side really helped to lengthen the look, too! Thanks, Mireille!
