A dress…
You know what is so funny about how many dresses I buy and wear? I was a complete tomboy when I was a kid. I remember complaining to my mom when she told me I was too old to go about without a shirt. I had no idea things were going to change! My knees were always skinned up. The tops of my big toes were always scuffed and bloody because I refused to wear shoes when I rode my bike. I could easily run across our gravel driveway barefooted. I probably had one or two dresses at a time…one for picture day at school and one for Easter.
A dress…
I certainly didn’t wear dresses to high school. I was in high school during the 70s and denim reigned supreme! I don’t know if this would have held true in other areas of the country or world, but we also wore lots of seersucker bell bottoms as well as cuffed bell bottoms! There were some maxi skirts, but, for the most part, I just missed the whole hippie experience during high school.
A dress…
It wasn’t until I started teaching that I began to wear dresses on a regular basis. I think it was because I liked to sit on the floor with my students. A dress with a full skirt or even a skirt itself allowed me to sit criss-cross/applesauce on the floor and not worry about being indecent! Add in my love for all things April Cornell, and you might begin to understand why dresses feature so prominently in my posts.
This dress…
I decided to add some teal/turquoise to my closet. Once upon a time, my entire closet was shades of teal. I changed that to the point where I had very little. This Panama Breeze dress is a beautiful addition. Some of you may remember I don’t like vee neck tops, but I do prefer vee neck dresses. I think I would have liked this dress in a vee neck better. I think that neckline doesn’t emphasize the girls as much, and goodness knows they need no emphasis! Thank goodness, the flower placement is good! This dress is rayon with a crinkle texture. I had to be careful when I was pressing it that I didn’t press out all the texture! And, my friends, it has pockets! I think I may hem it, though. I have plenty of longer dresses, and I think this might look nice as a shorter dress.
A promise…
I promise I will have April’s 10 on the 10th done tonight or tomorrow. Remember, you don’t have to have a blog to play along!
A list…
I have been remiss in participating in Kym’s 26 Lists. This week is a good one considering Easter has just come and gone. This week’s prompt is “Sweet Treats.” I have a mouthful of sweet teeth, I swear! I am trying to quit sugar, but it’s hard given how it’s so sneakily added to food. But, here we go with my list of “Sweet Treats.”
- Reeses Peanut Butter Eggs, Christmas Trees, any shape – have you noticed how much better these holiday Reeses are? I have a theory. It’s because they don’t have the pleated edges. You know how you lose so much of the chocolate and some of the peanut butter? You don’t have that problem with the holiday Reeses because they’re completely covered!
- Jelly beans – I love jelly beans, but I don’t eat them very often. I only like the orange and yellow ones. And, that leads us to the next item.
- Jelly orange slices – Oh, my gosh! These are just so good! Pure sugar and absolutely rotten for me, but I love them. I haven’t bought any in years but see them at Menards all the time.
- Cheesecake – I don’t know if this is a truly sweet treat or not, but I love cheesecake. I’m a purist, though. I only want the cheesecake (with the crust, of course). I don’t want any toppings unless it’s whipped cream. I do like Key Lime cheesecake, but you can keep the strawberry, cherry, or even blueberry cheesecake!
- Pancakes with real maple syrup – Nigel had some dental work done last week so he suggested pancakes for dinner. My favorite place to have pancakes is Cracker Barrel. I don’t know what it is about their pancakes, but they have those wonderfully crunchy edges and warm real maple syrup.
The Lewk!
Here’s a case of not matching and just going when it comes to shoes. These are the Aubrey T-Strap by Cobb Hill/Rockport. I have them in a cognac color, too. I have to think these shoes are well over a decade old. I’m positive I wore them when I was teaching. They are very comfortable with good arch support. The necklace, by John Hardy, was a Christmas gift from Nigel this past year. The earrings (similar) were also a gift from Nigel a few years ago. I don’t have a bracelet to match…yet! As a rule, I don’t have to have matching jewelry. But, sometimes, there are pieces you just need the matching pieces, right?

I think I have mentioned this before, but, one year, a group of my girls kept track of the number of days per week I wore a dress or skirt. They didn’t tell me about it until the year was almost over, or I would have made it into a math lesson! Wouldn’t that have worked perfectly for graphing? Or, I could have made it into a lesson on predictions or hypotheses! As far as I know, they were the only ones to ever do that! So, can we talk? Four out of five of your sweet treats are also mine. LOL. I love Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs, they are truly the best. And now Wyatt loves them too. I have to admit, sometimes I go into the other room to eat one where he can’t see… The only thing on your list that I am not a fan of is cheesecake. But jelly orange slices are probably one of my favorite candies to eat!
Oh, my goodness! I love the peanut butter eggs or Christmas trees because they’re just so much easier to eat than the peanut butter cups! Oh, those orange slices…they’re like potato chips! You can’t eat just one!

I am the same with dresses.
I think I didn’t want to wear them because my mom wanted me to wear them. Talk about being a rebel right?
Anyway in our summers they are just one of the best things to wear. And they’re easy.
I’m always surprised that other people don’t wear them around here as much!

I don’t know if it was that I didn’t want to wear them as much as I didn’t have that many. But, I was definitely a tomboy as well as a rebel! I’m surprised people wouldn’t wear them out there, too. They would have to be so much cooler!

I wore dresses and skirts all the time as a kid and now I rarely wear them at all. I did buy a few skirts for spring so hopefully I’ll get some use out of them. I love the colors of this dress!

Thanks, Jill! I am pretty sure I wore very few, if any, dresses in high school. But, that was in the late 70s when girls were just beginning to be able to wear jeans and pants to school. I’m glad we have a little more freedom these days.
Yes we do use the use tomboy in the UK! I would never have thought you to be one though lol! How things can change, eh?! I think that dress looks gorgeous, I love the colour and think it goes rather well with your shoes! I have lots of dresses in my wardrobe but I rarely wear them. I guess you could say I dress more like a tomboy these days lol!!

The color of this is dress is gorgeous, and your comment on flower placement made me laugh; sometimes the print of the fabric is very inappropriately placed! I am with you on holiday Reese’s, cheesecake, and pancakes with maple syrup…mmmm.
Thanks, Sally! There have been so many times I’ve not bought something because of the placement of a print, usually a flower. Ah, a fellow sweet tooth fan of the holiday Reeses! They’re just so much better. I wish they’d have a plain circular one during non-holiday times!
Marsha, this dress is absolutely brilliant! What a beautiful color on you and I adore the large scale floral print. I was also a tomboy as a young child and hated dresses so it always makes me laugh how much I love to wear dresses now. My mother used to dress me in the prettiest little frocks and when I was in kindergarten, a boy in my class was always trying to look up my dress/skirt at lunch so I stopped wearing dresses until my later teen years. Isn’t it sad that one little 5 year old ruined my love for dresses for over a decade? But now dresses dominate my wardrobe and I have taught my children to not be such little a-holes as that kid in my class! LOL

Thanks, Shelbee! I had to wear dresses until sixth grade as that was the rule for girls back then. But, I didn’t really like it! It is funny how one little thing can create these mindsets for us. I am sure your boys know how to treat all people with kindness and respect. Dresses are just so easy and fun, right?

The color is gorgeous! Now that I have dresses and skirts that I enjoy wearing I wear them a lot more. I think it took me a while to figure out my style and the ones that just drew me. They are great in summer when you don’t want your car seat to stick to you!

Thanks, Mireille! I love to wear dresses in summer especially. They’re just so easy…one and done! We don’t have leather seats, so I don’t have to worry about the seat sticking to me. My next car definitely will along with seat heaters!
