In April, Michelle (Funky Fashion Style) began a new fashion challenge. Michelle felt she needed something to push her to do some print mixing. And, so the Final Friday challenge was born! This means the last Friday of the month would be dedicated to a print mixing challenge. Luckily, she asked me to co-host with her! A few months ago, Michelle needed to step back from blogging for a bit. I continued the challenge, but I am considering changing the theme to something else. If you have a suggestion, let me know! Since it’s the last Final Friday of the year, I decided to share a skosh of each month’s looks! I do hope you enjoy it! And, there’s a link party! So, link up your favorite posts of the year, the month, or the day!
April’s look…
I didn’t reinvent the wheel with this look! I combined stripes with a duster featuring paisley and stripes! If you’d like to revisit the post, you can find it here. This duster has been teetering on the edge of purging because it’s a little subdued for my taste. But, seeing it here, I remember why I like it! This look works because there are stripes in both pieces as well as the neutral grey stripes on the dress.
May…
Oh, I really liked May’s look for a couple of reasons. It combines some of my favorite things…a lemon print, stripes, and a tiered skirt! I also really like blue and yellow together. You can read more here. Again, this works because the stripes work as a neutral, and the shirt has touches of blue picked up from the skirt.
June…
Oh, this is one of my favorites! I love grey…there, I said it! I find it to be such a soothing color and functions so well with both my coloring and what I’m wearing! You can see the whole post here. I realize this look also has stripes! But, that’s the beauty of stripes…they go with everything! If you want to get technical, I’m also wearing a floral print on my shoes! Here is an example of why holding onto things is a good idea! This cardigan is probably over a decade old. The dress is from a couple of summers ago. They are from different retailers, but that wonderful mediator, grey, brings both pieces together in a harmonious look!
July…
This is probably one of my least favorite looks of any on the blog (here). I thought it would be interesting to use the same print in different colors. I also used my oh-so-adaptable striped tank to tie the two together. I think the reason the look doesn’t work for me is because there is such a stark difference between the two background colors. It’s not a bad look, but it just isn’t going to win any awards from me! It does work as a print mixing look because the colors are cohesive.
August…
Now, if July was one of my least favorite looks, August is one of my favorites! In this post, I accidentally put together these two pieces to create a really fabulous look! My top was from Johnny Was, and I could never get it to work right as a pullover top. I decided to just cut it down the front and make a short kimono. It worked like a dream! This outfit could very well have been too busy with the two prints. Neither of them is subtle, but because the colors, both background and print, are so similar, the whole outfit just shines!
September…
Oh, this was a fun outfit (here)! I decided to try two completely random prints and see how they played together! It was also the first Final Friday at our new house! This beautiful Kantha Bae button down goes so well with the Johnny Was tee that many didn’t even realize there were two separate pieces! This is also an example of wearing a color that is not necessarily the best for your coloring. By wearing another piece or print close to the face, you can get away with it!
October…
Oh, this is another combination I really like! In the post, you can read how much difficulty I had with both pieces. I’d never worn them together before, but it was almost like they were made to wear together! Coincidentally, both are from Garnet Hill! The reason the look works is the colors. While they aren’t the exact same colors, they work well together. The plum tank ties the look together, quite well if I do say so myself!
November…
Well, apparently, I skipped November! Oh, wait! I remember now! It was Black Friday. Trust me, you didn’t want to see what I looked like on Black Friday! It was not pretty! Here are a few random outfits that weren’t featured on Final Friday, but they include print mixing!
Wrap it up, Marsha!
Nigel thought I was sitting here admiring myself as I went searching through my archives! And, that made me stop and think. I hated having my picture taken…all because of a comment I overheard a relative make about my smile! I’ve gotten over that…now I just need to go out and take more photos in public! So, can we talk? What is your go-to when it comes to mixing patterns or matching prints? Do you embrace it wholeheartedly, or are you drug, kicking and screaming into that particular lane? Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk! I promise to respond as soon as possible!

You have a beautiful smile.
Thanks so much!
I always love to see your print mixing in action. I still have to work on it, but I’m getting better at it and find it a fun challenge. In fact, I’m wearing 2 prints today, and you can see it in my IG stories.

Thanks, Jodie! It’s just such a fun way to dress, right? I’ll pop on to Instagram in a bit and check it out!
I think May’s is my favorite; that bright yellow lemon with the deep blue skirt– those colors just pop and scream “nice weather!” to me.
Thanks, Joanne! I do love that color combination! Would you believe it’s 55 here and raining! Crazy!
Well, you know I love print mixing and the wilder the combination, the better, in my opinion! I love all of your print mixed looks. So fun! Also, so what if you were admiring yourself?! Aren’t we supposed to do that sometimes? It’s good a habit to get into, I think, acknowledging the things we like about ourselves. It’s good for us! Wishing you a safe, happy, and healthy new year, my friend!
Shelbee
Thanks so much, Shelbee! I need to step it up, though! I just love playing with my clothes! Yes, indeed! We should always admire ourselves whether it’s in the mirror, on our phones, or on the back of a spoon!!! You are so very wise to have already figured that out! I hope 2023 brings you nothing but happiness, health, and all good things!
So many pretty outfits! I really like September’s look.
Thanks so much, Erin! September was lots of fun…and really comfortable!

This is such a fun challenge! I think my favorite is your May outfit. I just love lemon print in anyway. Pairing it with blue makes it even better!
