Number #15
It seems like I was just writing up my monthly recap! Is it just me, or did it seem like March flew by and, yet, it lasted forever? I have no idea why I feel that way, but it just seems like it’s been March for so much longer than it should have been. I’m looking forward to April and May just because the weather is usually halfway nice. You get into June, and it’s iffy! If you’re new to the blog, this is my monthly recap with a few opinions thrown in. Those opinions are the “for what it’s worth” part of this! I’m also throwing a link party so please link up your favorite posts. Don’t have a blog? Don’t worry! You might find a new blog or two!
What I’ve been reading…
And, I thought last month was bad! I have finished exactly three books this month. I am currently reading another and abandoned several others, but I will keep the one I’m reading for next month. Such Good Friends is a highly fictionalized rendition of the relationship between Lee Radziwill and Truman Capote. Now, if you’ve watched “Feud,” you’ll see Lee didn’t have that big a part in it. This book would have you believe otherwise. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. One Summer In Savannah was a slow start for me, and I knew how it would end, but I still really liked it. TW: mention of SA occurs in this book, but it’s in the past and doesn’t occur during the book itself. It’s still an integral part of the book. Pineapple Street is one of those I’m still processing. I think I liked it, but did I like it because I disliked the characters so much. It’s about poor little rich multi-millionaires who just can’t seem to make sense or purpose of their lives. I kept waiting for the redeeming factor, and I don’t think I was deep enough (as in I’m not deep) to find it! So, yep! I spent an entire month reading three books I really didn’t care that much about!
What I’ve been watching…
Well, I tell you what! We have been all over when it comes to television! We began the month by finishing “Griselda,” the story of a drug lord (lady?) played by Sofia Vergara…she is definitely not Gloria Pritchett in this series. I was saddened, though, by the end of it. Griselda Blanco was a real person with a pretty horrific story. Then, we moved on to a weird as hell (sorry, but it was) show called “The Tourist.” I’m still not 100% sure what I watched. It is just in a genre of its own, I think. Did I like it? Nope. I liked the female deputy constable and her sweet trusting nature, but that was about it. Now, I’m going to preface this with I really like Noel Fielding. I think he’s hilarious especially when he’s the only one who thinks he’s hilarious. In case you don’t know who he is, he was on the Mighty Boosh, is some kind of comedian, and is a presenter on the British Bake Off. Now, he’s got this Monty Python-esque show called, of all things, “The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.” I think it’s hilariously stupid. Nigel just puts up with it…that’s all I can say.
A little more…
The Truth About Jim was chilling for me as a former teacher and parent of high school kids. At first, it appeared Jim was that high school teacher all the kids like. Then, things quickly turned dark. The main people in the documentary are his step-granddaughter, her mother, and her grandmother who was married to Jim at one time. After it was over, I asked Nigel, “Why, exactly, was that made?” My point wasn’t that crimes of this sort shouldn’t be ferreted out; it was more why this particular story. Watch it; let me know what you think. We started to watch “The Regime,” but it seemed so overacted and couldn’t seem to decide if it was a comedy, a satire, or a drama. Even though I love Kate Winslet, I just had to say, “Nope.” So, surprise! We moved to another Kate Winslet limited series that popped up on MAX. I didn’t ever read the book, Mildred Pierce, nor did I watch the 1945 film. I am tempted to do so because, while there was lots of soulful sighing, multitudes of tears, and this stilted speech common to the 40s, I just didn’t get this show. I could google it, but I kinda want to watch the old movie or read the book first. Kate is gorgeous, Evan Rachel Wood is, too. Lots of nudity for I’m not sure why…gosh, I feel like a little old lady prude saying that. I honestly don’t mind nudity (though I have a problem with women being shown full on naked and men only showing cheeks), but it has to have a reason.
What I’ve been working on…
I finished my presentation and booklet for our women’s mini-retreat at church. It went well, and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. Maybe the desire to get the thing finalized and done is what made me feel like this month lasted for a very long time! Now, I have a few months before the fall retreat. I need to get started on next Spring’s theme. We did auction off my scrapghan for around $55 so that’s a win! I also joined Ancestry.com though I don’t know if I’ll keep it up. It’s a bit frustrating at times, and the initial join is now only two weeks instead of one month. We also know surnames were changed for one reason or another. So, as of this point, I don’t know if I’m related to President Polk, or not (more here).
A little more…
I also finished a sort of scraphghan in that I had the yarn, but it wasn’t left over yarn. This one is for my very favorite youngest granddaughter, O! She is a hoot and a half and ornery as the day is long, but, gosh do I love her! Purple is her favorite color, so I hope she likes this one. And, of course, to put off finishing anything really and truly important, I started a scarf. This is an easy no-brainer knit. You knit one row garter stitch, snip off the end, start a new yarn, knit back the other way in garter stitch, continuing it that way until you’ve got it as wide as you’d like. I never know what these will turn out like because I pick the colors in random order. I have to use a circular needle which isn’t really my favorite. But, since it’s got over 250 stitches, I had to use one.
The last…
We haven’t done much outside. Our daffodils didn’t come up at all this year; the hyacinths are spindly. I wonder if the winter was just too warm for them. Our creeping phlox is beginning to flower, and everything else seems to have made it through the winter. I’m now debating on what I want to do on the hump! I had an idea, then I realized I would be forever replanting these flowers. Now, I’m leaning toward things like yarrow, columbine, and poppies. But, I would love either of the photos before on my hump! Any volunteers?
What I’ve been buying…
OK, I have just plain given up on the spreadsheet! I didn’t buy much this month with actual money. I used rewards to buy a couple of dresses, a couple of graphic tees, and some tees for Nigel at Old Navy. I spent pennies on each. I also splurged on another pair of boots. I bought several printed cardigans that I will wear for years. And, I bought another Rhiannon kimono during a clearance sale at Kantha Bae. I’m going to try to alter it before it appears on the blog. So, yep, I shopped this month!
Where I’m going…
You guys!!!! I’m going to Ireland and Scotland in August! I am going to be gone so long that I didn’t end up extending my time for a short trip to London. But, I’m seriously contemplating going by myself. Give me all the tips for where to stay as a single lady in London! My passport arrived as did Nigel’s. That means we can go to Canada for little trips!
What I’ve been wearing…
Wrap it up, Marsha!
I’ll admit I procrastinated writing this post to the point that it’s now way past when I’m usually done with one! I had most of the bits and pieces done. I just had little bits to pop in here and there. But, did I do it? I’ll let you guess! So, can we talk? How was your March? Did it go at warp speed, or pour like cold molasses on an ice cube? Do you have big plans for the month of April? Did you watch any of these weird shows Nigel and I seem to watch? And, tell me what I watched if you watched “The Tourist,” please! Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk! I promise I do respond…if I’m not busy procrastinating!
Thank you!

Oh I want to watch that Dick Turpin kind a thing, lol. I like him in The British Bake off. Enjoy your Easter weekend.
You will love the Dick Turpin show, Nancy! He’s just such a goof, but you can’t help but hope everything comes out ok for him!
Thanks, Nancy!
So exciting about your trip Marsha! I’ve just booked to fly to the UK in September to see my daughter and granddaughter and I love the anticipation of a trip! Yes i watched The Tourist series 1 and have just started series 2, it’s certainly a bit different but I enjoyed it. Yes Helen is a sweetheart isn’t she? Enjoy Easter 🙂
Oh, I’m so happy for you, Debbie! How wonderful to spend even more time with the glorious Dottie! Helen is sweet, and the actor portraying her is so good. I hope your Easter was full of good things!
Your new trip sounds so exciting! Yay! Can’t wait to hear about it. All of these looks are phenomenal. I see you getting more daring in your styling and I love it!

Thank you, Kathrine! I’m beginning to think in terms of what I definitely need to take along but it’s still over 135 days away!
Marsha, I am so excited for you and your upcoming travel adventures! I have no input to offer on Scotland and Ireland other than have the best time of your life!
Shelbee
Thanks, Shelbee! I am looking forward to this so much! I had hoped to visit London, too, but it’s going to be a really long time away from home as it is!
I agree it seems like an extra long month. I left a link at #8, it’s one of my older posts about a book I enjoyed reading and I used several of my own photos in, rather than stock photos. I hope everyone enjoys it.
I’m so glad you link up, Aletha! Your posts are always good! It was just a strange month, wasn’t it?
I have not watched or even heard of any of these shows! We spent the last few weeks binging Silicon Valley on HBO Max and it’s so entertaining and yet definitely a little bit weird as well. It sounds like you will have an exciting summer with some great travels! I have no advice for you since I’ve never been there but I look forward to hearing all about it.
Thanks, Joanne! I hope it all goes well. I’m already thinking in terms of a travel capsule because we’ll be gone for several days. We tend to binge watch shows rather than watch them on a weekly basis. I think we are spoiled by technology, right?
I had not heard of the Dick Turpin show and couldn’t immediately place the actor – but eventually I realized he had a role as the goth guy on The IT Crowd. My March has absolutely sped by; I feel like I need the entire month of April to be the second half of March!
I hadn’t heard of him before the British baking show, but now I’m a fan. He’s just such a nerdy comic kinda guy. March was just weird for me. I had all these deadlines, and then they were met. Now, it seems like I have extra time on my hands, but that just means I’m not planning ahead!
Thanks, Sally!
That trip is going to be amazing!!
I always love to travel but then I also love to come home!! I think I’m a traveler in a homebody’s body!
But wait, what do you mean you don’t like your circular needles?
That’s all I use nowadays!!
We need to talk!
Xoox
Jodie
Oh, I’m going to steal that because that’s me exactly! I’m definitely a traveler in a homebody’s body. I am usually ready to be home after 3-4 days. I’m hoping I’m not a whiny brat the last several days!
I just like straight needles best. I think it’s the ability to lay the piece flat and see it that appeals to me more.
Thanks, Jodie!
My goodness you have been busy! I’m interested in that book about Truman Capote – I have been watching shows about him on Hulu – so interesting! I’d like to watch The Tourist. Right now we are in the middle of Lessons in Chemistry on Apple – I love it!!
Thanks for the link up Marsha, I hope you have a good Easter!
xo,
Kellyann
You know, we started Lessons in Chemistry and then got busy watching something else. I’ve read the book, but I still want to watch the series. I just find Truman Capote so fascinating. Did you know he was great friends with Harper Lee? I’m on a waitlist for the book the Feud show is based upon.
Have a wonderful week, Kellyann!
I’m going to be following along on your trip because we want to go back and include Ireland but there is so much to see in Scotland. We only made it to Glasgow (and were worn out and didn’t see much there) and Edinburgh. We were limited by the holiday and the short days. August will be great because it will be light out for so long. We would have taken the train as far north as possible to see more of the countryside and not just the city. My friends are going in October so I’m also interested in where they end up. I think you are going with a friend? If you have the stamina to go to London do it but I don’t have any recs. The train from Edinburgh would be about 6 hours maybe? I know you can also get cheap flights most likely? I decided that at about day 8 I weary of travel and want to be home, but maybe that was just being exhausted from the school year and worried and missing my dog with cancer? But, day 8 was when it hit me in Germany the last time we went.
Please share your itinerary or your plans!
Thanks, Amy! I know my way around London very well. We have actually booked with a tour company as we were overwhelmed by the sheer number of places we want to go as well as getting around. Neither of us wanted to drive so that left a tour company. I am usually ready to go home by day 3 or 4 so this will be an experience as it’s going to be close to three weeks, counting travel days. I am thinking of going to London by myself if I can’t convince anyone to go with me. As it gets closer, I will share the itinerary, but we are landing in Dublin and leaving out of either Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Congrats on getting the chance to go to Ireland! So many cool things going on for you and so much information in this one. Love it!
Thanks, Lisa. It’s probably not the first place on my bucket list, but it was on my friend’s. I’m truly thinking about going to London by myself because Mike just won’t go. That’s a scary thought, but my traveling days are not behind me even if he thinks his are.
What a great month, Marsha! I like the sound of Pineapple Street. I recently read When We Were Friends which I greatly enjoyed as well as The Story Teller by the Sea which was wonderful. As always you look stylish and wasn’t the family history prompt fascinating. I’m so happy you have your trip to England and Scotland planned. August will be here before we know it! Have a lovely weekend my friend. x
Pineapple Street was a good one. The Story Teller by the Sea sounds interesting as does When We Were Friends. I loved that family history prompt. I think everyone had such good posts about it. I’m looking forward to my trip though it will be strange going without Mike.
Thanks, my friend!
