Gallery of Style: “Maude Adams as Joan of Arc”

“Maude Adams as Joan of Arc” by Alphonse Mucha

Well, I have moved on from the Impressionists! But, somehow or other, I selected another painting of an actress. What are the chances? I hope you enjoy all the different interpretations in our Gallery of Style! If you’d like to read more about why I selected this piece of art, you can find that here. To read more about the art, the artist, and my outfit, you can find that here! But, you’ve come to see not me, but the others who have joined in on the styling for Mucha’s “Maude Adams as Joan of Arc,” right?

Gallery of style…

First up is my friend from St. Paul…Sally. I encourage you to visit Sally’s blog. She always has a little extra thrown in…make sure you read the entire post. You’ll see what I mean! Sally says, “I was inspired by the color scheme and delicate flower details of this artwork to wear a favorite blush pink rabbits & flowers sweater and matching pink vest with beige pants + boots, accessorized with flower (and rabbit, haha) motifs.  Although this outfit is nothing like the floaty feminine ensemble Joan is wearing, I am pleased that it shares an overall soft and light vibe.  It’s also a lot more practical for late January in Minnesota!”

Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey and one of our curators has such unique jewelry. She usually uses a brooch or two. She says, “This is one of the rare cases when I wish it had been warmer, because I have a spring dress that works great with the colors of the painting, but it’s too cold now to wear it. So I had to make do with my William Morris waistcoat and added my light green blazer as a nod to the lighter colors in the painting. The cutouts on my shirt mimic the blossoms in the foreground, and my brooch is both a nod to the Art Nouveau style and the lilies around the border of the painting (irises are close enough to lilies, right?) I’m not 100% happy with how the outfit turned out, but at least each element matched the painting quite well.”

Next is Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge. Here’s what she says, “This was a little difficult because it is winter and a very snowy one at that. But I think I pulled it off. I created an outfit in pinks and whites because these were the closest colors in my closet to the colors in the artwork. I focused more on the overall feeling of the painting with a variety of flowing fabrics and layers. I chose a scarf with floral embroidery to represent the flowers since there are no flowers to be found in this arctic place right now.”

I promise you I did not pick this piece of art with this dress in mind. That has crossed my mind a couple of times; I will admit. But, as I looked at Maude and her surroundings, I was drawn to the pastels as well as the florals. Then, I knew the print I wanted to wear. The reason I say print is that I have this print in two different styles! I was going to move this dress along, but I kinda like it now. And, I was really happy with the way it turned out.

And, that’s a wrap for this Gallery of Style!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Gallery of Style for Style Imitating Art…thank you to Sally, Salazar, and Shelbee for participating. I jokingly said I needed to change my name to something that started with S. Shelbee suggested Smarsha! Remember, you don’t have to have a blog to be a part of this style challenge. You can send a photo to the curator to be included in the gallery of style! We’d love to have more people join in! You can also still send me a photo, and I’ll edit the post to include you!

Coming up…

I hope you’ll come back next Monday to see the art work we’ll be styling and imitating! And, please visit all of the people who participated in this week’s challenge!

  2. That collage of you all looks so fabulous with all those soft tones.

    • Thanks, Joanne! I wish I could have made it bigger, but it did a good job showing how wonderfully everyone did on the challenge!

    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Thanks, Kellyann! I still am on the fence about keeping it. I’m trying to purge my closet and not having much luck! Maybe, I just need to quit shopping! Weren’t the others all wonderful?

  4. As challenging as this was for the winter season, I really do like all the light pastels for winter. Everyone did a wonderful job interpreting this very summery image into cold weather outfits. I am really happy that you decided to keep that dress because it is really adorable and looks amazing on you!

    • You know…I didn’t really think of this as a summery image, but it definitely gives those vibes! I loved everyone’s outfits, but yours stole the show for backdrop!

      Thanks, Shelbee!

  5. Wow, you ladies nailed it! How creative, artistic, and stylish. I’m impressed. Nice job.

    • I’m always surprised at how different they are! I think, this time, they were more similar than usual. Thanks, Jodie!
