Gallery of Style: “Wall Drawing No. 652”

I had no idea what Conceptual Art was, and I’m not sure I even do now. But, this was a piece of art I just had to use! I hope you enjoy all the different interpretations in our Gallery of Style! If you’d like to read more about why I selected this piece of art, you can find that here. To read more about the art, the artist, and my outfit, you can find that here! But, you’ve come to see not me, but the others who have joined in on the styling for Sol LeWitt’s “Wall Drawing No. 652.”

Gallery of style…

First up is Anne of Spy Girl who sent me this perfect photo! I mean how much better could it be? She calls it: “fun with Photoshop”. I have to admit it took me a minute to find her and then realize what she’d done! Anne is so clever!

Next is my friend from St. Paul…Sally. Sally was feeling a little under the weather, but she had already photographed this wonderful look. She calls it a pre-cog look! Sally says this, “I dislike this cheap Shein dress with its kind of terrible fabric but I do like the colorful print, which feels like a good fit with the artwork’s color palette.  I obviously didn’t quite get the memo since I used round swirl shapes instead of triangular shapes for my handmade accessories, but at least there is some kind of geometric vibe going on.  Maybe we can interpret the swirls as orbit/galaxy/space references as a pun on the name ‘Sol’?”

Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey and one of our curators has such unique jewelry. She usually uses a brooch or two. She says, “I paired my multi-color plaid shirt with my multi-color plaid blazer for maximum colorfulness! For the rest of the outfit, I kept it simple so the tops can really shine.” Her shirt is perfect for this art, isn’t it?

Next is Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge. Here’s what she says, “I picked up this amazing ruana on a thrifting adventure in the fall and haven’t had a chance to wear it yet. The print and colors are perfect for this wall art so I built a color blocked outfit using the same blue and orange that dominates the artwork. ”

I recently received a box of beautiful silk items from Daenel, and this one was just perfect for this challenge. It has all the colors (maybe not grey) and triangles in places. I really got lucky!

And, that’s a wrap for this Gallery of Style!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Gallery of Style for Style Imitating Art…thank you to Anne, Sally, Salazar, and Shelbee for participating. Remember, you don’t have to have a blog to be a part of this style challenge. You can send a photo to the curator to be included in the gallery of style! We’d love to have more people join in! You can also still send me a photo, and I’ll edit the post to include you!

Coming up…

I hope you’ll come back next Monday to see the art work we’ll be styling and imitating! And, please visit all of the people who participated in this week’s challenge!

  1. Wow, Anne almost blend in! I think you all found pieces that reflect the art work fabulously! Well done!

  2. What an exciting and creative collection of outfits. Great fun. Thank you.

    • Thank you, Mary! I loved how different everyone’s interpretation was and yet still fit the brief.

  3. Nice variations!
I also liked your post about the artist even if I probably didn’t understand half of it 😉

    • Thanks, Cat! I read and reread and reread the information and still wasn’t sure about it. But, the wall itself is really something!

  4. Oh I love all the outfits! How perfect is Anne’s coat? This was all so good!

  5. As I said on Instagram, I’m super tempted to take old outfit pix and virtually visit more Sols! In all my spare time, haha.
Really fun piece of art. There was a huge exhibition of his work at Mass MOCA back in 2009. I don’t think I saw it all…

    • Oh, I really think you should, Anne! That would be so much fun. Have you seen any of his 3-D art? I really struggled understanding it, and the photos I saw weren’t that good.

  6. This colorful geometric artwork inspired some great outfits! Anne’s diamonds and stripes duo is the most fun I’ve seen lately. Salazar’s checks and plaid print mix was a huge success. Shelbee’s soft blue outfit is a serene boho winter wonderland dream. Marsha’s colorful patchwork piece is amazing to behold and looks fab paired with white jeans.

    • Thanks, Sally! I couldn’t find Anne at first…she blended into the art so well! Everyone truly outdid themselves with this one!

  7. I saw anne’s post on instagram, and I thought she was actually in front of the artwork. What is cool concept.
I love all the colors that everyone used for this prompt
