Ghost Outfits Are Forever!

Ghost outfits…

I had to laugh when I saw this meme because I’m hoping to go in my sleep! So, my ghost outfit will be pretty sad, already tattered, and appropriate for a ghost, I guess! Perhaps, I need to up my nightwear game. Raise your hand if you thought this post was going to be sponsored by some kind of pajama company! Yep, I see you. But, let me assure you, I’m not sharing any pajamas or nightgowns.

We took these photos on our 48th wedding anniversary!

Ghost outfits in the past…

I wonder, if the woman in the portrait (I’m assuming here) was quite happy with that headdress or hat or whatever you call it. It could almost appear on “Bridgerton,” but I don’t think it’s quite elaborate enough. It needs some feathers or a big jewel in the middle, doesn’t it? I think about some of the portraits of my great-grandparents, and I wouldn’t want to wear anything like they did…so grim! The men were all in dark suits, and the women all wore white tops with dark skirts. The only thing I liked about the women’s tops which I think were called shirtwaists were the leg of mutton sleeves. And, absolutely no smiles…I always wondered why that was. I wonder if it was because they had to sit still for a bit while the camera did its things. Not smiling was probably easier than smiling for several seconds or minutes.

Down the rabbit hole…

Did you know you can google ghost outfits? I bypassed that AI business and found Quora which had bunches of answers. They were all over the place. I don’t know if there are experts on ghost outfits, but the answers ranged from wearing what the person died in to wearing what the person would want to be seen in. That seems about right to me. You rarely see ghosts on television or in movies wearing a nightgown. They’re usually dressed in some spooky garb. So, what would I want to be seen in if I were a ghost? Bet you can’t guess! Hahaha!!!

A possible ghost outfit…

I bought this Iris Dress a few weeks ago. It’s a true wrap dress so I knew I was taking a chance. Many people swear by wrap dresses. I’ve always had problems with the front layer not going quite far enough. That’s not the case with this dress. It has plenty of wrap layer! I decided to add a small macrame belt for no other reason than I wanted to do so! But, do I want to make this my ghost outfit? Hmmm…probably not. It’s pretty, but I really would want to wear something with a little more sparkle or oomph! But, while I’m still walking around, I’m going to enjoy wearing this dress a lot. I’ve even seen it worn as a duster, but that seems a little weird. I may try one of my slips under it just for a bit of fun.

The Lewk!

Yes, those are my tried and true Jambu sandals. I just seem to gravitate toward them whenever I’m wearing a certain kind of dress. As you can tell from my photos, it was windy and rainy. It was also extremely humid so I didn’t want to wear too much. I added my John Hardy bamboo jewelry (necklace, ring). My earrings are old enough to not have any links.

A ghost story maybe…

Have I told you my story about these earrings? If I have, feel free to skip ahead. When Nigel and I took a train trip to the Grand Canyon, I was wearing these. We were bundled up, and I had on a nice big scarf. We were on a guided tour and had stopped somewhere along the rim. I noticed, at that point, that one of my earrings was missing. Nigel and I, and eventually, our bus driver searched all over, but we couldn’t find it. I wasn’t all that upset because it was my own fault for not wearing those little plastic doohickeys that keep your wires from coming out of your ears. Anyhoo, we were back in our room where I searched again in case I’d lost it in there. At one point, I just said, “Mom, if you’re around, could you help me with these earrings?” Yes, I do things like that. Shortly after, I picked up my down jacket and noticed something hard in it. I had to really work hard to get into the place where this thing was. Believe it or not, it was my earring! Did my mom put my earring in my jacket? I don’t know, obviously, but that earring would have had to fall out of my ear and have that space open just right for it to end up there.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

I hope you all realized this post was a bit tongue in cheek. I just thought that meme was hilarious! I haven’t spoken very often about my religious beliefs, and I’m not going to do that now. But, I do believe in ghosts which may or may not agree with your religious beliefs. I haven’t ever been visited by one, but some strange things used to happen at our last house which was built right beside a cemetery. So, can we talk? Do you think your ghost outfit would be what you died Or, would it be what you wanted to be remembered in? Have you had any ghostly experiences? Do you believe in ghosts? Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as quickly as I can.

  1. I saw that meme too, Marsha and had a giggle. I love your floral dress and the colours are perfect for Spring. Will try to make 10 on the 10th but those questions look hard! LOL 🙂

    • Thanks, Sue! When I saw it, I knew I just had to work it into a blog post somehow! This dress is going to be a favorite, I can tell! Oh, don’t think too long about each question…just go with your first thought. That’s what I do!

  2. This is absolutely my favourite dress of you. It looks fabulous on you. The colours compliment you and I’m a huge fan of wrap dresses! Very beautiful!

    • Thank you sooooo much, Nancy! That means the world to me. I love the colors and the flowers and everything about it. And, now, I love it even more because Nancy says it looks fabulous on me!

  3. Congrats on 3 years. I can’t believe it’s been that long.
The dress is fabulous and I love the story about the earring. Gotta get all the help you can get, right?
    XOOX
    Jodie

    • Thanks, Jodie! I honestly can’t believe it, either! It truly was the strangest thing about that earring because the place where it was was like the inside of the pocket and inside the jacket. It had to really work to find its way in there. And, I swear I’d felt every inch of that jacket as we were looking. I talk to my mom all the time…sometimes, I get a whiff of her perfume in the bedroom. And, it is nothing like anything I ever wear.

  4. I think that no matter what you might ‘go’ out in, it will be stylish and colorful. I LOVE your love of color. And prints. And movement. Speaking of which, why the walker? Is it a new accessory? What have I missed?
Contemplating ghost outfits and being prepared for the very best of one is kind of like being sure to always wear pretty, and definitely clean panties in case you are in a wreck or have to be rushed to the ER for some reason. Ha!! Hate the thought of my prettiest panties being cut off me, though!!
Thanks for the chuckles. You are so clever and always bring a smile to my face.

    • Thanks, Leslie! I don’t know that I was as much into color when I was teaching…which is sad. I wore what everyone else wore, I guess! Now, I live for color even though I still like muted styles.

The walker is Mike’s. Until his hips are done, it’s a part of his gear! He is really struggling with not being active and with me having to do everything.

Hahaha!!! I don’t really have pretty undies! Maybe in a few months, but definitely not now! I’m so glad you enjoy my blog, my darling friend!

  5. I absolutely love that outfit but I have no idea what I would wear as my ghost outfit. Back to the outfit – that purple is so stunning on you! I love it! It really goes with your coloring

    • Thank you so much, Lisa! Purple is my favorite color so I have to keep myself from buying too much!

  6. Hmm, I’m not sure what I would wear for a ghost outfit, but I do love your pretty dress! It’s such a fabulous print! That’s crazy about your earring! I think your mom did put it there for you!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • Thanks, Jill! I should have added a paragraph about my grandma and her ghost outfit. Maybe, I’ll put that in this week’s Traffic Jam! It really was wild about my earring. I mean, we had searched everywhere. Both of us had mushed up that coat and went over it with a fine tooth comb. Then, all of a sudden, there was my earring!

  7. One of my friends sent that meme to me and told me to choose wisely because we have a list of people we need to haunt. LOL

That’s such a great dress — love that shade of violet/purple/lilac. It’s such a happy color.

    • Hahaha!!! I need to check with one of my friends and see if we have a list, too! I just thought the meme was hilarious and yet, what if it’s true?

I wasn’t sure if this dress would be as good IRL as it was online! I’m so glad to be able to say it’s even better!

      Thanks, Daenel!

  8. OMG, Marsha, Jeff and I both got a good laugh from this meme! Your dress is fabulous. Such a joyful color and print. And I really love the story of your lost earring. I definitely think it was your mom who helped you find it! I ask St. Anthony for help in finding lost things all the time and he has yet to fail me. My mother is also a very reliable spirit guide! You know when you know, you know?

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! As soon as I saw this meme, I knew I had to write a post about it! Isn’t it hilarious? There have been many times I’ve called on my mom. Sometimes, she helps. Sometimes, she lets me figure it out myself!

  9. Sometimes I think this very thing when I’m running a quick errand in sweaty gym clothes, what if this becomes my ghost outfit??? Ha!!
I don’t really know what I’d like my ghost outfit to be but it’s enough to make me want to wash my hair every single day!
This dress is so pretty Marsha. I love the colors and the wrap. I don’t own any wrap dresses at the moment, I usually have trouble keeping them closed. Your hair looks great too!

    Kellyann

    • Thank you, Kellyann! I am really struggling with my hair right now. It doesn’t look it on the blog as much, but it’s really become limp and lifeless. And, the color is way off. I love this dress and am so glad it was as pretty in person as it was online!

I had never heard of ghost outfits before this meme…I’m behind, I guess!

  10. You look gorgeous in this dress Marsha! The color and print is lovely and I adore the belt you added!

    https://www.kathrineeldridge.com

    • Thank you so much, Kathrine! I always consider your compliments extra special! I liked the way the belt broke up the print, too.

  11. I believe in ghosts too. Why not? It’s funny because my MIL very much believes, but my husband doesn’t! I have never thought about a ghost outfit. It’s kind of an interesting concept. I do like your wrap dress! I am a bit iffy on wrap dresses because some can be so clingy and show every lump and bump. I like that this flows out a bit more from the waist so you don’t have that issue.

    • Thanks, Laura! I have had a few wrap dresses and always found the front wrap just didn’t go far enough for my comfort. This one is about as perfect as can be…it even has pockets! I found that meme so funny I just had to write a post about it!

  12. This dress has a fantastic floral pattern! It is perfect for spring and summer, very feminine and delicate. I have a similar one, which is made of cashmere, and it works perfectly when worn.

    • Thank you so much! Oh, this is organic cotton and not cashmere. But, I’m sure that is just gorgeous!

  13. I have never thought of ghost outfits, and i now suspect that might be something a think about more than I should. I love the earring story! How great!

    • Thanks, Lydia! Hahaha!!! I don’t know if I will give it any more thought or not. I truly was surprised by the earring showing up because I’d searched and squished that coat all up. My husband did, too. And, then, after asking for Mom’s help, there it was!

  14. Ha! Ghost outfits. 😄 I would want mine to be both comfortable and groovy, funky, hippie. Maybe meet up with Janis Joplin.

Also? I love this dress. It looks amazing on you.

    Michelle
    https://www.michellesuzanneartworks.com/blog

    • Thanks, Michelle! Oh, yeah…meeting up with Janis Joplin would be cool…but I think she’d just ignore me. I keep wanting to crochet her iconic vest. I think it would be relatively easy though it may also be macrame. Those words, comfortable, groovy, funky, and hippie, are perfect!

  15. Also! Brat, I just had to check out your dress and now I’m drooling over the whole shop.

    • Hahaha!!! Wait a few weeks. There will be a big sale, but I don’t remember when it is as the company is in Sweden so I don’t think it’s Fourth of July! The discounts are huge! But, yes, there are so many goodies there!

  16. What a lovely color and print! I have 3 wrap dresses (2 maxis and 1 short one) and I like all 3! I usually don’t have any issues with them but I do like wearing a halftee with them most of the time!
    http://www.chezmireillefashiontravelmom.com

    • Thanks, Mireille! I don’t have any problem with them being too revealing up top. It has always been that the skirt didn’t go all the way over to the other side. I’m blaming it on the dress not on the body!
