How to Add Color to Your Life!

Nefarious title…

Honestly, I’m not going to tell you how to add color to your life! Seriously, the hardest part of writing a blog post is coming up with the title. And, this jumpsuit is definitely colorful! You may be one of those people who loves wearing all neutrals or all black. And, that is exactly what you should wear. You may be a person who loves all the colors of the rainbow and each one in between. You may also be a nudist and don’t worry so much about the colors you wear. I suppose you would probably wear lots of hats, though, and maybe that’s where you go all neutral, black, or colorful!

Colorful life…

For many years, I lived a life of black and white. Things were either this, or they were that. And, then, the black and white began to merge, and grey came into my life. I discovered many, many things were neither black nor white, but all of the different shades in between counted as much if not more. I definitely regret those days of this is this, and that is that! Life isn’t about making dire pronouncements. It’s about living it fully. And, for me, that means with lots and lots of color!

My outfit…

You may recognize this print! I also have it in a gorgeous jersey dress seen here. Anna, the manager at the April Cornell store in Asheville, sent me a photo of herself in this cute little jumpsuit. Now, I’d been thinking about this California Rose jumpsuit for some time. It didn’t take much before I was calling her and ordering it! One of the things I like about it (besides pockets and the jersey fabric) is the ability to change the length of the straps. That’s a game changer when you’re short and short waisted! I added the Tulip Cuff Shrug from Clara Sunwoo. I have been surprised at how often I reach for it. It truly is the perfect cover up!

Why, yes! That rose is in an unfortunate spot!

The Lewk!

Oh, I definitely need another pair of dressy sandals, right? But, these Willow sandals work with just about everything and are really comfortable! My earrings and necklace are from eBay and are very old. I found the bracelet in a cute little boutique in Winona Lake, IN years and years ago. I’m definitely reverting to my old teacher self when it comes to my accessories!

Wrap it up, Marsha!

I do hope you weren’t expecting some kind of motivational advice! I reserve that for my kids…hahaha! They love it just as much as I’d guess you would. I think it’s important that everyone lives their authentic lives as best they can. That doesn’t mean I am always Little Miss Sunshine…Nigel will tell you that is rarely the case! I’m more like Little Miss Mostly Sunny with a Few Clouds! So, can we talk? Are you a more neutral person, or are you willing to wear all the colors? Do you have a favorite color and wear it often (I just have to mention this…a girl I went to high school with has worn purple clothing every day since 1992…that’s almost 11,500 days…can you even imagine?) Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk! I promise I do respond as soon as possible even though some of you may not receive any notification of it.

  1. You know I’m all for black, but I do love colours. Especially the colours of your jumpsuit! And I like a floral print a lot. But why nudists wear a hat?…. lol!

    • Thanks, Nancy! You look stunning in black (and every other color I’ve seen you wear)! Well, nudists would need a hat to prevent sunburn…especially if they had no hair up there! Hahaha!!!

  2. That is the cutest jumpsuit! I also need adjustable shoulder straps (or else shorten them myself).

    • Thanks, Joanne! I was glad to see the adjustable straps. I have another that is really cute, but the straps don’t adjust so it’s in the maybe give away pile!

  3. I totally love the entire vibe of this outfit and your attitude! I think when we are young, due to inexperience, many of us start out with a limited view of the world in terms of right and wrong. But experience softens those edges and we come to see that humans and their situations are complicated.

You know if I was going to be stuck wearing just one color, I think it would be purple. But yeah, i am much happier wearing some rendition of all the colors.

    • Thanks, Michelle! I think I was more black and white in terms of right and wrong when I was younger. Now, I see extenuating circumstances. I would be awful on a jury!

My choice would probably be purple, too, but I just can’t imagine limiting myself to just that color!

  4. So funny with the: Little Miss Mostly Sunny with a Few Clouds! but isn’t that the truth? Who can be happy all the time, it’s not realistic!!
But I love how you incorporate color. It’s truly very powerful and I think it affects people more than we realize.

    • Thanks so much, Jodie! Some days it’s more Little Miss Cloudy with a Minimal Chance of Sunny! But, I try to be happy, content, or joyful for at least part of every day! I love color and have really grown to love mixing unusual colors together. That’s thanks to Debbie Stinedurf! She’s my inspiration and muse!

  5. I am so glad you have moved from being b&w and more rigid to embracing color and lightness. This outfit is a prime example. It is alive with color in its floral print. The white topper adds a little ‘grounding’ to keep you from soaring away – like a helium balloon or a stick of cotton candy. I love it.
I love color and print but gravitate toward peach and green when picking a color to wear. I have been known to buy the same pair of green pants more than once. Just because I would see them and fall in love with the color again. Ha! But I don’t wear green everyday by any means.
Glad to see that 10 on the 10th questions. Will try to join the fun

    • Thanks so much, Leslie! You are a born writer! I love your analogies!

I have been known to buy something only to get home and discover I already had it (and didn’t need a second)! I was gobsmacked when I saw this woman had worn purple every single day (and, she was a teacher for almost all of those years) since 1992! That takes commitment!

I do hope you’ll be a part of 10 on the 10th this month!

  6. What a great jumpsuit, Marsha! I love the floral and the pretty shade of purple! As you know, I have been embracing all the bright colors in my wardrobe lately. I love that your friend has worn purple every day for 30 plus years! That is some serious commitment to one’s favorite color! I couldn’t wear the same color everyday, but I think it is super cool that she has!

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I really do love this print and this color! From what I can tell, she didn’t just wear purple as an accent color…she went full on purple outfits for the most part!

  7. The jumpsuit is fabulous on you Marsha! The color looks amazing on you. I’ve been branching out more and doing jumpsuits as well.

  8. When I started my blog, I was wearing a lot of color and print mixing. I’ve gravitated to more neutrals over the past few years, but I still love a bold and colorful print. Your jumpsuit is fabulous! And that little shrug is the perfect layering piece!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • Thanks, Jill! I have always loved prints and colors, but I rarely did much in print mixing. That’s probably because my mom was so insistent on never wearing two different prints!

  9. That is such a pretty jumpsuit and the colours are perfection and suit you so well. Yes, work clothes. I always wore suits and silk blouses – talk about boring! Colour plays a wonderful part in livening up our style and our outfits! Have a lovely weekend, Marsha 🙂

    • Thanks so much, Penny! It’s funny how we change our minds about what is/was stylish, right?

  10. You are smashing in that fabulous jumpsuit! I really like the periwinkle of the background. It’s beautiful onyou!
