How to Wear Graphic Tees!

Nothing new…

How is life for you today, my friends? Docent training is going well. I had been thinking I really hadn’t learned much. But, I was talking with a friend today, and I starting rattling off all the things I’ve learned. I kinda shocked myself! It has been fascinating, to say the least. Someday, I will write a post about it. Today is the third Thursday of April which means it’s time for an Ageless Style challenge. This month, Leslie selected Graphic Tees. In the past we have worn fuzzy, chocolate and cream, holiday casual, winter blues and many other ideas. If you’re curious, you can find some of my looks herehere, here, and here. Next month’s prompt is Black and White in case you’d like to join us! Please do visit the other hostesses of the link party (oh, yes, there’s a link party) at their various sites!

Graphic tees…

There was a time whenever I heard the word, graphic, I thought of raunchy or risqué. Now, the word conjures up images of tees that have some kind of graphic or picture on it. Oftentimes, you’ll see words or sayings on them, too. I love a good graphic tee, but there was a time when I steered clear of them. That’s because I didn’t necessarily want someone staring at my chest. I think that’s why I usually go for graphic tees with large words rather than lots of little ones. One of the things graphic tees do these days is send a message.

What to wear…

Honestly, I think you can wear graphic tees with just about anything. I love seeing them worn with dressy skirts and sneakers. I was going to do that, but I ran out of time for the photoshoot. How about pulling one on over a dress and knotting it at the side? Or, maybe, if you’re braver than I am, slice it up the side and tie it? Of course, the go-to way I wear graphic tees is with jeans or shorts. I’m almost at the point where I consider graphic tees as a neutral…almost, but not completely there!

My outfit…

I have been on the lookout for the perfect denim skirt for ages. I discovered this one from Ann Taylor in my closet. I have no idea when I bought it…oops! It’s not the perfect denim skirt, but it will be on repeat this summer. The graphic tee is my all time favorite quote from Wuthering Heights. In fact, Nigel had it made into a very large poster which hangs in our bedroom. It’s very long so I need to figure out what to do with it. I watch those videos of people cutting here and there to create a different look. I’m going to have to experiment on an old tee I really don’t like to see what I can do.

The Lewk!

These are one pair of my old Born sandals. I also have them in mustard and black. There’s a new iteration of them (here), but I’m not sure they’re what I want (not that I really want any). The bracelets are from the Newfields gift shop. They’re a little loose so I twisted them together as best I could, but that big wooden bead kept them separated. These are the Assuta White Drop earrings from Sylca Designs. I discovered this brand at the Newfields gift shop, too! If you don’t like this color combination, there are eight others!

Wrap it up, Marsha!

I realize I didn’t really tell you how to wear a graphic tee. I used that title to increase my SEO score. I don’t know that it does much because of the new AI component of Google. Believe it or not, titles are the hardest part of a blog post (usually). So, can we talk? Are you a fan of graphic tees? Do you collect band tees? What is your favorite way to wear a graphic tee? Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as soon as possible.

Thank you!

  1. That’s a very good looking skirt Marsha! I’m not a fan of graphic tees, I don’t dislike them either. But I always find them so ,,busy,,. Band Tees I never wear, to masculine for my liking. But I would wear a graphic tee with a suit, of I had one, lol.

    • Thanks, Nancy! I was so happy to find it squished in between a few others. I’ve never had a band tee because they tend to be men’s sizes. Oh, I think you would totally rock a graphic tee with some of your really cool skirts…like that black asymmetrical one!

  2. For decades, I have worn practically nothing but graphic tees. People told me they were always waiting to see what the next one was.
A lot of them had animals on them, I got them at zoos or other gift shops as wearable souvenirs. My favorites were The Mountain t-shirts some of which I still have in my wardrobe for sentimental reasons.
I also love my Discworld tees, nothing like going to work announcing I’m a member of the Assassins Guild or wearing Death petting a kitten.
Another favorite were my nerdy tees. I think my biggest success was “He’s dead, Jim.” I’m not even a Star Trek fan, but that phrase always made me laugh (here’s to the red shirts, may they rest in TV peace). It was amazing how many people had never heard that quote.

    • Hahaha!!! Cat, you never cease to amaze me! I had no idea you were such a rebel! Do you have any library themed ones? I love Star Trek and remember that well! Thanks, Cat, for making me laugh today!

      • I think I’m just weird and my bosses got around to accept that. It probably helped that a lot of our patrons are students 😉
I had one wonderful library shirt. It was a librarian opening an ancient book and a huge bookworm came out to devour her. It was a big hit at the library. I had asked the cartoonist specifically if he would put the design in his shop. Unfortunately, I can’t find a picture of it right now.

  3. I actually didn’t participate today because I don’t own a single graphic tee! I do have a hiking shirt or two that has a large graphic on the back but that’s the closet I get. I think if I did own them I’d mostly wear them with denim as well.

    • I don’t think there’s anything wrong with not participating. I think it would be worse to feel like you had to buy something you’d never wear again. Thanks, Joanne, for coming by!

  4. I do love a graphic tee! They are a lot of fun! I always think they go well with denim skirts or jeans. I love your outfit.

  5. I love that quote on your graphic tee! I don’t own too many because I always struggle feeling comfortable in them. I hate drawing attention to my chest but I think a graphic tee is so cool! Your skirt is the perfect length and wash – a classic!
Also? I cannot even imagine all you are learning as a docent – what an honor for you to be chosen!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Thanks, Kellyann! I have gotten to the age where I really don’t care if someone stares at my chest. Now, if they make a comment or more than that, I’m gonna let them know! I was so happy to find this skirt as what I had planned didn’t quite work out.

I am absolutely loving docent training. I have learned so much, and I can wait to “graduate” and be a real docent!

  6. I really like this!! Cute tee and such an easy look to put together. I have a couple similar denim skirt that I need to wear and will have to add a tee!

    • Thanks, Mireille! I had completely forgotten I had this skirt. It’s not the “perfect” one, but I’m beginning to doubt that exists!

  7. That quote is amazing, and I think that’s the best part about these shirts…when you find one that really means something to you (or as in my case is snarky, LOL).
I love how you paired it with denim…but a skirt and I wore my belt just like that yesterday.
    XOXO
    Jodie

    • Thanks, Jodie! I actually went looking for this one because I wanted that specific quote. I really had intended to do something more out of the ordinary, but I ran out of time!

  8. Nice sentiment on your tee! I didn’t wear graphic tees until fairly recently. Have a great weekend.

    • Thanks, Gail! I loved the quote and really liked the graphic part of it, too! I think I probably started wearing them ten years ago. Have a wonderful weekend!

  9. I quite like a suitable graphic tee, I have some about gardening and books! What a surprise!

  10. Yes to what this tee says! Love it Marsha! This classic look is so perfect for spring.

  11. Good question. Prior to this post I thought I had lotsmof graphic tees but I discovered that in fact I do not. 🤣. That being said, like you said they are so versatile so I do need to do a quick replenish especially through the summer they tebt to be a staple, a graphic tee and denim shorts. I love how you style dit with a denim skirt and it look fabulous on you. I like that it gives you shape and you look fantastic 😍

    • Thanks, Bo! I wonder if you won’t come home with a couple! I know it’s strange to see my actual legs on the blog…hahaha!!!

  12. I love the quote on your graphic tee! I have a bunch of graphic and band tees but haven’t worn them in ages. I’m definitely going to have to get them back into the rotation. Thank you for the inspiration!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • Thanks, Jill! It’s very special to me. I can’t wait to see your band tees! I’m sure you have some really good ones!

  13. That is a great graphic tee! I have a hard time finding a good quote or message that I like enough to wear. But I love the casual vibe they bring to outfits. That is a great quote on yours!

    • Thanks, Laura! I loved it with just the quote, but I really liked the print under it. It can be difficult finding the just right graphic tee, I know!
