I know the holiday season started last week, but I’m a bit of a slow starter here at Haus der Mitte. I did pack away almost all of the pumpkins. They have to be lugged up to the attic. Last year, when we put Christmas decor away, I relied on my sons to help. And, I’m truly grateful for that. We no longer have a basement, but we have a fairly deep crawl space as well as the attic space over the garage. I’m not a fan of getting off or on the ladder that goes into the attic. My claustrophobia just goes into overdrive when I dive into the crawlspace. The problem is I don’t really know where anything is. So, this year, I will be organizing my decor differently. I think the pumpkins will go upstairs, and the Christmas will remain downstairs. I have to be careful with candles, though, as they would surely melt in the attic!
Christmas season…
We usually kick off the holiday season with a visit to Winterlights before Thanksgiving. I try to buy the preview tickets because they’re significantly less expensive. I completely missed that bubble, though! Instead, we went on Sunday night. And, it was glorious! Look for a post later this week. We celebrated Thanksgiving with good food, wonderful games, and even more fabulous company. I beat my grandson at “Battleship.” I always play to win! But, unlike Nigel, I’m a good winner! Black Friday shopping was fun but seemed very low key. I think the sales start so early that people just don’t bother to go out on Black Friday. I kinda miss those days of standing in the lines in the dark.
Other activities…
I play in the handbell choir at our church, and we are going to play one of my favorite songs, “Carol of the Bells.” This is a different arrangement from the one I played at our previous church. But, I love it just the same. We will then play another song at both services on Christmas Eve. I will also be helping with the Christmas program for our adult students with learning challenges. In addition, I’m hoping I can see the Nutcracker with someone in my family. I think I missed the boat on seeing Trans-Siberian Orchestra, though. The Festival of Trees is also going on in Indianapolis. Perhaps, Scrooge…I mean, Nigel…will go along with me.
What to wear…
Well, it just so happens I have this gorgeous Hannah Jersey dress in sunwashed red from April Cornell to wear! I may have a couple of these dresses in my closet. If you’re not a fan of red, there’s a really pretty jade color. If I hadn’t received this one, I’m pretty sure I would have purchased the jade version. As many of you know, I’m a Brand Ambassador for April Cornell and can offer you a discount code, MARSHA15, which is good for $15 off $100 purchase. I’m not sure if that works should you go into or call the retail stores. One of the reasons I own more than one of these dresses is the ease of wearing them as well as the embroidery and lace details which are so much a part of the April Cornell brand. I will probably wear a pair of my combat boots for any activity that calls for lots of walking, though.
The Lewk!
Typically, I wouldn’t put red and green together, even at Christmas! But, these L’Artiste Waterlily boots seemed like the perfect pairing. They’re dressy yet casual. And, they aren’t the traditional Christmas green. I then added lots and lots of bling. Except for the earrings, all of these pieces are from Banana Republic and are several years old. The earrings are from Stella & Dot. I didn’t want to wear a longer necklace to take away from the embroidery on the bodice.
Wrap it up, Marsha!
Sorry for the short post today! If you want a longer one, I hope you’ll read yesterday’s (if you haven’t already). Honestly, I do love April Cornell clothing and linens. I don’t have near the linens as clothes, but I can vouch for their quality, too. Did you notice the polka dots on the bridge? Those were actually raindrops. Don’t worry; I didn’t melt! So, can we talk? Have you started Christmas shopping? Or, do you celebrate a different holiday? If so, how do you celebrate it? Are you planning any holiday outings? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as soon as possible.
Thank you!

You look fabulous in red Marsha! This is the perfect holiday look. The lights on Sunday was such a great idea!

Thank you, Kathrine! I love these dresses because they are so easy to wear, and they’re beautiful, too! Yes, the lights are amazing! I would love to go back, but I doubt I can talk Nigel into it as the temperatures have gotten really cold.
It’s amazing how those boots look so different with the dress and from far away. I thought they were a silver grey until you showed them up close. It’s a good example of how many things work even though they are not the color we think.
We always love doing the Christmas things. This year we are even going to the Nutrcracker ballet. Yippee,
OXOX
Jodie
Thanks, Jodie! I have noticed they are showing up as grey in photos at the park. Maybe it’s all the natural light? But, they worked really well with the dress and didn’t have that overly Christmas-y look to them.
I’m not sure if I’ll make it to the Nutcracker or not. I do love it and find myself completely mesmerized by all the dancing!
You look very festive! I started… and pretty much finished my Christmas shopping in just a week or so. This was a very easy year since I had so few gifts and people to buy for.
Thank you, Joanne! I am farther along than I usually am at this point. I’m trying to hustle my people for lists because shipping seems to be taking even longer this year.
I love Carol of the Bells! I am sure it is going to sound beautiful! And you look beautiful in your dress! Love the color!
Thanks, Laura! It is going to be so wonderful to play it again. And, thank you for the compliments!
Beautiful post Marsha. Love your dress. Enjoy Christmas with your sons.

Thanks so much, Cris! We will have a fabulous Christmas! I hope you do as well!
This dress is gorgeous! You look terrific in this color!
I am glad that you enjoyed your Thanksgiving!
When I was a little girl I played in the kids bell choir. I loved it so much! My church now does not have one or I would probably still do it. I can remember my feeling of nervous tension waiting for my turn to ring the bell! I had the tiniest ones. 🙂
Thank you, Erin! It’s not a color I wear very often so I’ve been happy to receive so compliments. At our old church, we played in the choir loft. It was much easier because no one saw me! Now, we play at the front of the church. I have to remember not to count out loud! There is talk of starting the kids on the bells, but I don’t think we have the kid sized bells yet.
There is a holiday lights festival at the botanic gardens that we like to go to every year. The problem is you walk through outdoors and for the last two years, it’s been pouring rain. I’ve done a little Christmas shopping and hope to have it wrapped up by next week. Your dress is such a pretty color and perfect for the holidays! Love the embriordery detail!
Jill – Doused in Pink
We have been lucky, weather-wise. It’s always been cold. I don’t think we’ve had snow on the ground, though there were flurries this year. I am close to getting everything done…just the hard ones, of course!
Thank you so much, Jill! I really do love these dresses because of that embroidery and lace!
