Pumpkin Spice, Anyone?

This little cutie started it all!

No coffee, though…

I am one of the few people you probably “know” who doesn’t like coffee. I’ve tried to like it; I’ve even tried the flavored coffees. But, it’s just not my thing. I do love the smell of it, though. So, I don’t necessarily get excited when pumpkin spice time rolls around when it comes to coffee. And, I have been known to bake a pumpkin cake in June as well as any other month of the year!

The pumpkins live in the attic during the rest of the year. Nigel made the box on the top, but the jars that go inside broke on the way down the stairs.

Pumpkins…

I do happen to love Fall and all that goes with it, especially pumpkins. The pumpkin at the top of the post is the first pumpkin I can remember buying. I think it’s probably made from corn husks. I’m not even sure where I bought it. I’ve collected pumpkins for years as well as made several myself. I found the large metal pumpkin at the center of the table on sale for 80% off! I think I paid less than $10 for it. It’s surrounded by several velvet pumpkins (no feathers or harlequins…yet) as well as some floral pumpkins. Those were so easy to make. I bought some inexpensive pumpkins and decoupaged a fall floral napkin over them. As you can see, I changed up the table a bit with the addition of these cute pumpkin dessert plates I found last week.

Where to put them…

I have pumpkins in the main parts of the house. I don’t have any in the bedrooms or bathrooms. I’m not sure why that is. I only really decorate the primary bedroom for Christmas and leave it as is for the rest of the year. I try to make the front hallway welcoming. It’s rare, however, that anyone actually comes through the front door!

Pumpkin patch in the living room…

Obviously, the living room has the most pumpkins as it’s the largest room in the house. The buffet is a blend of primitive, pumpkins, and Halloween decor right now. It will look like this until after Thanksgiving with the exception of the Halloween items. Those will be stored away around November 1st or 2nd. The tray with the small pumpkins is another DIY project. These were small pumpkins of varying colors. I painted them all ivory then added stripes and/or dots in black and gold. I bought the little pumpkin (bottom left) on this particular table at this strange place which is part antique store, part vendor, part little bit of everything. It’s a landscape timber covered with a scrapbook paper then waxed, I think. I picked up the lantern at our visit to IKEA a week or so ago.

A little more…

My great grandfather made this coffee table. At least, that’s what I was always told. It wasn’t in the best of shape when I got it so I painted it, added a cushioned top, and made it into a bench for our bedroom. That is, it was in our bedrooms in the last two houses. There isn’t room for it in the primary bedroom now. So, it’s back to being a coffee table. That actually worked out well because we got rid of our huge sectional couch and replaced it with this more streamlined one (it lived in the basement at our old house). I love throw pillows as does Jack! He likes to fluff them up just right and sleep on them…unless they have beading. You can probably tell the photo where Jack styled the pillows! The curio cabinet houses pots my kids made in high school as well as my collection of Snowbabies. I’m showing a before and after. I made the felt flowers as well as the wreaths.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

I was planning to do a post about my fall decorating. It’s a good thing I had these photos already done because I haven’t been up to snuff lately. Friday, Nigel and I got our Covid shots. I’m always wiped out when I get flu shots as well. That doesn’t, however, explain the absence of Final Friday. I just didn’t get it done and will include September’s things in October’s Final Friday. So, can we talk? Do you decorate for any season? Are you a fan of a particular organic item? Are you even surprised I would go overboard with such things? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk? I promise I will get back to you as soon as I can!

Thank you!

  1. Oh I love how you Americans decorate your houses. We don’t do that at all here, and if we do it looks like a child has been at work. Love to see it all!

    • Hahaha!! Nancy, but your home is probably so chic and elegant. I have tried to do the white room thing, but I just can’t do it. No one will ever accuse me of being a minimalist!

      Thanks, Nancy!

  2. I love your decor, lovely! And your dog is so cute! <3
Honestly I've never had the famous pumpkin spice latte, I have to finally give it a taste this fall! And speaking of pumpkins, pumpkin soup is something I really love making, a butternut squash is one of my favourite groceries to work with! <3

    • Thank you, Jelena! I haven’t ever had a pumpkin spice latte so you’ll have to let me know what you think! I have never had pumpkin soup. It sounds intriguing! Butternut squash was one of my mom’s favorites!

  3. I love the smell of coffee but can not stand the way it tastes and have no desire to ever drink any whether it’s flavored or not. Your house looks lovely decorated for fall. I decorate a bit in our entryway, living room, dining room and kitchen but that’s about it; I didn’t even buy mums or do anything for our front patio this year other than putting up a fall wreath on the door.

    • Thank you, Joanne! I have tried and tried to like coffee, but it’s just not for me! I actually bought and planted some mums. I doubt they’ll come back up, but you never know. I still haven’t changed out the front porch. I probably better get on that, or I’ll need to put up the Christmas stuff!

  4. I do like coffee but I also believe it smells better than it tastes! Unless of course it’s a high calorie coffee filled with all kinds of goodness. Love all the pumpkins Marsha! I bought two new ones this year and that’s all the decorating I’m doing for fall. We’re too busy!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Thanks, Kellyann! I don’t even like those high calorie coffees with all the whipped cream because that bitter taste is the last one! I just get tired of looking at the same thing so I’m glad to be able to decorate for different seasons! Aren’t you off on an exciting trip soon?

  5. The decoration of your bedroom and some small accessories are really beautiful.
It fits the brown atmosphere of autumn and has a rustic vintage feel.

  6. I love all the cute pumpkins in your house! My favorite collection is the white ones with the pretty candle.

    • Thanks, Kathrine! I had lots of fun painting them. The candle is Mackenzie Childs. I have several pieces and love them all!

  7. I love your fall decor. I, too, love to decorate!

  8. I enjoyed seeing all these pumpkins! The ones you painted and decorated with stripes and polka dots are surprising and beautiful. I really don’t decorate for the seasons – you know, rabbits 365 days a year, right? If I were going to decorate for fall, I’d probably do a Halloween theme and end up scaring myself 😀

    • Thanks, Sally! I really wanted black and white pumpkins and just happened to have these little ones. So, I spent a few hours painting them. You make me chuckle…I have to admit I’ve scared myself at times when I’ve hung something in the bathroom to dry and forgot it was there!

  9. I was thinking about getting a covid shot since I haven’t had one in a while. Good thing to know and plan ahead. Love all your cute pumpkin decor!

  10. Marsha, your pumpkin decor is so pretty and your home is so beautiful! I only decorate my front porch for Halloween and then right before Thanksgiving, I put up the Christmas decor. And that is only on the porch, in the living room and the dining room. Everywhere else in my house stays the same all year long. But that’s just because I am too lazy and cheap to do shop for all the stuff! LOL

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I’ve been collecting pumpkins for years and love to display them. It was so much easier in our last house when the stuff was in the basement. Now, I have to go up to the attic and use one of those rickety attic stairs. Not my favorite thing to do!

  11. I love all of these pretty pumpkins. My fall decor is pretty minimal so it took me just a few minutes to take out my pumpkins the other day and put them out. I added some textured ones over the last 2 years and love the white/cream ones (I have a burlap one that I love) vs the original orange color scheme.

    • Thank you, Mireille! I have definitely moved away from the orange and into the more colorful pumpkins. I do love the neutral ones, too.
