Social Butterflies!

Oof…ignore that splat!

Marsha, Marsha, Marsha…

Once upon a time, I wrote a very good post (as opposed to the less than good ones I sometimes write) about fashion quirks and foibles. And, in it, I wrote I’d never wear anything with butterflies on it! Yes, I did. I swore no lepidoptera for me. We are meant to evolve, right? So, maybe I should swear off swearing off certain things! Who knows? Maybe, I’ll even lean heavily into skinny jeans someday! And, boy, do I wish I’d never had bangs cut! I hope they grow out soon!

When you know, you know…

I called Anna at the April Cornell store in Asheville to see about a couple of things because she knows what I actually look like! I thought I wanted the Butterfly Vine print in the skirt, but Anna suggested the sundress. And, I have to say, I’m glad she did. I will wear it much more than a skirt. She also talked me into a few more things that may or may not appear on the blog. If you need anything from April Cornell, call Anna! She knows the brand so well and can recommend combinations you might not even consider. You might mention my code, MARSHA10, but I’m not sure if it will work for phone orders. Oh, and, if the website is out of stock, you might call the store in Asheville. That’s always a possibility.

Moths vs. butterflies…

I knew this was a butterfly print, but I think they look more like Luna moths. Both moths and butterflies are from the order, lepidoptera. There are some differences, though. Butterflies have antennae with little bulbs at the top while moths’ antennae are rather feathery. Another thing, and I was really surprised at this, butterflies make a chrysalis which is not covered in silk. Moths make cocoons which are covered in silk. There are other differences, of course, but I thought these were the most interesting.

Feeling a little sassy!

My outfit…

Unfortunately, the store in Asheville didn’t have a medium in this sundress. But, sundresses can always be worn loose, right? The dress is a skosh big. I need to move some buttons on the bodice to make the sweetheart neckline a bit more noticeable. It’s also 100% cotton so I could probably shrink it if necessary. Today, I decided to go with a denim jacket from J Jill in a pink color I can wear. I also did something a little different with the dress. I love that April designs dresses with button on ties. Today, I decided to tie it in front of the dress. This created some really nice pleating and gave the dress some shaping. It also got rid of some extra floof in the behind! I like how versatile this dress is. I can wear it with a jacket or even the Jane Cropped sweater from this post. It buttons all the way down so I could even wear it open over another dress, jeans, or leggings. There are so many options! By the way, this is not a review so I’m not including the pertinent details I wrote about in Tuesday’s post! But, I do highly recommend this dress. The print really is gorgeous!

I have no idea where the dang birds are! Maybe we have a target on our porch!

The Lewk!

I bought these Rockport Cobb Hill Aubrey shoes sometime after my first foot surgery in 2010. I also have them in a light cognac color. The arch support in these shoes is amazing! Even though my arch is bionic, I still need that support! The earrings and necklace are from a few seasons ago from Kendra Scott.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

What’s that old chestnut? “Never say never!” I need to remember that! While there are definitely butterflies on this dress, I think they look more like graceful leaves! So, can we talk? Have you ever said you’d never wear something, and then ended up wearing it? Do you have a critter you’d never wear on clothing? Do you prefer skirts to dresses? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk! I promise I do respond within a day or two. Please check back to see my responses (unless you’re getting email notifications like WordPress tells me you do).

10 on the 10th reminder…

Don’t forget this month’s edition of 10 on the 10th! It’s next week already! “Can” implies ability and “may” is asking for permission (always a teacher). I thought it would be fun to make all of May’s questions “Can” questions. Now, these questions could easily be answered, “Yes” or “No.” But, where’s the fun in that? Please elaborate on your answers. I hope you’ll play along!

  1. That is a beautiful dress!

  2. A beautiful dress but I really like your shoes
    https://www.melodyjacob.com/

    • Thanks so much, Melody! I used to see them offered in all kinds of colors, but it seems they’re limited to neutrals right now.

  3. It took me a while to find the butterflies/moths on the dress because my eyes read the green things as leaves, haha, so it’s a pretty low-key entry point into the world of lepidopterous prints! Looks great with that pink denim jacket (a good pink on you!). I don’t think there are any zoological prints that I avoid…but that’s probably because nobody would want, say, a centipede print (cringe). I like bumblebees but probably wouldn’t buy a bee print, esp. if it were in the classic yellow and black color scheme.

    • Thanks, Sally! Actually, some of the green bits are leaves so you’re excused! I do have to be careful with pinks…they either have to have a blue undertone or not be worn close to my face. Ooooh, centipedes make my skin crawl. Even thinking about them makes my skin crawl! I have seen lots of bumble bee jewelry lately so there may be a print coming soon!

  4. I can’t count all of the times I’ve worn something that I said I wouldn’t. At least now I don’t proclaim that I’ll never wear something. Because it’s sure way more fun to be open to anything and everything. Even if it doesn’t look good, it’s no biggie,
Love the dress and I bet you’ll wear it tons,

    • Thanks, Jodie! I’ve worn it twice already! And, yes, I think I’ve learned my lesson and won’t be saying that again…but who knows!

  5. I’ve done this, too! I think it’s smart- sure, you have an initial reaction to a trend, swear it off, but then you come around and/or find a version that does appeal to you. It’s open-minded and that’s exactly how we should be when it comes to fashion! Plus you look so cute and spring-ready in this pretty sundress.

Hope you have a great weekend ahead, Marsha!

    -Ashley

    • Thanks, Ashley! I was so surprised at how much I liked this print because I just don’t like butterfly prints at all. I think it may be because the print is rather subtle.

I hope you’re having a fabulous weekend, Ashley!

  6. The dress is lovely and I like the denim jacket you added to it! Glad you decided to wear it.

    • Thank you so much, Kathrine! I wasn’t sure about a sundress, but I have now worn it twice already! I really like the green with the burgundy background.

  7. I love this outfit, Marsha! Super pretty and attractive. And yes, the butterflies do resemble Luna moths.

    Michelle

    • Thanks, Michelle! After looking more closely, I discovered some of them are leaves, but I like the idea of moths better than butterflies!

  8. I didn’t even realize there are butterflies in this print! They look like leaves from far away. I think it’s a pretty print and the dress looks lovely on you!

  9. I can see why you love April Cornell so much. You wear her pieces so well! I really like that pink denim jacket – the color is perfection.
And I LOVE your hair – I like the bangs!!!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Oh, thank you so much, Kellyann! I truly love the brand. April is a beautiful soul, too. You like the bangs? They are driving me crazy because if they don’t dry just right, they’re all wonky!

      Thanks, Kellyann!

  10. Butterflies or Luna moths, that dress is perfect. Love the color palette of dusty pink, rose and green. And those shoes…the style and that gorgeous sage green!!! Just wow. I hope to join you for 10 on the 10th this month. It has been too long. Love the graphic and didn’t peek at the questions yet but will get on that tonight. Tried to save the image but it saves as a web file. Not sure how to save it as a jpeg or image. Will play around with it.

    • Thank you, Leslie! I really love this little dress, and I think it’s because of the color palette. It’s just so pretty! I do love these shoes. I hope they come out with them in more exciting colors than what I could find now. They had them in so many colors a few years ago.

I always do a right click and then it comes up to save image as. I hope you can do that. I’m glad you’re joining. Do you want to rejoin as a co-host? It’s your baby after all!

  11. I love that you have someone at the shop who can help you choose clothes: that is awesome! I think this is a pretty print and yes, you will find many ways to wear it!
    http://www.chezmireillefashiontravelmom.com

    • Well, it’s a good thing and a bad thing because she often suggests more than I had intended to buy!

      Thanks so much, Mireille!

  13. OMG, I love this dress so much, Marsha! What a gorgeous print and the colors are so beautiful. Your pink jacket is so good with it, too. I cannot think of anything right now, but I most definitely have said I would never wear something then tried it and loved it. My mama always said that if something elicits a strong emotion on the hanger, whether it’s a positive or negative emotion, you should try it on. Because there is never any harm in trying it on!

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I was really drawn to the dark burgundy color with the light green. It’s even better in person! Your mama was a smart lady! My problem with trying on is I usually end up buying!
