Transitioning a Summer Look to Fall!

Hahaha!!! I won’t be actually wearing this look for quite some time. We are expecting temperatures to remain in the upper 80s (31C) for the next several days. We also have no rain in sight. My front yard is just plain toasted! These are the days I really miss the irrigation system we had at our last home. Well, that’s enough for the weather report, right? Today is the third Thursday of September which means it’s time for an Ageless Style challenge. This month, Rosemary selected transitioning a summer look to fall! Unfortunately, Rosemary has decided to step away from Ageless Style. Life just gets busy. But, we’re welcoming Jen from Joyful Jenn! And, even though I didn’t participate, I chose splurges last month. In the past we have worn white, straw bags, stripes, jeans, and many other ideas. If you’re curious, you can find some of my looks hereherehere and here. Please do visit the other hostesses of the link party (oh, yes, there’s a link party) at their various sites! Today is also a Global Writing Challenge. I’ll have another post ready for that, and it’s all about favorites!

No how-to here…

I’m not giving a how to lesson here on transitioning your look from summer to fall. I am pretty sure you all have a fairly good handle on that one. You add in some warmer layers, maybe some deeper colors, change out your footwear, and et voilà, you have a transitional outfit. In real life (as opposed to blog life), I just trade out my shorts for jeans and my tees for sweatshirts! But, in blog life, I came up with an outfit I really happen to love!

The original outfit…

You might remember this post where I wore the Tova dress from Gudrun Sjödén. It was already sold out when I posted that in July. The dress is a very lightweight organic cotton and is almost sheer. In the original post, I added a slip in the same color, sandals, and summery jewelry.

The new outfit…

For my transitioning a summer look to fall, I added the Sunnanå jacquard cardigan (which is also no longer available). I somehow or other seem to have accumulated quite a few slips! Hmmm…wonder how that’s happened. Anyhoo, I noticed the little bits of green in the embroidery on the cardigan so I chose a green slip this time. I really like the way this outfit came together. I’ve never tried autumn-izing an outfit before this!

The Lewk!

Believe it or not, I think I may be on trend with these brandy colored Miz Mooz Leighton booties! OK, maybe not…the trend is chocolate brown, but Brandy is a shade of brown! I thought they would be the perfect fall boot to wear with this outfit. The jewelry is all old. I believe it’s Effy, and I bought it on eBay along with the earrings. You can’t see them, but there are garnets at the ends of each toggle on the necklace and bracelet. The ring is definitely Effy and is prasiolite with brown topaz stones around the center. I bought it at Macy’s when it was LS Ayres.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

Unfortunately, fall (or autumn) lasts such a short time here in Central Indiana. It could last from mid August until the first of December, and I’d be perfectly happy! I love the crisp, cool nights of autumn. And, I also love the layers you can add to keep warm during those cool nights. So, can we talk? Do you struggle with transitioning from one season to the next? Or, do you find it quite easy as you’ve been doing it for a bit? What is your go-to outfit in the fall? Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as soon as possible.

Thank you!

  1. We really need some rain too; all our streams and things are completely dry! But according to the forecast our 80 degree days are over for the foreseeable future where we won’t even be getting out of the 60’s. I love fall weather and often wished it lasted longer but I really hope winter takes it sweet time getting here. Your outfit is really cute! I like the green peeking out and how it ties in with the sweater.

    • Thanks, Joanne! I was so glad the green slip worked with the sweater. We are supposed to get some rain next week. I really hope so! Our temps are starting to go down, but they won’t be that low! I would be fine if fall lasted into December!

  2. Oh how I wish it was that warm over here. I hate when summer is over, hate the cold, hate the short days, hate everything, haha. Exept for clothing, fall collections are my favourite!

    • Fall collections are my favorite followed closely by winter ones! I love being cozy so I don’t mind the cold temps! You have really had a cold and wet summer, haven’t you? I would take some of that wet right now as we are so very dry.

      Thanks, Nancy!

  3. Your weather sounds just like mine! We are all praying for some rain and cooler temperatures too. Such a cute look! I love all the layers!

    • Thanks, Amy! I really liked the layers, too. I do think we’re supposed to get some rain next week. Our front yard is utterly destroyed to the point where I think I’m going to have to haul in some good soil and reseed it.

  4. This is really really pretty! I love it! Well done, Marsha! And you better wear this in real life when it cools down! Too pretty not to show it to the rest of the world where you live!

  5. Marsha you are tempting me to think about pulling out my brown boots and adding them to an outfit. They’ve been unused for a few falls now but brown is such a great vibe this time of year. Also, I appreciate your real life can blog life honesty. Enjoy the warm temps.

    • Hahaha!! I love my brown boots and wear them frequently when the weather turns cooler. Yeah, I am probably the worst fashion blogger around!

      Thanks, Bo!

  6. Wow, I just adore how you added the slip, and it transitions the color for the booties so well.
    Beautiful and so stylish Marsha,

    Jodie

    • Thanks, Jodie! I had thought the flowers were more red than orange so I was going to wear a red slip. Luckily, I have a green one! I really do love the way this came out.

  7. Hi, Marsha – This is a beautiful layered look. Goes to show that any (light, lacy, etc.) layering is the way to go as the weather cools. Thanks for this great link up – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

  8. I love that you did these light neutral layers for this challenge! It has been so hot so layering any other way is not fun. The boots are fabulous!

    • Thanks, Kathrine! I had bought the cardigan to go with a different dress, but it works really well with this one. I hope your weather is turning soon. Ours has gotten quite a bit cooler, but it’s very humid now.

  9. It’s still hot here, too, and my lawn looks horrible. I love the layers and mix of textures of this fall look! The embroidery detail on your jacket is so pretty!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • Thanks, Jill! I really love these slips, but I’ve got to stop buying them! We have gotten a little rain…I hope you have, too. Our yard is only a couple of years old so I’m not sure how badly not having rain will effect it.

  10. What a fantastic outfit and pretty layers. I also love your front door area decorations. <3
Hope you have a wonderful weekend. /Madison

  11. I really like this outfit. My favorite part being the green slip or underlayer. The boots are perfect with it even if they aren’t whatever brown is on trend. I prefer your ‘brandy.’ Look at you with the edgy little streak of green in your hair, too. The best color. We don’t have much fall here either. We can’t seem to get finished with summer. Just on and on with these upper 90* afternoon. Grrr. Then it will be fall for about a week and then cold. We are going to try to tackle church tomorrow. Not sure what to wear but looking forward to wearing something besides baggy athletic shorts.
    Have a restful Sunday.

    • Thanks, my friend! It’s a slip though it could probably be worn as a skirt…hmmm…maybe double up on them…possible post? I really love these boots because they are so supple and comfortable. I would love them in every color, but that would be dumb, right? I’m hoping for an extra long fall because I blinked and spring was over! I hope you are soon back to being on both feet…I know your pain!
