Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot!

Week 133!

My youngest granddaughter had a concert tonight. We are under a winter weather advisory calling for lots of snow. She lives about 45 minutes away, via a heavily traveled interstate. And, I was leaving after it got dark. My cataracts were saying, “No way! Are you nuts?” My heart said, “You get your butt there!” My son was going to pick me up on his way home from work then bring me back home after the concert. Or, I could spend the night. I ended up driving up and leaving right after her part of the concert was over. Now, I know that is awful, and I wouldn’t ordinarily leave before a concert was over. All of the students and teachers work hard, but my bonus daughter had said she’d heard there was black ice. So, I left as one group was leaving the stage, and another was taking it. This is a huge high school with six different orchestras (all strings). I didn’t feel quite as bad, knowing there were lots of people in the audience. Anyway, it’s time for the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot! I’m not sure about times right now, but I will still be aiming for 9:30 pm EDT. So, on with the show, right?

As part of our new year reboot, we are now shining the spotlight on a different blogger each week. We invite you to stop by their blog, take a look around and say hello! This week, we spotlight Paula from Between the Bookends.

Paula says, “I’m thrilled to introduce you to my new space, Between The Bookends! Whether you’re a familiar face from Grace Filled Moments  (Hi There!) or a brand new friend, I’m Paula, and I’m excited to have you here. This little corner of the internet will be a cozy little oasis for our shared love for all things books and writing.

Think of it as a cozy haven for

  • Book reviews & recommendations: Dive into new reads or rediscover old favorites!
  • What I’m currently reading: Let’s nerd out over books together!
  • Book club & Bible Study
  • Link-ups (sometimes! Quarterly, maybe?), Journaling Prompts, Reading and Writing Supplies and Purchases, Scrapbooking, Digital scrapbooking and Book making (I’m not much for scrapbooking or digital books, but I know many of you are— So we’re going to explore away with our Contributor Jennifer Wise from Photo & Story Treasures), and Random Musings— Because who doesn’t love a good mix?
  • Discussions and friendships. Let’s create a community where bookish dreams come true!

Between The Bookends is not just a new space; it’s a sister site to Grace Filled Moments, where you can find all things Christian living and encouragement.” You can find Paula’s blog here, and please tell her we sent you!

  1. You did very well to get there to see your granddaughter. I would have left before the end too. Thanks for the link-up

    • Thank you, Gail! It’s actually one of the reasons we moved almost 11 years ago…to see and take part in the grands’ activities. What I didn’t say in the post was that it took we probably three or four times longer on the road than the actual part of the concert she was in! But, that’s OK. You’re welcome for the link up!

  2. It was a smart decision to leave early and I’m glad you made it there and also made it back safely!
    Have a great weekend!

    • Thanks, Cat! I was questioning myself the whole way up there because you could see the fine snow swirling on the roads. I thought it would be a slick ride home, but there was nothing. The roads were even dry…weird! I hope you and the fun fur kids have a fabulous weekend!

  3. I am glad you were at the concert and that you left when you did. Black ice sounds very scary! I’m sure it meant a lot to your granddaughter that you were there!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Thanks, Kellyann! Black ice is terrifying. You really don’t know it’s there until you hit it. And, it’s even worse when the driver beside you hits it! I was so glad I went because she is just a doll…but don’t tell her I said that!

  4. When I was performing I really only cared that my family was there and the rest of the families just sort of faded into the background. I’m sure no one would fault you for leaving early!

    • Thanks, Joanne! When L was in junior high, she would walk right past us and look as far to the opposite way as possible. I told her I was going to yell, “Hey, L!” She told me I’d get kicked out!

  5. Marsha,
    My Link Ups for today’s party are # 38, 39 and 40!!
Thanks so much for hosting this charming party!!! I truly do appreciate it as I do know the time involved with it….I hope you and your family are well and enjoying your week!
    Hugs,

  6. I would have chosen to leave early too. I think you made the right call for your safety and I’m sure anyone who knew why you slipped out would have totally understood why.

    • Thanks, Lisa! I really hate doing that. There were going to be six different orchestras playing so I’m sure my absence was only noted as I ducked out! It was so weird, though, the roads which had been wet when I drove up there were dry as I drove home…which was a very good thing.

  7. I totally get the cataracts screaming are you nuts! I need to get my done but I just keep putting it off. Then when I drive at night I am reminded it is time. Everything is blurry and the halos around the lights drive me crazy! I am glad you got home safely. Thanks for sharing my travel outfit. Hope you are staying warm and cozy,

    Karin

    • You are so welcome, Karin! I’m glad you continue to link up with us. Ah, yes…those halos! I also have been diagnosed with dry eyes and underwent three IPL procedures to help out plus I take special drops. I’m just hoping, when I do finally book a consult, they don’t tell me that has to be remedied before they can do anything. I can tell the cataracts are getting worse. Isn’t getting older a surprise every minute?

  8. We have two concerts coming up next week: my son’s chorus (high school) which I am really looking forward to and my 6th grade’s band concert which hopefully will sound like music, lol! No snow or ice here but looks like some overnight lows in the teens 2 times next week!

    • We are supposed to get quite a bit of snow on Saturday, but I think we’ll be in the 50s next week. We’ll have another green Christmas, I’m afraid. I have to give it to orchestra and band directors. They teach those students so much and have to know even more…imagine knowing how to play each instrument. I’m sure the concerts will all be very nice.

  9. I would have done the same with leaving after her part! I don’t mess around with ice. Don’t feel bad! I need to remember this link up! It’s so good and has such variety!
