Family photos…
A week ago, we had family photos taken. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and just a bit, OK, a lot chilly. I had told everyone to wear something that made them feel good. OK, I lied. I told my daughter and bonus daughter to dress their families in something that made them feel good. The guys could wear jeans, and the girls could wear whatever. Then, I decided we maybe needed a little bit of cohesion. So, I told daughter and bonus daughter I would be wearing a dress and asked that the girls all wear dresses. I know lots of people plan out a color scheme and all that. I am more a “fly by the seat of my pants” kinda person (I’m guessing y’all know that). As it turned out, my two granddaughters wore very similar dresses (they’re cousins, not sisters). Everyone actually looked pretty good with blue being the color of choice for most. So, my advice for what to wear for family photos? Wear whatever makes you feel good because then you’ll exude that feeling!
Queen of Procrastinators…
Call me the Queen of Procrastinators…go ahead! I can take it! I have already proclaimed that I am, indeed, the Queen of Procrastinators. And, here is the proof! Two years ago, that would be the Christmas of 2021, my kids bought the gift certificate for this family photo session. They’ve done that before…the grands were all toddlers! But, the difference was my daughter set up the appointment for the photo session. This time…well…let’s just say she didn’t do that! Late last year, I finally emailed the photographer to ask if she would still honor the certificate. She said, “Of course!” She not only honored the gift certificate, she rescheduled a couple of times as our schedules changed! That is customer service, my friends!
Mixed feelings…
I have very mixed feelings about these family photos, I have to admit. I’m beginning to feel the Grim Reaper approaching, and I’m a bit worried this may be our last set with all of us there. I’m not that old, and yet, it’s weird to think I have many more years behind me than before me. I’m sorry to be so maudlin, but this photo session really struck me in that way. We haven’t gotten any photos back yet, but I really can’t wait to see them. Our photographer was amazing, and I think everyone had a good time!
Not too late…
It’s not too late, though, if you’d like to participate in the Style Imitating Art Challenge. You thought I was going to say something else, right? I posted the current art work on Monday (here), and I would love it if a few of you, bloggers and non bloggers, would join in. Honestly, you can’t do this wrong! Here’s the really cool thing about it. You choose an outfit, snap a photo, and take a look at said photo. Then, you get to decide if you want to submit it! No one will ever know if you took a photo and hated it! Just give it a try, and I think you’ll love the excitement of figuring out how to imitate the art.
My outfit…
Well, it isn’t really an outfit, now, is it? But, a few weeks ago, April Cornell had a flash sale. I already have one of these Dakota tunics and love the fit. So, I decided to order this one. I really like the very subtle stripes as well as the embroidery. The website describes the color as sage, but I’d call it more green apple. Hey, that might even be one of the Pantone Spring colors! I also love the length even though it could be a tetch shorter, I suppose. It even has pockets, but they’re the wonderful kind that don’t stick out! There are two other versions (here and here).
The Lewk!
I wasn’t sure of the terrain for our photos so I went with these Annmarie sandals to keep me upright! I thought the 3-D flowers as well as the embossed flowers bookended well with the embroidery on my dress. I then added lots of Lagos jewelry, all of which were gifts from Nigel over the years (bracelet, bracelet, bracelet, and earrings). I haven’t been wearing earrings with posts lately so I had to work to get these earrings in!
Wrap it up, Marsha!
I really am that bad about putting things off. It can be the simplest of things…like ordering Jack’s allergy meds…and I’ll wait until the very last pill! I have no idea why I’m like this, but I’ve been this way my entire life! I remember doing my algebra assignments very late on Sunday evenings even though I’d had an entire weekend! So, can we talk? Are you a procrastinator? Do you put things off until you just have to do it? Or, are you a “Get it done yesterday” kinda person? Have you had family photos done recently? Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as soon as possible.
Thank you!

We gave a party years ago because of our 25th anniversary and most of the guests wore blue! Without giving a dress code. I think more and more lately about my age and feeling sad about it. To think that live isn’t endless scares the hell out of me. Your dress is very pretty! What a gorgeous colour!
Isn’t that interesting that most everyone wore blue! I didn’t used to think much about my age, but I think the pandemic really got me thinking about the end. And, yes, it scares the hell out of me, too. My only consolation is that my mom told me she had died (the day before she actually did), and she said it was beautiful. I am hopeful she was right.
Thank you, Nancy!
The only time or two that we planned large family photos with everyone we also told everyone to wear whatever they felt most comfortable in but when I plan family photos of just the 5 of us (something we’ve only done 3 or 4 times total) I tend to pick out coordinated outfits. I still plan something comfy like jeans for the guys but work with them to pick out a shirt that matches.
We have never done photos with our extended families. That would probably be impossible. The only family photos we have of just us are all church directory photos when the kids were little. I picked out their clothes, but I don’t think, even then, I did much coordinating them!
Thanks, Joanne!
I couldn’t agree more about dressing in what makes you feel good. This dress makes me feel good seeing you in it. I adore the embroidery and the color and the sandals are perfect with it!

Thank you so much, Kathrine! You are so sweet. I wasn’t sure about the dress when it said sage, but the apple green with the stripes is just so unusual. And, the embroidery is even more beautiful IRL!
We had family photos taken in November. Since then, we’ve had another granddaughter so the picture will include more next time. I love the embroidery on your dress!
Thanks so much, Lisa! Congratulations on a new granddaughter! They are wonderful, aren’t they?
I sure hope it’s not your last family photo! I procrastinate too when I get all caught up in the details and want something to be right. I drive myself crazy! In the end it all works out, doesn’t it? We are so silly sometimes. But I bet the photos are FABULOUS!!!
xo,
Kellyann
Thanks, Kellyann! I hope it isn’t, either. I’m glad to hear someone else procrastinates. I think that’s it…the details and wanting it to be just right. In the case of the family photos, it was getting everyone’s schedules coordinated…not easy with three teens! I cannot wait to see them because she took so many and mixed up who was in them, too! Now, to choose, then pay for them!
I am definitely not a procrastinator. My husband is to somewhat degree but I am the type where you come up with the idea and let’s do it now.
It bugs the heck out of him, haha!
This color is just spring and a dress!!
Xoxo
Jodie
Hahaha!!! Somehow, I was pretty sure you are not a procrastinator. I always say I work better under pressure. And, it isn’t all the time nor is it always for important things (like scheduling this photo shoot)! But, in the end, I always get the thing done!
Thanks, Jodie!
I’ve never paid for family pics but I wish we would do a session! Especially with my oldest going off to college. The best family pics we took were at the beach when I was expecting my youngest. I had a passerby take them for us.

I would really recommend doing something, Mireille. We have such a huge gap between family photos…my kids were little to having grands. I am a big one for remembering things with some kind of photo…though I’m not usually in them!
Thanks, Mireille!
Hi Marsha!
Looking forward to seeing the family photos, and it sounds like the photographer was very accommodating! Love this green on you and the pretty flowers. You do know your colors. We did family photos at the beach in Avalon a few years ago, I think there were 2 pictures where my hair wasn’t flying in every other direction! I have picked a few where it was calmer and have them on the wall. I am one that once I start a project I like to do it all until its finished, but sometimes I physically pay the price. I can procrastinate about certain things.
Enjoy your day!
jess xx
Thanks, Jess! I can’t wait to see them. I was so impressed with the photographer for not only honoring such an old gift certificate but for also giving just as much as she would any other time! Oh, I’m good once I start a project (except for knitting), it’s the starting that keeps me from going! And, thank you for the compliment!
Love the spring green of this tunic, and the embroidery is so pretty!
That is the perfect attitude for a family picture, in my opinion! I can be very non-traditional. Which you may have already guessed about me. Lol.
I love your dress!! It is the epitome of spring!
Thanks, Erin! I really liked the colors of the dress when I got it even though the description said sage. My daughter and bonus daughter have done wonderful jobs coordinating outfits for their family photos. They’re gorgeous, but I am just not that worried about it. Yes, I would have already guessed you’re non-traditional…a very good thing to be!
Ooh, I love this green apple dress on you, Marsha! What a gorgeous color. It just screams springtime! I am excited to see your family photos! I used to be Princess Procrastinate when I was younger, but now I am very much a get it done kind of person…most of the time. I find that delaying gratification works wonderfully for my motivation. Get it all done then I can relax! Beautiful post, my friend!
Shelbee
Thank you, Shelbee! I was really glad it was green apple rather than the sage they described. I like sage, but I think it would have been more subtle. I can’t wait to see the photos, either! I’ll have a hard time deciding what to print. I suppose, if I had lots to do during the day, I would be better about procrastinating. Oh, who am I kidding? I was a procrastinator from the womb!!!
Thanks, again!
