10 on the 10th: October!

How are all y’all doing? It’s obviously been a confusing week at my house, but I’ll get my act together one of these days! Today, I had a VTS tour with eight students from local university. They are all going to be Physician Assistants. One of the things about a VTS tour is you need talkers, and I had talkers! We had a lot of conversation about the art pieces I’d selected as well as other things. One of the students asked me, on my very last day at the museum ever, what piece would I touch? Now, we were in the Design Gallery which has lots of chairs and other pieces many wouldn’t consider art. It’s one of the coolest galleries, but few people really get it. They don’t realize that the design of a Dyson vacuum cleaner is just as cool as a Renoir! Anyway, I think they were expecting me to pick one of the chairs. I think I really surprised them (well, they started it with the question). I told them I wanted to run my fingers down the van Gogh painting to feel the texture. Of course, I would soon be hauled away to jail, but maybe it would be worth it! Don’t worry, I’m not going to ever do it. It’s nice to think about though…and isn’t that a rather deep question? But, it’s time for 10 on the 10th! I went with a This or That theme. It’s similar to Would You Rathers and, hopefully, just as much fun!

  • I wonder how many of y’all have me pegged on this one. I am definitely not in the pumpkin spice latte crowd. I don’t like coffee of any kind. I love the smell of it, but the taste is so bitter. Nigel says it’s an acquired taste…a lot like beer which I don’t like, either. I also have to be in the mood for apple cider, and I really prefer it warm.
  • Layers are a must for me! I’m way past menopause, but I still get hot flashes. I also have a tricky thyroid which means my inner thermostat is out of whack. When I’m hot, I’m really hot. When I’m cold, I’m freezing. Layers are life savers for me. It’s just so much easier to throw a jacket or sweater on or off. That doesn’t mean I don’t wear bulky sweaters. It means I usually have a layer underneath it!
  • Definitely a craft fair! I love fall craft fairs. At heart, I love to decorate in the primitive style. And, craft fairs are the best place to find those things. Also, you just see so much creativity and imagination at work. I almost always come away thinking, “I could do that.” But, the truth is I wouldn’t. It has been years since I’ve been to a good craft fair, though.
  • I am not a football fan at all. The game makes no sense to me at all. You have an offence team as well as a defense team. That means one team is always resting, right? So, give me a good movie night, and I’m happy! I love to go to the theater to see movies, but it’s been ages since I’ve done that. I had hoped to see the second “Practical Magic” movie in the theater. I’m not even sure if it’s still showing. But, I am going to a movie today (Saturday) about Romare Bearden with a docent friend! I’m just a tad excited about that one!
  • OK, it’s my blog, my this or thats, so my answer is both! I love fuzzy socks because they’re usually soft and squishy and keep your feet nice and warm. I also love fuzzy slippers. When I was pregnant with our oldest, Nigel had bought me a pair of elephant slippers. Do you remember those big old slippers that looked like stuffed animals? Well, imagine the nurse’s surprise when she came in to check my stitches and uncovered me only to find those big old slippers and my naked bits and pieces!
  • This is another hard one. I don’t cut up my pumpkins and make jack-o-lanterns because pumpkin guts are so gross. In fact, this year, I didn’t even buy real pumpkins. For a little bit more, I bought big artificial ones I can use over and over again. The thing is I really like those non-orange pumpkins right now…especially the warty ones! But, it really isn’t Fall without orange pumpkins, is it? Of course, my pumpkin patch inside the house isn’t orange, either. It’s more black and white! So, I’m gonna hedge my bet and say I like all pumpkins!
  • Hahaha! I love this one! I’m going to guess y’all will say jeans. But, I love leggings! I know they’re not supposed to be on trend right now, but I really don’t care. They’re one of the most versatile things ever! Say it’s a bit chilly outside, but you still want to wear a dress. Throw on some leggings! I mean if tights are OK, then why not leggings. Of course, I’m going to quantify this, and it’s really only about me. I don’t wear leggings as pants. I wear them under long tunics (which are supposedly out right now, too) or very short dresses. But, to just go out and about in leggings…nope. Oh, wait. I do go out in leggings if I’m running to Lowes or some place like that. So, I guess I do wear leggings as pants.
  • OK, I really don’t like horror movies. I’m not talking about the good old black and white ones with Bela Lugosi and company. I’m talking about those slasher psychological thrillers! You know…the ones that really could happen…yeah, I don’t like those at all. I remember seeing the first “Halloween” movie. We went with some friends and had intended to go to a different movie, but it was sold out. I was scared the entire time Michael Myers was terrifying poor Jaime Lee Curtis! I have to tell you I checked the back seat of my car every time I got in it for years! The Halloween Baking Championship, though, oh, my gosh do I love it! I actually love all those seasonal baking championships, especially when Jesse Palmer (le sigh) is the host! That man is built like a really nice gingerbread cookie! I find John Henson a little annoying, but he can be fun. The part I like best about the show is when the judges come out in costume for the final round! Zac Young just cracks me up because he leans hard into whatever character he is! I mean, I don’t like to cook, but I do like to bake…not that you’ll be seeing me on any baking championship show!
  • Can you tell I was getting desperate here? Again, it’s my blog and my list! I’m going to go with a crisp, chilly day with a thunderstorm thrown in! That way, I can put on all my layers with my leggings, add my fuzzy socks or slippers, have some warm apple cider, and watch the Halloween Baking Championship! Doesn’t that sound like the perfect day?
  • This one is hard. I really don’t like kettle corn because it’s rarely as sweet/salty as I’d like it. And, you have to eat it warm, or it’s not really that good. Plus, I’m picking popcorn out of my teeth forever! I don’t like candy corn, either. If you add some peanuts, it’s bearable because, again, you get the sweet/salty thing going on. I think I’ll just save the candy corn for the grands. I bet one of them would like it!

Wrap it up, Marsha!

Hmm…do I like these better than Would You Rathers, or are they basically the same just in a different format? I’m not really sure, but it seemed like these were so much easier to answer. As I said on Tuesday, this is my second favorite time of year to decorate, and it’s my favorite (or second favorite…depending on the winter) season. I’m just so happy we aren’t sweaty and gross these days! So, can we talk? Are you really into football? Can you please explain the whole reasoning behind having two different teams? How about pumpkins…fan or not? Big question here…do you hate me because I don’t like coffee, especially PSL? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as soon as possible.

Thank you!

  1. We had the same answers in some cases but not others (my post isn’t up yet).
Despite my answer I have a pair of shark slippers, by the way, but they quickly got reduced to cat toys!
