Style Imitating Art!

Frida Kahlo and Her Pet Deer Granizo by Katherine Quinn

Style Imitating Art…

It’s time for another round of Style Imitating Art! A few years ago, I joined Shelbee and Salazar as curators for SIA. We begin with a piece of art, create looks based upon that art, and share them on our blogs. Think of it as fashion meets art museum! Anyone and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in on the fun. You don’t have to be a blogger to participate, either! Shelbee selected our inspiration artwork this week.

How it works…

Here are the details: Every other Monday, one of us will select a piece of art. That is shared via all three co-hosts’ blogs. On the following Monday, all three share their looks on their blogs. If you choose to participate, send a photo to the curator for that particular week. You, as well as the other participants, will be featured on the curator’s post that Wednesday. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! If you decide to play along this time, please send your photo to Shelbee by Tuesday, March 10th at 10:00 pm EST to be included. I hope you will join us! I think this could be the best way to start something new! Remember, you don’t have to be a blogger to be a part of this. You can snap a photo and send it in. We love to have readers join in on the fun, too.

Why…

Shelbee says, “Since March is International Women’s Month, I wanted to continue Marsha’s trend of choosing a female artist. Actually, I have chosen a female artist 4 out of the last 6 times that I chose the art. So for this one, I chose a female artist’s depiction of another female artist!  Katherine Quinn is an illustrator from New Zealand. For our artwork, I chose an illustration from a 2020 picture book called Pets and Their Famous Humans written by Ana Gallo and illustrated by Katherine Quinn.  I just absolutely love this depiction of Frida Kahlo with her pet deer, Granizo, whom she memorialized in her painting, The Wounded Deer. I adore the whimsical style of Katherine Quinn’s illustrations as well as the lovely saturated color palette. I am very ready for spring and this image is screaming spring at me as well!  Since this is an illustration from a book, I don’t even know what to call it. I guess just, “Frida Kahlo and Her Pet Deer Granizo” by Katherine Quinn.”
