Week 28!

Welcome back for this week’s edition of the Fashion Files, hosted by Amy and me! If you don’t know Amy, her blog is Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa. I hope it’s a beautiful world wherever you are! I got both my flu and Covid shots on Friday. I knew Saturday would be rough, but I had no idea how rough. I ended up at an urgent care with an infection. I seriously doubt it had anything to do with the shots, but I was miserable for most of Saturday. I slept most of that day away and then slept 12 hours Saturday night/Sunday morning. I knew I wouldn’t be able to complete an assignment at the museum so I cancelled that on Saturday. I’m happy to report the antibiotics have kicked in, and the pain and burning (IYKYK) are gone.

Let’s get this party started!

If you’re a fashion blogger, this is the place to be. It’s the day of the week where I talk about the things I wore last week and what I did as well as anything I might have bought. It’s also the place where you can tell us about what you wore, what you bought, what you wished you’d bought! Please tell your friends about our link party because we’d love to see it grow and grow! Unfortunately, life was busy last week so I didn’t make it anyone’s posts (other than those I already visit). I will try to hit last week’s as well as this week’s sometime during the week. So, on with the show! Huzzah!

Last week’s looks…

Tuesday – Nigel had physical therapy in the afternoon. I finally got caught up on blogging, reading, commenting, and responding. Of course, that really never ends, does it? I also worked at clearing things out of the kitchen because…wait for it…our countertops were in! The installers also had a window when they could install them rather than having to wait a couple more weeks. EEEEKKK!!! Now, for those of you who are new or don’t remember, we I decided we would do all the demolition. That saved us mega dollars and really was easy in the long run. Huge thanks to my son, bonus son, and daughter! But, I’m getting ahead of myself. I really think these embroidered Old Navy jeans are cute, but that hammer hanger thing is just weird. I added an old, and I do mean old J Jill embroidered top. It’s really tunic length so I fiddled around with buttoning it so it wouldn’t hang quite as long. I like the way the embroideries mimic each other.

Wednesday – I had a follow up meeting with the steering committee for our weekend retreat. We discovered the weekend we usually go on retreat has already been scheduled despite our reserving that weekend for the last nine years. Several of the women had visited/researched other possibilities for next year. This was to go over those places. Usually, these meetings go on and on. This time, we whipped through the “agenda” (there really wasn’t one) in less than an hour. That’s my kind of meeting. I wore my Cicy jeans with a black tee shirt and a lace button up from Loft. One of the women asked me if I dressed up everyday. I wasn’t quite sure how to answer that as I don’t necessarily consider this dressing up. Another woman spoke up and told her I had a blog! Thanks, my friend! I actually love this outfit. You might remember, in the battle of the jeans, I wore a black linen sweater with the jeans. It didn’t look near as good as this one. I’ll definitely repeat this outfit and often! Later that night, my daughter and her husband, my bonus son, came over to help with removing the countertop on the island and remove the LVP/LVT underneath the dishwasher. Did you know you really shouldn’t grind up egg shells in your garbage disposal? I thought just a couple at a time was OK, but it isn’t. When my bonus son took the plastic pipes off the faucet/disposal, one of them had a big old nasty clog of egg shells! And, they are stinky, my friends! Anyway, we got everything done. All I had to do was get rid of the island top with the Karran sink and Delta faucet attached. Needless to say I had changed even though I did very little to help and was probably more in the way than anything.

Thursday – Nigel had physical therapy in the afternoon. Unlike the last time he went to this facility, he only goes for half an hour. I usually read and comment on blogs during that time. But, before that, I worked on four, yes, four pairs of pants. I did an original hem in three of them and just a straight regular old hem in the fourth. I had to figure out how to do that original hem with a couple of the pairs because they had a detail at the bottom that I wanted to preserve. They came out quite well if I do say so myself. I had to get those things done because we needed the card table to eat on! We have a huge old (we ordered it custom made in the early 90s) harvest table. Nigel decided today was the day to move it. So, he unscrewed the legs, and I muscled it into the bedroom. I tell you…that room is absolutely stuffed. I tried to put things in places where I could reach them should I need to do so. I wore this pair of Talbots jeans (one that I had to figure out how to preserve the original hem) along with a fun little striped tee with pumpkins on it from Old Navy. Old Navy has been letting me down lately with their graphic tees. I just haven’t found much there that I like. Maybe, there’s no money to be made, or all that’s needed to say has been said?

Friday – Today was the day, and I was excited! I needed to get up early and shower because I had an appointment for my shots. I was surprised when I took Jack out to do his business. Nigel had moved his SUV out of the garage! Just know he got a bit of a dressing down because he’d actually used his cane to do it. Now, he does very well with the cane, but he has to go down a step into the garage (and back up it). That, in itself, wouldn’t be a big deal. We put up a storm door a couple of years ago to let more light into the house. So, he’d have to hold that door open, keep a hand on his cane, and go down that step. Anyway, he accomplished it without falling so that’s a win! I wore this cute Mummy tee (also from Old Navy), my Halara jeans, and a Nic + Zoe cardigan. I didn’t wear the cardigan for most of the day. The countertop installers showed up kinda on time. We’d been given a window of arrival time, and they were in that window. We only had three pieces of quartz to be installed. That went fairly quickly. The only problem was our sink was on a different truck from the kitchen shop. The kitchen guy arrived with it shortly after I called him. I had to go into Jack’s room (he had to be kept in his room the whole time) because the fumes of whatever they used to seal up space between the cabinets and the tops was awful. I had a headache in no time at all. But, luckily, those fumes soon went away, or my nose went nose-blind. I went to get my shots…on in each arm…when I got back, the guys who were installing the faucet, disposal, and reattaching the dishwasher were there. It’s always fun to watch and learn how things get done. These guys were much more talkative. And, bonus! The one guy was redoing a house and took the countertops we had out in the garage! I’d had several people on Facebook say they wanted them and then flake out. I was almost as glad to have them gone as to have the new ones installed!

Saturday – I was expecting to feel awful today because I always do. I actually didn’t feel too badly when I got up. But, I had this little niggling feeling of something coming on, and by early afternoon, I knew what had been brewing! Without too much TMI, let’s just say I was visiting the loo quite often. I went to the drugstore, thinking I’d visit the Minute Clinic, but it was closed. I picked up some OTC remedy and took some when I got home. Then, after doing a bit of googling, I realized I really needed to see a professional. Like a dummy, I had completely forgotten the hospital that’s a hop, skip, and a jump from us had an Immediate Care clinic. It was open for another hour or so. I headed there as fast as I could. But, before checking in, I had to…well, you know. Anyway, the PA told me, since I’d taken the AZO, the test wouldn’t be 100% accurate, but she prescribed an antibiotic anyway. Of course, I didn’t get the text the meds were ready until 6:50, and the pharmacy closed at 7:00! So, I took another AZO, and I had a good night. I’m sparing you photos of that day. It’s not one I care to repeat ever! I fell asleep before 9:30 and slept fairly well. I got up, took Jack out, and went back to bed. I spent a lot of the time (when I was awake) researching my Songful Style post.

Sunday – I had no intentions of doing anything on this day. In fact, I had two hours of Gallery Conversations scheduled, but I had had to cancel those on Saturday. I knew I wouldn’t be able to walk through the museum for two hours. My son and husband had other plans, though. My oldest showed up later in the afternoon (by then I’d had one dose of the antibiotic and was feeling better) with my youngest granddaughter! Don’t tell anyone, but she’s my mini me except she’s now taller than me! Anyway, my son set about taking up the shoe mold around the kitchen and dining area. Nigel pulled the nails out. Once he had the shoe mold up, Josh started removing the planks. They came up so easily because that’s the nature of the beast. I had the delightful chore of taking those planks out to the garage. So, our kitchen now has no floor…just the subfloor. I have to be careful walking across it as does Nigel. I once again wore my uniform of tee and ON linen shorts. I only poked myself three times!

Monday – After all the excitement and sickness of the weekend, Nigel and I took it easy. I keep forgetting to add things about my blog. I also did two photo shoots, a couple of reels for Instagram, and posted several times over the week. As I write this, Nigel’s napping as is Jack. I feel a bit un-anchored as I really can’t do much in the kitchen right now. I do need to pick out tile for the backsplash. Nigel is campaigning for subway tile, but I don’t think the quartz is a true white. I would love to find a barely green/sage color to pick up some of the veining. I wore my floral horseshoe jeans from Gap with an old mini cable cardigan from Talbots. I tried an Instagram hack for tying my silk square. It worked, but the silk is so slippery. I should probably have pinned it down. I think I really like this look, and these jeans are heavy enough to wear all winter. The only thing is they’re a bit long so they’d get dirty in the snow and mud…hahaha…as if we’ll get snow!

In between…

I knitted a few more of the squares/rectangles for the Christmas blanket. I received an email about a beautiful sweater and am trying to talk myself out of ordering the kit. I’ve also been working on my 70 things to do before I’m 70. Of course, I think of those after turning the laptop off. I should just write them on paper and keep it with me so I can add things as they occur to me. We started “The Gentlemen” which is produced or directed by Guy Ritchie. It’s OK. I think the dude who plays the Lord (as in title not God) is pretty daggone hot. But, the story line really doesn’t interest me. It appears to be something Nigel likes because he hasn’t said anything about stopping it. I think there are only two seasons, thank goodness! We’re caught up on “War,” I think. I’m also caught up on “Halloween Baking Championship.” I finished two books this past week which is unusual for me. I read The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie. Since I knew the murderer was the least expected person, I easily figured it out early on. And, I was right. Then, I moved onto The Correspondent. Y’all, I loved it! I sped through that book in less than 2.5 hours. I think it was the format that did it for me as well as the story. It’s just such a beautifully written book with so many different story lines running through it. I didn’t expect the ending, though. I think it might be my favorite book this year, though, as I glanced through my list on Goodreads, I’m not sure. I really should keep a reading journal because I seldom remember what a book is about months later.

Purchases…

Believe it or not, I didn’t buy any wigs last week. I did, however, buy some things from J Jill. Here’s another instance of buying something and having it go on sale (as in clearance) the next day. If you go back with your receipt, they’ll credit you the difference. Since I don’t go to the mall that often these days, I knew I wouldn’t make it in time. So, I re-ordered the dress I’d bought last week and saved quite a bit. Of course, I ordered other things at deep discount and got free shipping. I took advantage of the 10x points at Nordstrom this weekend and ordered Nigel a pair of Adidas Sambas. I think these low profile shoes will be so much easier for him when he walks. I may have added a pair of Miz Mooz flats for myself! I mean those 10x points really add up! All in all, I didn’t buy much. In fact, I’m considering that for one or two or even three of my 70 things!

What to link up…

Please link up your favorite fashion posts, old and new. Please take the time to visit some of the other bloggers. I’m sure they would appreciate it, and please let them know you are visiting from our link up! I really do thank Amy for being my co-host! Feel free to show us what you’ve been wearing, what you’ve bought, returned, or just thought about. Maybe you could share something you’d love to have but never will for whatever reason. You can tell us…we’ll understand. Tell us about your shopping habits. Do you enjoy thrifting, reselling, or online shopping? Just write a post about fashion of any kind. You could even do a review of an awards show. There are always awards shows, it seems! And, remember, even if you’re a movie reviewer, a baking blog, a book lovers blog, a blog that’s anything but fashion, I’m betting you get dressed. Snap a photo, write a little about it, and link it up! You really don’t have to dress up, either…take a look at my Sunday outfit! Thanks, my friends, for linking up and spreading the news!
