Week 29!
Welcome back for this week’s edition of the Fashion Files, hosted by Amy and me! If you don’t know Amy, her blog is Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa. I hope it’s a beautiful world wherever you are! I woke up to a dreary day, but I happen to like dreary days. The unfortunate thing is it brings down all the beautiful leaves. The kitchen is just about done! I am going to attempt to install the shoe mold…wish me luck! I promise to do a post updating y’all on the renovation. Let me just say, “I LOVE IT!!”
Let’s get this party started!
If you’re a fashion blogger, this is the place to be. It’s the day of the week where I talk about the things I wore last week and what I did as well as anything I might have bought. It’s also the place where you can tell us about what you wore, what you bought, what you wished you’d bought! Please tell your friends about our link party because we’d love to see it grow and grow! I am failing miserably at getting around to everyone’s post. Please continue to link up with us! Life has got to slow down sometime right? So, on with the show! Huzzah!
Last week’s looks…
Tuesday – Nigel had physical therapy in the afternoon. I forgot to add that last Friday, I had moved all the excess furniture out of the dining area. It was either in the living room or the primary bedroom. So, I worked a bit at trying to bring that mess into some kind of order. I also did some blogging, reading, commenting…you know the gist of it. I also did two loads of laundry including a comforter. We are not, technically, supposed to put things on our back porches to dry, but that comforter just needed a little airing! It looked quite nice as a cover for the settee…cough, cough! I wore a new pair of Old Navy Wow Barrel Jeans. These have a bit more structure and are a titch shorter. At first, I didn’t really like them and was going to return them. But, I tried them on again and decided I kinda liked the way they belled out a bit at the bottom. That doesn’t really show in the photo as it’s subtle. You would notice them if you’d bought barrel jeans before. They may also be a bit different because the Wow line isn’t quite a rigid a denim as the OG line is. I wore another Old Navy graphic tee. It says, “Happy Fallidays!”

Wednesday – We had a walk through of Giants with the curator who is now in charge of it. I think I mentioned our Contemporary Core has been researching and writing Art and Artist profiles for the exhibition. This particular curator was not the originator of the exhibition so he is kinda playing catch up and having to do it at high speed. Some of the docents who have really dug into the art were able to tell him more about the art. He was appreciative of that and asked that we forward him any additional information we happened to have. I really like him and have talked to him on occasion. I do believe he’s rather shy and a bit out of his element when it comes to talkative docents (not that you would know any, right). In the evening, I had handbell practice at church. I just cannot get the hang of the particular piece of music we’re doing. I think it’s because the guy who was always to the left of me is only playing bells as a sub. So, one young woman is playing something like five or six bells. I’m just used to following his lead when it comes to rhythms we complete (if that makes any sense). I wore the same outfit from this post: a plum colored sweater with a nifty patterned pair of trousers.

Thursday – I had emailed the guy at the kitchen place and told him we were all ready for flooring whenever they were. Wouldn’t you know…he called on Wednesday to say they’d had an opening and could do it on Thursday! Now, that doesn’t seem like a big deal except part of the contract called for us to have the appliances out of the area. I had to call my daughter and bonus son to come over to “help.” Actually, they did it all! I am so lucky to have my kids close enough to do these things at the last minute. And, to make it even better, the guys would be there between 8:00 and 9:00…as in the morning! So, I got my butt out of bed early and had everything ready to go. Poor Jack had to spend the majority of the day in his room as that’s part of the contract, too. No pets are allowed to be roaming. Anyway, the guys who did the plumbing for the sink and dishwasher turned out to be the floor installers! I was glad to see them because I knew they worked together well and were very conscientious. In fact, they set up a laser to make sure all the seams were perfectly straight. What would have taken Nigel and me about four hours took them about eight or nine! That’s how meticulous they were. And, the floor is gorgeous!! I absolutely love it. They did have to come back on Friday to put in the threshold between the kitchen and the living room. Unfortunately, they needed another piece so it’s not exactly finished. For most of the day, I wore my ON linen shorts with an old chambray shirt. Later, I showered and put on a pair of Loft Rivete jeans with a new lace top. Emma wrote about poet-core recently, and I think this may work for that! Unfortunately for Nigel, he was busy doing a certain kind of prep you do about every five years…IYKYK!

Friday – We had to be at the hospital at 6:15 am so I got up at 5:00. I helped Nigel with his shower. I took Jack out to let him do his business, fed him, and put him back in his kennel. We were back home shortly after 10:00! All is good except for a few polyps which means Nigel gets to do this again in three years. Later in the afternoon, the guys came back to do those threshold strips. I forgot they had to do that Friday rather than Thursday. We’ll be seeing them again in a week or so, I imagine. We spent most of the day doing nothing because one of us was really tired, and the other was still a bit groggy. He kept saying they hit him in recovery. Of course, once he was fully awake, he felt badly he’d accused the people of that. I think people in hospitals must have an extra gene for kindness. I don’t really think I’ve come across one person who is grumpy or shouldn’t be doing that job…wait, I did last spring when Nigel was in for his hip replacement that turned into a spacer being put in. But, I digress! I wore this new pair of J Jill jeans with a linen tee and this Anila cardigan from Gudrun Sjödén.

Saturday – I spent a lot of the day on Saturday cleaning. Some of the LVP we had needed to be cut away with some tool Nigel has. That resulted in very fine dust all over the place. I happily cleaned the counters, admiring the colors in them. Then, I moved on to the microwave and range. We have stainless steel appliances, and I kinda regret that. At our last house, we had a color called Slate which was basically a matte grey finish. I knew I needed as much light reflective surfaces as I could get in this new kitchen so that’s why I went with stainless. I have been using Wegman’s for years on stainless steel, but this time around, I’ve noticed the sheen doesn’t last. And, the appliances seem to attract lots of dust. It could be it was always that way, and this house is configures so that more sun shines through and shows the dust! Anyway, one of the guys who did our floors and sink said he just uses soapy water and then buffs them. I tried that on the microwave. Let’s just say…that approach didn’t work. A woman who worked in the appliance department at Lowe’s once told me they always used Lemon Pledge, and it had to be lemon. So, I’m going to attack the microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher with that this coming weekend. I also cleaned the top of the gas range and put everything back under the sink. BTW, the sink is in the island. That freed up a lot of the clutter in the primary bedroom. It was Halloween so I wore this cute little Mummy graphic tee from ON and my blue pair of Gap horseshoe jeans. We didn’t get a single trick or treater. I kinda miss those days, but our neighbors are a little old to go trick or treating!

Sunday – I had to get up early to be at church at 8:00 because we were ringing handbells. I kept waking up during the night because, of course, it was the time change! My eyes got very heavy at times during the service. Our oldest son has to be the Clark Griswold of his neighborhood! Not only does he light up his entire house during Christmas, he has lots of outdoor lights all year long. One of them is on a pole and has three lights on it. It’s been giving him fits for months now. He and Nigel were Facetiming trying to figure out the problem. I had wanted to go to the mall to do some returning as well as use up one last birthday coupon. The mall is sort of on the way there or back. Nigel suggested I take him to Josh’s and then go on to the mall. As we were driving, I suggested I just wait around and gab with my bonus daughter and youngest granddaughter. When we left, we could drop by the mall, and I could do the returns as well as use my coupon. So, that’s exactly what we did. Of course, it didn’t really go exactly like that. Earlier in the day, I thought we had decided to skip the mall and go another day. I took a nap instead. Nigel came in to wake me up so we could head to Josh’s. At first, I was just going to wear what I had put on…my favorite raggedy old hooded sweatshirt and jeans. Then, I thought better of it and changed into the ON jeans with this pumpkin (appropriate, right) top from Banana Republic. I’m glad I did because everyone was dressed up at the mall! Of course, I also had to finish my Style Imitating Art post. Luckily, I had done most of the research, read through it, and had the bones of the post done. I did the photo shoot after church!

Monday – When I tell you changing clocks either way messes with my circadian rhythms, I’m not joking. I’m still tired! Nigel had an appointment for his flu and Covid shots later in the afternoon. I helped him with his shower, then I took mine. As we were waiting, I started bringing the shoe mold out of the primary bedroom and tried to figure out Josh’s system. I think I have it figured out, and Nigel is confident I can use the air nailer to nail everything in place. I, however, am not quite as confident! We had a discussion about whether or not to put the shoe molding back around the refrigerator and stove. The thing is you can’t see it at all because both of those appliances are so tightly wedged into place. I’m not sure how they ever went in in the first place! I finally told Nigel we would keep the shoe molding, but I wasn’t putting it back in because I wasn’t going to argue with the appliances. We then had a laugh because he suggested we stick it up behind the cove molding around the upper cabinets. I told him we would never think of looking there for it should we ever need it. He laughed and agreed. But, I think that’s exactly what I’m going to do with it! So, I guess someone is going to learn how to install shoe molding on Tuesday! I wore another pair of light wash ON jeans with the brown Lintico Kalista top. I thought about wearing a scarf, but I was already warm from toting that wood trim in and out of the bedroom! I did put on some jewelry, though. Later, I had a Worship & Music meeting at the church. I am the secretary and always have the minutes prepped so I just have to insert things we talk about. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

In between…
I’m still knitting those blocks. I’m considering this beautiful sweater kit. The problem? It’s very expensive, and y’all know how I am about finishing things! I think I’m going to splurge (hahaha) and get it, though. Most of the week was spent getting ready for the flooring even though I didn’t really know we’d get it this week. Did I happen to mention I LOVE IT? I finished The Haunting of Payne’s Hollow which was a bit of a wild ride. I started Size 12 Is Not Fat. It’s not quite what I envisioned, but I’m only about 1/3 of the way in so we’ll see what happens. We’re still watching “The Gentlemen.” It’s not really very gentlemanly at all! I’m not sure what we’ll watch next. Any suggestions?

What I purchased…
I used up almost all of my birthday coupons Saturday! There were a few I didn’t use and didn’t even consider…looking at you, Garnet Hill. It irks me when they send me a birthday discount, but I have to pay shipping (and it’s high). To add insult to injury, if I’ve looked at something on their site, they then send me a free shipping code! I can’t, however, use both at the same time! I ordered a sweater from Boden, but it’s too big, and I don’t like the colors. So, I re-ordered it in a smaller size in the colors I wanted originally (I don’t think they had them when I ordered the first time). I also went to Brighton which I haven’t been into until just recently and bought a cool necklace and earrings. They’re having some kind of insider event next weekend, but I could use that along with my birthday coupon. I ordered a cashmere sweater from Talbots with my birthday discount. I ordered Nigel a pair of Adidas sneakers because of their slim profile. He has a problem with his shoes’ heels being too thick and wide. They bump against each other which causes him to stumble. They aren’t wide enough. At the same time, I also ordered a pair of Miz Mooz flats that are actual shoes for later this year when I can’t wear the open backs. I also ordered something from April Cornell with my birthday discount, but I don’t remember what it was. I’ll just be surprised when it shows up.
What to link up…
Please link up your favorite fashion posts, old and new. Please take the time to visit some of the other bloggers. I’m sure they would appreciate it, and please let them know you are visiting from our link up! I really do thank Amy for being my co-host! Feel free to show us what you’ve been wearing, what you’ve bought, returned, or just thought about. Maybe you could share something you’d love to have but never will for whatever reason. You can tell us…we’ll understand. Tell us about your shopping habits. Do you enjoy thrifting, reselling, or online shopping? Just write a post about fashion of any kind. You could even do a review of an awards show. There are always awards shows, it seems! And, remember, even if you’re a movie reviewer, a baking blog, a book lovers blog, a blog that’s anything but fashion, I’m betting you get dressed. Snap a photo, write a little about it, and link it up! You really don’t have to dress up, either…take a look at my Sunday outfit! Thanks, my friends, for linking up and spreading the news!

Oh my goodness Marsha!! I love reading of your goings-on, what a whirlwind. I have to say I love that pumpkin top on you.
