Fashion Files!

Welcome back to this week’s edition of the Fashion Files, hosted by Amy and me! If you don’t know Amy, her blog is Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa. Unbelievably, I am approaching my fifth anniversary as a blogger. I think I probably missed the heyday of fashion blogging, but there are still some good old-fashioned link parties still around. They do seem to be slowly disappearing. When Jill and Kellyann ended the Fashion Files, I invited Amy to join me for this link up. If you’re a fashion blogger, please spread the word because we’d like this little link party to grow and grow!

Last week’s looks…

Tuesday – Oh, this was such a good day. I finally had a facial. I hadn’t had one since February. My aesthetician always massages my scalp so it’s a no makeup, no hair kinda day. I wore this gorgeous button up with a print that’s very reminiscent of William Morris. These are either Old Navy or Loft jeans and are a bit baggy. My face is shiny because of the sunscreen I use. I’m faithful about wearing it to keep the brown spots from returning. My facial was so good that I fell asleep at one point.

Wednesday – I cleaned house! When Nigel’s hip revision didn’t go as planned, I pushed all the furniture out of the way. The sofa was back against the hutch. The hutch is in our living room because our dining area is too small. Anyway, I deep cleaned everything except for Jack’s room and rearranged the living room. I still had Christmas candles out so I replaced those with spring flavors. Then, after I finished, I showered and put on this Gudrun Sjödén dress. It’s a wee bit mumsy so when I wear it out, I definitely zhuzh it up with jewelry, a scarf, or a slip. I discovered these fun sheer socks at Old Navy and find they’re actually warm.

Thursday – Another stay at home day. I did get some plants in the ground, but then Nigel told me we were under a frost watch. That put a halt to planting any more of them. I showered and put on another of jeans…Loft or Old Navy. I bought this sweater last summer at Old Navy (100% cotton) and usually wear it with linen pants. Even though it’s an open weave, I was warm enough in the house.

Friday – I had a grocery pick up and really didn’t do much of anything that day. It was still too cold to plant so I worked on a sweater I’ve been crocheting. I wore a pair of Old Navy Jeans, a black Luxe tee from Old Navy, and this fun cardigan from Nic + Zoe. I’m finding, with this link party, I’m putting more effort into getting dressed every day. Hahaha! Maybe, I should say I’m dressing in something other than old ratty yoga pants and a sweatshirt.

Saturday – I Swiffered the house, used Roomba, and worked on the blog. It was prom, and my oldest granddaughter was going! She came over to show off her beautiful dress. She had a wonderful time with her friends. I wore this Shadow cardigan from Gudrun Sjödén. Do you recognize the tee? It’s a couple of years old. I wore it with the matching pants in this post. Unfortunately, the pants are now too big. But, who would have thought a tee from Loft would match a cardigan from Gudrun Sjödén almost perfectly? These are a slim wide leg jean from Old Navy. Does anyone think that’s a bit of an oxymoron besides me?

Sunday – One of my good docent friends asked me to go to a play. Her husband was one of the actors in it. I love live theatre so I jumped at the chance. One of my first questions to her was, “What should I wear?” I didn’t want to wear jeans, and everyone else was all dressed up. It turned out there were people dressed in all manner of clothing. This was a neighborhood theatre, and all the actors were also local to the area. The play was “Kiss Me, Kate,” and it was wonderful! I think I had a goofy smile on my head the whole time because I was really having such a good time. I wore this ruffled white button up from Old Navy, the Madeline cardigan from Garnet Hill, and yet another pair of jeans. These are from very early this spring or very late last winter and are from Talbots.

Monday – Nigel had his appointment with the surgeon. Everything is a go for surgery in about 2.5 weeks. He will have fluid withdrawn tomorrow (probably as you’re reading this) to check for any bacteria. Please cross whatever ya got that all those bacteria were killed by the antibiotics! He will definitely have surgery. The only question is will it be a hip replacement or another spacer infused with antibiotics. Let me just say I love his surgeon. He is personable, funny, and yet he takes what he does very seriously. I never feel rushed when we see him. I always go in with a list of questions, and he takes all the time I need to answer them. I am so close to being 100% certain Nigel will be walking for our 50th anniversary which is in a few weeks. I also attended a fun event at my church. We had a Ladies Nite Out and made beaded garden stakes. I’m not sure if they will hold up to the weather so I think I’ll just put mine in plants in the house. I recently got this Crepe Sari Ruffle Daisy Blouse from Kantha Bae as well as this white Lace Halftee. The blouse just ties in front so I added the Halftee for both warmth and coverage. The jeans are those slim wide leg ones from Old Navy. Oh, and I popped on my hair topper. Y’all, I’m not kidding when I say this is the hair I was meant to have. I just feel so good when I wear it.

What to link up…

Please link up your favorite fashion posts, old and new. Please take the time to visit some of the other bloggers. I’m sure they would appreciate it, and please let them know you are visiting from our link up! A huge thanks to Jill and Kellyann for agreeing to let us host this new “old” link party. And, an even bigger thanks to Amy for being my co-host! In case you’re not sure about what to post, I’ve actually stolen some of Amy’s Monday post (thanks, Amy): “You can show one outfit you’ve worn or multiple outfits you’ve worn. You can talk about clothing, shoes, accessories, undergarments, swimwear, brands you stand by, thrifting, online shopping, in person shopping – whatever you want to talk about that involves fashion.

I have had a few comment that they aren’t fashionable and I say to that “pish posh”. Just show us what you’ve worn!” I love that…you don’t have to be dressed to the nines (look at what I’ve worn) to link up!

You can link up at Amy’s site for now as I don’t have the link button yet.

  1. My favorite outfit is the Saturday.
I’ll return to crossing my fingers for Nigel now. Good luck!

  2. Fingers crossed for Nigel. Love the Sunday look.

  3. Hello Marsha,
I’m still living in Jeans too as our weather here in the UK is so flip floppy – warm one morning and cool in the afternoon or visa versa.
Love that pretty cardi with the flowers on.
Sending best wishes for Nigel and hope all goes well.

  4. Marsha, you are so cute in all of these outfits! I am really enjoying this link party and I’m so happy that you and Amy were able to take it over. I will be praying for y’all in 2.5 weeks! I hope Nigel’s surgery goes exactly how you need it to go!

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I’m glad you’re linking up with us! I am trying to manifest it as hard as possible along with praying every night and wishing upon stars. I’m almost 100% confident it will be life changing for him.

  5. Great looks Marsha, even without makeup! Love the pink sneakers. Thanks for hosting the party!

    • You are welcome, Nancy! I love these sneakers though they’re not as comfortable yet as my others. I like to keep it real here…and that face is as real as I’m going to get!

  6. That bold printed cardigan is so pretty on you! Always looking fabulous. Thanks for the link up!

  7. Your cardigan collection is so lovely! Fun to see you in more jeans looks with the Fashion Files posts.

    • Thanks so much, Sally! I have a huge collection, but a lot of them date back to my teaching days. I’m glad you’re enjoying the Fashion Files!

  8. Love all your fashions Marsha! Talking of jeans I found an old photo of my sister and I from years ago and I have a pair of wide leg jeans on (which we called flares) and just this week I bought a pair of very similar style jeans top travel with. Everything comes around again doesn’t it?? All the best for Nigel, fingers crossed it all goes well.

    • Thanks, Debbie! I’ve been trying to find the perfect 1970s jeans, and so far, I haven’t found them. I love my wide leg jeans, but they’re not quite the same. I wonder if I have any old photos around. I should look. Thanks so much for the well wishes!

  9. I am loving this new series! Your outfits this time of year look a lot like the kine of outfits I pull together too. Casual jeans with lightweight sweaters and/or long sleeve tops.

    • Thanks, Joanne! I think a lot of people probably think I’m always wearing dresses. I do wear more in the summer, but it’s usually jeans and a sweater for me!

  10. Dear Marsha, I like the look of Saturday most….haha, there are my colours in it (violet or purple). Very nice look.
I added the susbribe bottons to my blog that you had been looking for.
Have a good time and all the best
    Violetta

  11. You have such a pretty cardigan collection! I especially love the one you wore on Friday!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • Thanks, Jill! I don’t even want to tell you how many cardigans I have! It’s an embarrassing number, I’m sure!

  12. It’s always fun to hear what you’ve been up to, Marsha, and to see what you are wearing when you do it. I’m afraid my daily outfits would be pretty boring for the most part. My gym clothes are the most exciting things I wear these days.

    • Thank you, Christie! Well, you’ve got something pretty big and amazing coming up so I think gym clothes are certainly appropriate and exciting!

  13. Hi, Marsha – You are so high energy! My husband is, too, and my daughter takes after him. My son and I are pretty laid back. When I’m not going out anywhere, I often end up in my yoga outfit from my morning practice. I’ve learned how to pair something interesting on the top or bottom that I can enjoy all day and then I add my favorite accessories: usually a pashmina and a Q-link pendant along with my turquoise ring and magnetic silver arm bracelets that I never take off. Prayers for a perfect outcome for Nigel. Take

    • Thank you, Angie! That’s funny you say that because I think I’m really lazy! I just have to be doing something all the time which isn’t necessarily productive! I think you probably look quite stylish with your signature accessories. And, thank you for the prayers. We will take them all!

  14. My message didn’t get completed. Lol! Take care, Marsha – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

  15. I love seeing what you’re wearing every day! I really should start doing something like this, to encourage me to make a bit more of an effort lol! I’m usually in jeans but I suppose I could just dress them up a bit!
I hope Nigel’s appointment went well!
    Big hugs
    Suzy xx

    • Thanks, Suzy! It really has made me get dressed when I would rather lounge around in scruffy pants and a tee! Mike’s appointment went very well as did the procedure for withdrawing fluids!

      • Oh I’m so pleased to hear that, Marsha!!
        Big hugs
        Suzy
PS. You left me a comment somewhere about coming over and being a guest but now I can’t find it to reply lol. OH MY GOSH….I would LOVE for you to come and stay! Just say the word!!!! xxx

        • Seriously? Suzy? I could come and visit and stay with you? Maybe later this fall after I’m sure Mike can walk and take care of himself (and the dog) OK? Oh, I would love to visit you and Portugal (and maybe swim in that beautiful pool)!

  16. I think you do jeans outfits so well! You make me want to go get a colorful pair of Adidas because I love my neutral ones so much. It’s been chilly but a good opportunity to wear the sweaters and jeans, you know? I like how you told us what you did in each outfit.
I am so happy that things are progressing for Mike/Nigel to be ambulatory again. You have been such a trooper.
I love that you went to a community theatre. We don’t have a small one that I know of, but I would love to try out for a play. But, then, I wouldn’t want to be out every night practicing so there’s that.

    • Thanks, Amy! I have so many jeans and so many tops. I grew up in the late 60s and 70s when we couldn’t wear jeans at first. So, jeans are kinda sacred to me. And, I love my Adidas sneakers. They are comfortable, and I wear them to the museum with my long dresses. I’m not sure if I’ll wear them once I wear shorter dresses. I don’t know that I’m a trooper so much as I’m stubborn! I honestly didn’t know about this theatre. My friend’s husband was acting in it. I loved it. You would be wonderful in a play, I’m sure! But, I’m the same way. I’m becoming more and more of a homebody!

  17. I love those outfits! That one pink sweater is so nice on you! It was fun to read about all you’ve had going on and what you read while doing it.

Sounds like you were busy even on the days you weren’t. ha!

    • Thanks so much, Lisa! It is really a great sweater, and I might have it in another color. But, I bought that one last year! I’m really enjoying this series, but it’s tough remembering to take that photo!
