Fashion Files and A Link Party

Week 25!

Welcome back for this week’s edition of the Fashion Files, hosted by Amy and me! If you don’t know Amy, her blog is Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa. Wow! That was a fast week! I did quite a bit done as you’ll see. Thanks to Rena for telling me why I’m getting that “nonce” error. The weather here in Central Indiana is just perfect, and I’m happy about it! Warm, sunny days are followed by cool, crisp nights. I also like the shorter days. There’s just something about the coziness of this time of year.

Let’s get this party started!

If you’re a fashion blogger, this is the place to be. It’s the day of the week where I talk about the things I wore last week and what I did as well as anything I might have bought. It’s also the place where you can tell us about what you wore, what you bought, what you wished you’d bought! Please tell your friends about our link party because we’d love to see it grow and grow! I will try to get to your blogs this week! So, on with the show! Huzzah!

Last week’s looks…

Tuesday – Nigel had a physical therapy appointment later in the afternoon so I was able to get caught up on blogging matters. I worked outside for a bit. My red twig dogwoods have some kind of something going on so I had to spray them with a copper fungicide. One looks like it’s bit the dust already, but there’s still some growth on it. I just love these bushes. We had them at our second home, and I loved them then. So, when it came time to find bushes for the hump, I knew I was putting those in! I just hope I can save them. After showering, I put on these Old Navy jeans and a Gudrun Sjödén top. My hair looks really funky in this photo. I think it’s because the fashion colors are only on the top layers of my hair so it looks even more thin than usual.

Wednesday – I had a meeting at the church and wore a new wig. I have this wig in a different color. I call her Donna because she looks like one of my church friends (whose name is Donna), and she’s hard working (like my friend). I knew this one would need a name so I call her Brenda, Donna’s slightly naughty cousin! That got a hoot out of everyone! The meeting ran very long so I’m glad I was comfortable. You never know if the church will be warm or cold. I wore these really cute embroidered jeans from Old Navy, a very old sleeveless April Cornell top, and a J Jill cardigan. As y’all know, I’ve been busily cleaning out my closet using Amy’s dog poop test. Not sure what that is? Well, if my dog pooped on it, would I be upset? If the answer is no, get rid of it. You’d be amazed at how easy that makes it for me to get rid of something! Weird, right? Now, I’m trying to decide if the one huge pile I’ve got goes to Thred Up or just donate it and be done with it. The thing is…that pile is full of Talbots, J Jill, and other good brands. What do you think?

Thursday – I had two hours of gallery conversations at the museum this day. The first hour was spent in Giants. I am still completely blown away by the beauty, variety, and scale of this collection. Not every piece is my cup of tea, of course, but it can and does spark conversation. That’s one of our goals as docents…talk about the art and see it from different perspectives. I wore this Gudrun Sjödén dress with a dark slip underneath. This really doesn’t photograph well, does it? It looks a bit like a schmata. My friend taught me that word, and I will forever use it to describe a dress that looks a bit like a housecoat (gotta be old to get that reference). In person, I think it looks better, but I do think adding a belt might help. This was a First Thursday so the art museum was hopping! First Thursdays are free (except for the Giants exhibition) so we get lots of homeschooling families as well as people who only come on that day. I completely get it…some days, you have to choose between food and the museum. Food is gonna win every time. I’m just glad the museum offers this free day so people can come and see some amazing art. You would be amazed at how many people ask me, “Is it real?” Yes, the answer is always yes. But, I do also tell them to read the didactic. Some pieces are from the “Workshop of…” which means they were painted in some artist’s workshop who was famous. Maybe, they dabbed a bit of paint here; maybe they didn’t!

Friday – Nigel wasn’t feeling well so he cancelled his p/t appointment. I decided I needed to counter that less than happy situation with dressing up. I wore a Tulip Clothing Celine dress in Almond and this fun wig. It’s a bit of a face flopper so I have to keep pushing just a few strands back off my face. This is one I receive so many compliments on (yes, I know that ended in a preposition). I’m not sure why because it’s just a blunt cut little lob. But, I’ll take the compliments any day. I relaxed during the day…hahaha…I started moving things around for the great pumpkinication coming the next day! Next to Christmas, or maybe even the same as Christmas, I love decorating for Fall. And, I’m definitely a maximalist when it comes to those two holidays! I did some laundry, finished up my closet only to pull more things out to further winnow items, and emptied the dishwasher…just in case you don’t think I do anything around the house! I added just a titch more to the front porch. I don’t really decorate for Halloween, though.

Saturday – This has been an unusual year for me. I almost always start my fall decorating on or just before September 1st. This year, that date came and went. I had no desire to even look at a pumpkin let alone dig them out of all the different places. But, on Saturday, I combined a deep cleaning with decorating. It’s kinda like a domino game. I have four or five tubs I rescued from the “dumpster” when I was teaching. We had these really nice rolling carts, and the blue tubs fit right in them. They contained our science materials. When we adopted a new science curriculum, these carts/tubs were going to go in the trash! Teachers were invited to rescue some so I grabbed one. I surely wish I’d grabbed a couple more because they are really handy. Anyway, I hauled the tubs in, emptied them, and filled them with the stuff that was already out. Makes sense, right? But, it takes a while to get things clean and dusted, packed away, then rearranged with the new pumpkins. I also dug out my fall candles. I have scads of Bath and Body Works candles. I won’t need to buy any new ones for years! I wore my work uniform of a tee and ON shorts for almost the entire days. Then, I showered and put on my pajamas!

Sunday – I forgot to mention I had been doing my research for Monday’s Style Imitating Art post all week. It’s funny how an obscure artist can still have so much information out there! Luckily, I’d done a photo shoot last week that worked for the art. I went to Old Navy later in the day to return some items. I purchased this wrap top in several different sizes before landing on the right size…Large Tall! I still want a nicer one from Wool &, but they’re out of stock right now. I don’t know if my hair is growing from the Minoxidil or what, but this was the first day in weeks that I actually liked the way my hair turned out. I just hope it continues to be amenable to looking good. I wore a Kantha Bae Shorty Spellbound kimono over a v-neck ON tee and ON jeans. I worked on the blog almost all day except for the trip to ON. Oh, wait! I went to Menards to get Jack some doggy treats. Then, I went home, hoping Nigel would want to get dinner out. Alas and alack, he did not so I had to cook! We had spaghetti, and I wore a dish towel as a bib! It never fails when I wear a white tee that I get spaghetti sauce on it.

Monday – Ahh, a day of rest! I forgot to mention I also had to crawl up into the attic and down into the crawl space to gather all my fall stuff. My legs are still screaming at me! I spent the day reading blogs, commenting on them, and writing this post. Every week, I tell myself I need to start this on Tuesday and add to it every day. Obviously, I don’t do that! I did douse the red twig dogwoods with the antifungal and then hurried up and took a shower. I also wear a mask. That stuff travels, and I’m taking no chances. I wore my Halara asymmetrical waistline jeans and an old Talbots button up that reminds me of a William Morris print.

The pumpkin patch…

In between…

I have finished the number of squares needed…for one pattern! But, I’m going to keep going on this one! It won’t be finished for this Christmas, but it will be for the next one. We finished “Practical Magic” and moved on to “Hacks.” I thought we’d seen the last season, but we hadn’t. I can’t decide if I really, really like it, or if I’m just mid about it. I do love Jean Smart, and I think she’s aged so beautifully. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s had some work done, but whoever did it knew exactly when to stop. I don’t particularly like Hannah Einbinder’s character. I’m not sure why. She just seems whiny to me. I do love Jimmy and Kayla, though! I love the way Kayla takes up all the space and makes it glow! I’ve been watching the “Halloween Baking Championship” when Nigel’s asleep. I don’t particularly like the new way they’re doing it, but, hey, they didn’t ask me! I’ve been plugging away on my artist’s report for the Giants exhibition. I just couldn’t find all the information I need, and then I remembered the curator’s discussion about it. I’m going to reread my notes to see if I can get some answers there. We are still waiting for an installation date for either the flooring, the countertops, or both. I have emptied out the bottom of the island so I won’t have to do that at the last minute. I keep the door closed to the primary bedroom because it’s all in there!

Purchases…

OK, I really needed retail therapy this week! At least, that’s what I’m blaming it on! I bought two more wigs, some ON jeans, and another Farm Rio skirt…none of which have arrived. I also bought a few things from Sylca Designs and some fun socks from Sock Candy. Again, I haven’t received those yet. Y’all will think I’m foolish because I bought even more pumpkins from Mackenzie Childs! All of the ones I currently have are in the classic black/ivory colors. I decided to inject some color with some small ones…and I had a coupon!

What to link up…

Please link up your favorite fashion posts, old and new. Please take the time to visit some of the other bloggers. I’m sure they would appreciate it, and please let them know you are visiting from our link up! I really do thank Amy for being my co-host! Feel free to show us what you’ve been wearing, what you’ve bought, returned, or just thought about. Maybe you could share something you’d love to have but never will for whatever reason. You can tell us…we’ll understand. Tell us about your shopping habits. Do you enjoy thrifting, reselling, or online shopping? Just write a post about fashion of any kind. You could even do a review of an awards show. There are always awards shows, it seems! And, remember, even if you’re a movie reviewer, a baking blog, a book lovers blog, a blog that’s anything but fashion, I’m betting you get dressed. Snap a photo, write a little about it, and link it up! You really don’t have to dress up, either…take a look at my Sunday outfit! Thanks, my friends, for linking up and spreading the news!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

  2. I get tired just reading of your full week 😀
It’s wonderful that the museum has one free day, you are right, everyone should be able to have access to art and online is not the same as seeing it with your own eyes.

  3. What a full week and you look so pretty in all your photos! Love your colored hair! Thanks for hosting Marsha xoxox

  4. What a busy week. I love seeing all the pumpkins in your house. I also enjoy the different wigs, I have got used to seeing you in different ones now.

  5. Hello Marsha, another busy week for you.
Love the Brenda wig and that she’s the Donna wigs naughty cousin.
Your pumpkin decorations look fab. I just carve a pumpkin, put a candle in it and place it in the window.
Hope Nigel continues to make progress with his physical therapy and you keep well

  6. I really like your colorful hair! Your natural color is beautiful too, and something I’m hoping I will get once my hair is finally totallt grey.

  7. Such a full and busy week! You have lots of pretty outfits. I enjoyed seeing the house all decorated for fall.

  8. I finally switched out my decor this Sunday and decluttered our 3rd floor: it feels more put together now and I even dusted and vaccumed. I need to take some blog pictures this week. We have a busy school week before our fall break and I have to keep track of picking who at what time as well as my mom’s appointments. So far so good: nobody has been forgotten. My youngest has a pretty bad ear infection that hopefully the ear drops will help: it’s not often that our little home remedy doesn’t work but this time a visit to the doc was warranted.
