Week 16!
Welcome back for this week’s edition of the Fashion Files, hosted by Amy and me! If you don’t know Amy, her blog is Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa. I hope this post finds you well. Oh, my gosh, y’all! We had rain this weekend…did we have rain! Some people in town said they got eight inches, and I’m not at all surprised. It poured for such a long time, took a break, and poured some more. Our yard is still squishy! I’m so glad I mowed it on Friday (or maybe Thursday). If you’re a fashion blogger, this is the place to be. It’s the day of the week where I talk about the things I wore last week and what I did as well as anything I might have bought. It’s also the place where you can tell us about what you wore, what you bought, what you wished you’d bought! Please tell your friends about our link party because we’d love to see it grow and grow! I try to visit everyone’s blog who links up, but for some reason, I can’t leave comments. If you don’t see a comment, please know I’ve visited, but I just can’t comment. I have seen other bloggers mentioning they were having problems with Google. I guess that means it isn’t just me. So, let’s get the shenanigans going, right? This whole commenting thing has me flummoxed. If I try to go through Inlinkz, it redirects me to another page which sends me to your blog which then won’t let me comment. Gotta love technology, right?
Last week’s looks…
Tuesday – Nigel had physical therapy in the afternoon so I spent the morning doing some blogging, and the never ending cleaning. I helped Nigel with his shower then took mine. I wore these Tulip Clothing gauze palazzo pants in aqua with a J Jill linen top (yes, I have the dress in the same print). The colors aren’t exactly right, but I feel like they go.
Wednesday – My two oldest grands went back to work so I spent some time sending my daughter photos of their first days at preschool. It’s so hard to believe they’re young adults. They looked beautiful and handsome, but I’m probably biased. I also worked on a blog post for a book review and an outfit. It seems like I just seem to be doing fashion challenges and link ups. It’s like I’ve gotten away from my original intent. I wore a new Tulip Clothing Lennon dress in Sage Stripe. I notice she’s having a sale on gauze, but that may be over by the time I publish this. I’m telling you…subscribe to her newsletter. She has such good clothing and frequent sales. I love everything I’ve bought from Debbie. And, no, I bought these clothes with my own money! I think I went somewhere, but I cannot for the life of me remember where!
Thursday – I needed to do a reel for Halftee so I wore this cute floral apron dress with the light blue Halftee. I have to tell you I am completely sold on them now. They are so light and reduce the bulk of a regular tee. I also have to admit I started that daggone reel eleventy million times! There may have been a few cusses in there, too, when I’d flub a line! Nigel had physical therapy again that afternoon. I also finished my Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot post.
Friday – Surprise! Another Tulip Clothing dress! This is another Poppie dress. I love these dresses and would buy one in every style if I had the room in my closet! I had a grocery pickup that I forgot about until I checked my texts! Whoops! I picked it up a little bit late. I feel so badly because I have been picking up my groceries for quite a while and not giving them tips. This Friday, I was completely out of cash so I felt really bad. I usually have the same person so I’ll give him double this week. We have $2.00 in points for gas this month! Oh, and this is the really big thing! Nigel wanted to go out…as in actually go out for lunch! We ended up at Olive Garden. I had gnocchi soup and loved every bite. Later that day, I went to a kitchen remodeling place, fell in love with several different quartz options, and made an appointment for the designer to come to give me an estimate for the counters and the floors. That night is when it began raining. I love the sound of rain, don’t you!
Saturday – I went with my youngest son and his partner, along with her sweet little ones, to buy school supplies. My grands don’t need them anymore so it was fun, once again, to buy crayons, markers, book bags, and the like. I wore a very old April Cornel dress that may actually be a tunic. I am so happy these two have found each other and created this little family.
Sunday – A lazy day at home…I took a nap, listed a few Gudrun things on the Gudrun page on Facebook and sold three right away. Jack overate because I’d spilled lots of his food on the floor. I didn’t realize just how much he’d eaten until he started moaning and groaning. I had to take him out for walks until he was able to eliminate some of that pressure…hahaha! I actually stayed in my pajamas all day long since I was working on things inside, and it was raining outside!
Monday – I met one of my docent besties at the museum to practice her Colleague Feedback tour. We’re both VTS docents so, just like me, her Feedback tour will be VTS. We also asked a legacy docent to critique our tours. I hadn’t really prepared much for this because I have until the end of August. Her is this coming Saturday. I wore a pair of Loft wide leg pangs with one of my trusty striped Talbots tanks under a cotton Garnet Hill cardigan. I tied it all together with a straw belt. Something about it just doesn’t ring right with me. All the colors are in the pattern of the pants, but I don’t know… Later that evening, I had a church meeting that ran for three hours. I felt really badly leaving Nigel and Jack alone all that time. Poor Jack just has to wait until I’m there to go outside. Nigel isn’t steady enough on his walker for when those daggone bunnies go crashing across our yard. You can be sure Jack sees them and dearly wants to catch them! He doesn’t have a hope, though!
In between…
I’ve been knitting little Christmas squares that will be assembled into a small blanket. It’s in red and cream wool (go IU). The only problem is I have to knit the same squares several times. I tend to get bored with doing the same thing over and over. I think the difference with this project is that I’m doing colorwork, which I love. I’ve also been planning more DIY in the house. But, what I’ve learned is planning and doing are two completely different things. I think I have to wait until the new flooring and countertops are installed to see if my plan works. I’m kinda thinking the quartz tops may be too “fancy” for my primitive country heart. But, yin and yang work together so maybe this will, too. I’m also really digging deep into practicing my Colleague Feedback tour. I have a couple of assignments coming up so I can practice them on real tours, too! I cut back my wave petunias big time as they’d kinda fried during the recent heat wave. They’re already recovering and looking quite nice.
Purchases…
I admit it…I bought a back up pair of the Miz Mooz Farrah flats in the cream color as well as in the black! They were on sale with an additional percentage off. I also bought some more Tulip Clothing dresses. Right now, she has a huge sale going on with free shipping! I have loved everything I’ve purchased from Tulip Clothing, and I think you would, too! I received a gigantic order from Gudrun Sjödén which I had placed in March. Every once in a while, I’ll receive an invitation to shop early for a later season with a discount. I take advantage of that in a big way. This time, while I did buy a couple of dresses, I focused on basics like turtlenecks and slips! Gudrun’s turtlenecks are wonderful! I do size up in them because her tops seem to run just a skosh smaller than dresses.

Wow, back to school already, here the kids finally ended for the summer on July 22nd! Different places, different systems!
I would love to have the rain, we are officially in a drought and haven’t had a drop since early June and all the rain clouds keep breaking up and disappearing. It does mean I get the washing dried outside each day, but I am hauling water for the plants in cans as we have a hosepipe ban. I like the look of the cotton knit cardigan. Cotton knit sounds good, I shall look out for it.
Yes, they have what is called a balanced calendar so they get two weeks off in October, two off in December/January, and two off in March/April. They get out usually the last week of May. But, they don’t have as long a summer break as my old school corporation did. It’s become the thing to start school early in August for some silly reason.
I heard the UK was having a drought and wildfires. It’s a strange year, indeed. I have two of these cotton cardigans and love them. They’re heavy enough to keep me warm, but then they’re “ventilated” to keep me from getting too warm!
Those are all nice except the white dress…it looks like a nightie from the old TV series The Walton’s.

Lots of cute summery looks this week! We’ve had lots of rain too though thankfully ours has been spread out between several days off and on so the ground isn’t quite as saturated.
Thank you, Joanne! I was shocked when I heard how much we got even though I knew it had to be quite a lot. But, our ground is already dry…it was definitely thirsty. It makes me wonder how long we’ll go before it rains again.

Oh rain? What is rain? And this is rainy old England I’m speaking about! We are in an awful drought with weeks and weeks of no rain. All grassy areas in the south are straw like and brown now and we are having wildfires, not as bad as Canada but it is awful nevertheless for those who live near them.
I absolutely adore your Poppie dress – the colour and the entire dress is fab. And you look really good in it.
Penny, I was so surprised to read the UK was having some wildfires, too! Wow! I was listening to a woman speaking about wildfires in the state of Washington where she lived, and I thought, “That could happen here, too.” It’s just such a shame countries, companies and so many others deny the existence of climate change. I just hope we aren’t over the precipice already.
Now, onto my dress! Would you believe I almost didn’t buy it because I thought it might be too much? Who am I? This style is just so comfortable and flattering, too!
We were grateful for our downpour late last week, too! I often wonder what it will be like to see my grandkids all grown up… It must be a full circle moment, for sure! I really liked the addition of the straw belt to your outfit. Accessories can be so important and I always forget about that piece, especially since retiring! Thank you, Laura! It honestly feels like they were toddlers just yesterday. I think you will find you have different conversations and interactions, but they will still be your grands just a little bit bigger. Thanks for the input about the belt. I think that was one of the things I questioned. I thought it worked, but then I wondered!

They get lots of time off during the year, and they don’t really know anything different. I loved having all of June, July, and August when I was a kid. I do hope it cools off and you get rain soon, Nancy!
I can’t believe it’s back to school time already! This summer flew by. Oh my gosh, I love every single outfit in this post. That bright tulip print dress is so gorgeous! Of course, the print and bold color palette really appeals to me. I feel like all I’ve been doing on my blog is style challenges and link parties, too.
