Fun and Flirty with Clara Sunwoo!

High Rise Scrunch Pocket Gaucho Pant

When Clara Sunwoo reaches out to me, I’m always thrilled. It was a little difficult, I’ll admit, this go round because I’m sort of thinking fall clothing. But, I always thought the print on these pants was fun. These are the High Rise Scrunch Pocket Gaucho Pant in Water Floral. Remember, I’m only 5’1″ (on a good day) so these are more ankle length on me.

Proportionizing…

One of the things most of us do, sometimes without even realizing it, is to make sure we are sticking to the right proportions. Generally speaking, you want a 1/3 to 2/3 proportion with your clothing. That means, when you’re looking at the outfit, either the top or the bottom should be 1/3, and the other part should be 2/3. It can be the top or the bottom. I sized up with this top and probably shouldn’t have. It kind of overwhelms me and wants to slide down my body rather than staying up a little higher. I end up with more of a half and half proportion which isn’t ideal. But, make no mistake, this Modal Cotton Funnel Neck Side Cinched Top is very nice and will get a lot of wear!

The real deal…

Here’s the thing. I’m not 100% sure what’s going on with my body right now. I have this really round torso which wasn’t there last summer. I’m trying to deal with it by camouflaging it with floaty tops and dresses. I am very consciously working on my weight and am now ready to begin an exercise regime as I’ve been cleared by my doctor for all activity. I am determined to get the body I had three years ago back. I am very familiar with that one! And, yes, I know I should be happy with the body I’ve got, but I’m seriously not happy with it. And, I’m not saying that to garner sympathy or compliments.

I call this my mannequin pose!

The outfit…

I really like these pants because they truly are fun and flirty. And, I like the top, too. I’m not sure they play together as well as I thought they would. The top isn’t quite long enough to belt. It’s also ruched on the side, but I may try that rubber band trick to make it appear even more ruched. I will definitely wear both long into the fall. One last thing…this top is not the same silky fabric as the pants and other items I’ve received from Clara Sunwoo. And, that’s on me! I should have realized from the name…it’s modal cotton! But, it’s very, very soft and will work well under sweaters and jackets this fall.

The Lewk!

All of these things have been on the blog. I really need to up my accessory game if I want to call myself a blogger, right? I think all of the jewelry is from Stella & Dot. The sandals are L’Artiste. I picked them up last summer during my girls’ weekend (read about it here). I played around with longer necklaces thinking they would be best. But, in the end, I really liked drawing the attention up to my face with the shorter necklace.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

I love working with the Clara Sunwoo company. It’s a woman run small business with beautiful products and luxurious fabrics. I’m so glad to be a part of the brand even if it’s just a small bit. I do have a code, MARSHA10, for 10% off your entire order. Look for both of these pieces in different iterations on the blog soon! So, can we talk? Do you try for the 1/3 and 2/3 proportions when you get dressed? Or, do you just automatically do it? What are some ways you accomplish this? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise I respond within a couple of days.

  1. Yay for getting cleared for physical activity! That is a huge milestone post-surgery. Though if you are anything like me you’ll have to slowly work up that stamina. I got so tired and winded so easily after taking so much time off to heal. I really like everything I have seen on Clara Sun Woo’s site and have such a hard time narrowing my selections down. I like both of these pieces that you picked!

    • Thanks, Joanne! I don’t get winded, but I sure am beat after a short walk! It will take time, but I’ve got it!

I would really love one of the dresses from Clara Sunwoo, but I’m afraid I’m too short. I will think about them though!

  2. I can’t wait to see what you do with these pieces separately. I love Clara Sunwoo, I think these pants would look great with one of their moto jackets! But honestly, I like this outfit just fine.
As for all the other stuff, I am happy to hear you can start exercising. No matter what, each of us needs to feel good in our bodies regardless of what anyone else says!

    Kellyann

    • Thanks, Kellyann! I would love one of their moto jackets, but I don’t know if they would fit my current pear shape. I think the other liquid leather jacket might, though.

Yes, I’ve begun walking outside and feel so much better. I’m going to start with weight soon, too.

  3. Yay for getting to move now! In love with the colorful print of this pants. I like that you chose black to make them pop!

    • Thanks, Kathrine! I’m glad you think the black makes the pants pop. I was afraid it might be too overwhelming! And, yes, I’m walking a mile a day now working toward 3-4!

  4. I can totally understand wanting to feel comfortable in your body! I have very rectangular body shape and tend to gain weight in my stomach. Not fun when you want to use a belt or button your jeans! I’ve been struggling with the slower metabolism a lot lately. And I’m working out 6 days a week! I hope you are able to meet your goals! Those pants look fabulous on you. Clara Sunwoo makes amazing and comfortable items.

    • Thanks for the words of encouragement, Laura. I think my metabolism didn’t just slow down, it retired! I’ve been starting to walk again, and I am so tired after only a mile. I used to easily do 3-4 miles in about 40 minutes. But, a little at a time will get me back there, I hope.

  5. I bet you could ruche that top more with elastics, yet I think it’s a good look. I didn’t think the proportions were bad.
Our bodies can be frustrating when they aren’t doing what we want, but at least you’re working to change it. I’m reading the best book ever, that you might be interested in called Superlife. I’ll link to it in tomorrow’s email.

  6. The print/color of those pants is a show-stopper! I can see a lot of different color options with them. Glad to hear you’re cleared to start exercising again.

    • Thanks, Sally! Yes, I’m going to start walking and weights. I think these pants will be lots of fun this fall!

  7. These pants are so fun, Marsha! And I really like the unique style of the top, too. I think you will find both of these pieces super versatile. Now that my kids are back to school, I have to up my exercise routine. I still do my early morning gentle yin yoga but I definitely need to incorporate some more cardio exercises. How great that you are cleared for exercise now. I hope you find the perfect routine for you!

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I think both the top and the pants will get lots of use. And, the fabrics truly are wonderful! I have started walking, but my old bones and joints are in rebellion. I need to include weights and really and truly start yoga. I love yoga but always balk at doing it!

  8. I’ve seen so many fabulous pieces from Clara Sunwoo and these are no exception! I love the style of the top and the print of the pants. It’s very frustrating when our bodies rebel – I have a lot more bloating lately and my feet and knees hurt. I’m on HRT and supplements but it doesn’t seem to make a difference…or maybe it would be worse without them…who can tell?!

    • Thanks, Emma! I would love to blame this round belly of mine on hormones, but I think it’s more that I eat too many carbs!
