Gallery of Style: “Buon Giorno Venezia!”

Welcome to the Gallery of Style! This piece of art is full of so many different elements from which you could create an outfit. And, you’ll see just that in our Gallery of Style! If you’d like to read more about why I selected this piece of art, you can find that here. To read more about the art, the artist, and my outfit, you can find that here! But, you’ve come to see not me, but the others who have joined in on the styling for “Buon Giorno Venezia,” right?

Gallery of style…

From one of my readers, Tresi says, “This Style Imitating Art was a no brainer for me! Even when I bought this dress, it made me think of reflections on water. The dress is lined so an extra layer against the chilly weather; I like the striped top as a nod to Venetian gondoliers too.” I hadn’t even thought about the gondoliers! And, this dress looks like it was made for this art work, doesn’t it?

Sally, from Within a World of My Own, says “I  was inspired by the color palette and waves in the water to create an outfit around this softly striped sweatshirt.  The blue skirt and scarf pick up the color of the water, and the cognac leather boots bring in the warm tones of the buildings.  I even made a paper bead bracelet (the bottom one in the photo) from a full-page drawing of a Venice scene in a magazine in tribute to the painting.”

Next is Shelbee, one of my co-hosts, from Shelbee on the Edge in a spectacular outfit comprised of many layers. You can see snow is still in her neck of the woods. She says, “I started with one of my favorite kimono robes that appeared in two previous SIA challenges which both represented buildings. The geometric print reminds me of an elaborate cityscape so I reached for it once again. I layered it over a recently thrifted kaftan dress with a blue and tan vertical print which represents the water in the Venetian canal. I added horizontal stripes with my middle layer long cardigan (also thrifted) and vertical stripes with my scarf to represent the structured lines that create the buildings. I love the way this outfit came together. It feels very true to me!”

Finally, we have Salazar, my other co-host, from 14 Shades of Grey. She writes, “This one took me some thinking, since the original painting contains a lot of bright colors and I don’t have similar shades in my closet. In the end, I decided to go with my blue striped shirt and mustard corduroy pants to reflect the lines of the water, the poles in the canal, and the color of the main building in the center. Then I finished off the outfit with a sweater vest and my blue oxfords as a nod to the other buildings.”

Finally, here I am! I wore a blue and white striped shirt dress in an easy a-line silhouette with green and yellow scarves to echo the colors on the original painting. My bracelets added more of those colors as did my trusty sandals!

And, that’s a wrap!

This week’s Gallery of Style for Style Imitating Art…thank you to Tresi, Sally, Salazar, and Shelbee for participating. Remember, you don’t have to have a blog to be a part of this style challenge. 1. Wow! Tresi’s dress really represents the painting! Amazing. I think that painting is very pretty, the colour combinations and the water gives such a relaxed vibe. Of course Venice does that!

    • I have to tell you, Nancy, when I opened her email and saw those photos, my mouth dropped open! That dress was perfect! It’s a gorgeous art piece. Have you been to Venice? I can only wish and dream to go!

      Thank you, Nancy!

  2. Oh my gosh, Tresi’s dress is absolutely prefect for this painting! It really resembles the artwork so much. I love that everyone incorporated stripes but all the outfits are so vastly different and so totally awesome! Well done to all!

    • Thank you, Shelbee! I honestly didn’t buy it on purpose, but when I got it, it was perfect! I really wish I could paint like these people do!

    • Oh, rub it in, rub it in!!! Honestly, I was looking through your reels to see if there was a glimpse of this particular scene. I’d love to go to Venice, but this may be as close as I get! I am not always comfortable about my legs so it’s rare for me to show them in a dress this short. Yet, everyone always comments…take the hint, Marsha!

      Thanks, Kellyann!

  5. This was a great challenge and Tresi really stepped up. She’s always such a fashion inspiration 💞

  6. Loved seeing the wonderful print mixing in these outfits. I can’t believe I was the least print-mixed of the group, haha! Tresi’s dress was incredibly perfect for the artwork! But everyone did a great job interpreting the painting in ways true to their personal style, which is always such a pleasure to see.

    • Hahaha! You were, weren’t you? That has to be a first! Yes, I couldn’t believe when I saw Tresi’s dress! It’s like it was made just for this painting! I do love the “Gallery of Style” aspect!

      Thanks, Sally!
