I truly love this quirky piece of art/furniture. Maybe, it’s because it was the subject of my very first presentation in my docent training. Maybe, it’s because it’s black! I don’t know, but I really do like it. If you’d like to read more about why I chose it, you can find that here. If you’d like to read more about the artist, the art, and my interpretation, you can find that here. I’m so happy to show you this week’s Gallery of Style and the bloggers who have interpreted Hey Chair Be a Bookshelf bookcase by Maarten Baas!

Gallery of style…
First, we have Sally from St. Paul! That’s how I always think of her. If she ever moves, I’ll have to change my way of thinking. Sally said, “Because I didn’t know what to make of this artwork at first, I picked out the color palette of black (the “bookshelf”), white (the area around it), and green (the fake plant). This skirt with the wavy lines had a bit of the “random organic stripes” feel I got from the image of the bookshelf against the background. I wore the same emerald green T + cardigan I did in the last SIA to represent the plant, then added a scarf with a complicated print to create a print mix, which to me fit with the “jumble of things” vibe of the bookshelf. I finished the look with studded flats (more of the “things stuck to things” vibe) and some handmade jewelry that fit the color palette. I am quite happy with the transformation from Artwork = HUH to Outfit = YEAH that I experienced with this challenge!” I really love the way Sally thinks and puts together an outfit!

Next is Salazar! She says, ” I went with an all-black outfit, and paired it with my book necklace as a nod to the “bookshelf” part. It’s simple, but I like it!” I told you, Salazar has always has a brooch or piece of jewelry that meets the brief!

Shelbee is our overachiever! She came up with her outfit right away and had a blast! I think you can tell! One is her imitation of the sculpture! Can you tell which one? She writes, “I just picked up this gorgeous kimono robe on a thrifting adventure last week and it seemed perfect for this challenge. The bold black border reminds me of all the vertical and horizontal lines in the sculpture and the floral print ties in the plant that is sitting on top of the bookshelf. I wore a green top to mimic the green of the plant and kept everything else in black and white. I love how this outfit turned out and apparently so did some lady driving by while we were taking photos. She rolled down her window and yelled out to me, ‘Your outfit is stunning. You look beautiful.’ So that really made my day!” I think the lady was right, don’t you?

Finally, here is my interpretation. In my head, I was seeing Sally’s skirt or Shelby’s robe. In my closet, I found this dress which was what I had planned from the beginning. I thought, though, there was some kind of linear aspect to it. The only linear aspects were the straps, and they’re covered up by my cardigan!

And, that’s a wrap for this Gallery of Style!
I hope you enjoyed this week’s Gallery of Style for Style Imitating Art…thank you to Anne, Sally, Salazar, and Shelbee for participating. Remember, you don’t have to have a blog to be a part of this style challenge. You can send a photo to the curator to be included in the gallery of style! We’d love to have more people join in! You can also still send me a photo, and I’ll edit the post to include you!
Coming up…
I hope you’ll come back next Monday to see the art work we’ll be styling and imitating! And, please visit all of the people who participated in this week’s challenge!

I love all your outfits, I’m a sucker for black. Fabulous necklace from Salazar. How irritating or is that you have so much trouble with your blog. I could not comment on your post in TBSST, last Saturday. So I’m happy I can now. Have a great day Marsha!
Nancy…you have no idea the problems I’m having with my blog right now! And, it seems like lots of others are, too. WordPress must have updated something and really messed things up!
This was one you should have done!!!
This was such a great challenge and such an awesome piece of art. Everyone did an amazing job as always!
Shelbee
Thanks, Shelbee! I really thought it would be much more difficult than it was! Everyone really did come through with fabulous looks!
You all look fabulous! It’s fun to see how different ladies interpreted the same cue. Nice work.
Thanks, Christie! It’s so much fun to see how the same piece inspires completely different looks!
This was a fun one because while it was out there, it seemed easy to get inspiration from.
XOXO
Jodie
Thanks, Jodie! I was really surprised at how easily I figured mine out. It seems like the same for the others! It is a cool piece!
