Happy Vernal Equinox!

Happy birthday, little brother…a day late…

Yesterday was my little brother’s birthday. He is 17 months younger than me. When I got pregnant with my third, my mom started to give me a bit of guff about it. My two youngest are 16 months apart. I then reminded her of my little brother’s birth! I actually really liked having my kids close together. When my daughter discovered she was pregnant with her second, she panicked a bit. I told her it was so much easier because you were still in baby mode! Eventually, she agreed with me (I think).

A day late…

Nigel and I spent the day laying almost 1600 pounds of square pavers around our back porch. We had done the same thing at our last house. Actually, I did because that was the year he broke his arm. He was definitely the supervisor on that DIY project! We could have had a poured patio at the new house, but I rather like the rustic quality of these pavers. And, there’s also the cost savings! I’m looking forward to planting out our big clay pots. Technically, spring didn’t arrive until around 5:30 our time. The day was sunny with a brisk wind out of the west.

A little more…

We were serving dinner at a men’s mission later in the day. That meant we had to get these photos snapped, downloaded, uploaded, gas up both cars, and make it to downtown Indianapolis by 5:00pm! Guess what? We did it! I told you…I work well under pressure and with a deadline!

What I’m wearing…

My outfit doesn’t really scream Spring, does it? When I saw this duster, I knew it was what I wanted to build my look around. Hey, check it out! My duster is sheer! Yay, me! I’m on trend! Want to know a secret? This J Jill duster is from 2012, I think! I know I bought it to wear to London, and we went that summer. How about that? I was ahead of a trend! I added a luxe tee and these jeans (similar…but look at that hem) from Old Navy (seen here before I chopped them off). The scarf is an old one from Talbots. I hadn’t intended to wear a scarf let alone do any print mixing. But, I also don’t like to wear necklaces over a white tee. My body chemistry often tarnishes the necklace and just makes a mess of my white tees. I went rummaging through my scarves and came up with this one. It has several of the same colors as the duster, and it’s striped. I basically consider stripes to be a neutral, don’t you?

The Lewk!

I bought these Born sandals in the NSale last summer. I’m hoping they stretch out a little bit because the larger size was too big, and these are just a titch too small. They are comfortable otherwise. I decided to keep accessories to a minimum for this lewk so I only added these blue quartz earrings from eBay. I think they’re blue quartz, but they may be something else entirely!

Wrap it up, Marsha!

I apologize for how short today’s post is (some of you are probably celebrating)! I am really looking forward to spring and planting flowers. I do wish I had more real estate upon which to plant, but such is life! We always want what we can’t have! So, can we talk? Is your weather spring-y, fall-y, or the same ol’, same ol’? What do you consider to be a spring outfit, anyway? Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk! I promise to respond as soon as I can. I have all three of my writing assignments done. I just need to revise the big one, but that’s not until April Fool’s Day (yeah, yeah, I know).

  1. Such a pretty look Marsha! The duster has a wonderful print and loving the scarf you added.

  2. Love the look. Classy like you but casual. Thanks for serving at the mission after such a full day! Love your style.

    • Thanks, Hope! I enjoy full days, but they’re few and far between. You’ll soon find out, my friend!

  3. Beautiful print mix, Marsha! You have such a good eye. I do hope you’ll share photos of your patio when it is done. That is hard work! Happy Spring!

    • Thanks, Michelle! I definitely will have photos when everything is done. Right now, we’re just waiting for them to settle a bit before adding sand to seat them. I cannot wait to plant my big planters, though!

  4. Our weather in Athens, GA was very springlike with daffodils, hyacinths, forsythia and now azaleas blooming two weeks ago. The last week or so it went back to winter for us. We had freeze warnings every night! I was covering all my little plants. Crazy. It is still coolish today, but the plants have survived and the weekend is supposed to be warmer. As it should be for halfway through March. I know, as a Northeast girl I sure have been spoiled since moving to the South. I haven’t even thought about putting on sandals yet. You are a braver woman than I am.

    • Oh, my neighbors always laughed at me when I covered my plants with old bed sheets and such! They just had the typical evergreen plantings. There were actually daffodils peeking out of the snow at some houses. I’m hoping to have daffodils, hyacinths, and forsythias next spring! Oh, moving from the Northeast to the South would be quite the shock! I used to wear sandals clear through November when I was teaching. Now, my feet get cold quite easily…unless I’m having a hot flash!

      Thanks, Eileen, for stopping by!

  5. When I found out I was pregnant with my 3rd I burst into tears– I already felt so overwhelmed with the 2 I had but it all worked out for the best and I loved having my three boys in under 4 years. Having them so close in age did make it easier somehow. Your outfit is adorable! Sadly our weather hasn’t changed much yet but I know the warmer weather is on it’s way!

    • Thanks, Joanne! See…it’s what I mean about already being in baby mode…though that shock does just about kill you! I never really understood the term “jaw hits the floor” until I called my gyno and learned I was pregnant with #3! I hope your weather changes soon (that is, if you do)!

  6. Hey, you’re wearing sandals so that’s definitely spring-like. Love the look and now we need to see the home projects,
    XOXO

  7. I hope you treated yourself to a massage after all of that hard work! I chuckled about the baby comments. Mine are almost 5 years apart and I definitely was not in the baby mode still. Haha! I think if I got pregnant again I wouldn’t know what to do! We all survive somehow, right?!

    • Hahaha!! I wish I’d had a massage! Actually, I wasn’t as sore as I thought I’d be! There are five years between my oldest sister and me as well as between my youngest sister and me. I was quite busy for several years, but I’m glad the three of my kids were close in age.

      Thanks, Laura, for visiting!

  8. Well to me sandals are spring! There is still no sign of enjoying the sun here, next week it’s going to freeze again. But the garden thinks it’s spring and the magnolia is in bloom! Love your duster, so you!

    • Thanks, Nancy! Oh, you have a blooming magnolia! We used to have one. It would bloom, and then we would have a wind storm so I only got to enjoy it for a little bit. I hope it warms up soon for you, too!

  9. Great print mix in this outfit! We are having highs in the 40s F this week, so it definitely feels like a Minnesota spring (aka Texas winter, haha).

    • Thanks so much, Sally! Isn’t it funny how 40 in the spring feels so warm as compared to 40 in the fall? I’ve never heard of a Texas winter, but it makes sense!

  10. Ooh, Marsha, I love this kimono! The browns and blues are so pretty together, too. Really cute outfit! Happy birthday to your little brother! And I agree with you about having the babies close together. Mine are 22 months apart and once the little one was in kindergarten, I did not want to start over with a brand new baby. And now I really like that they share a friend group because they are so close in age. It makes life so much easier for me!

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! It really is the prettiest of dusters. I just can’t imagine having kids four or five years apart! We had neighbors who had them like that so she had kids aged 10, 5, and 0! My kids had some shared friends, too, but that created a bit of jealousy at times!
