How to style soft pants!

Short and sweet

My friends, this post is going to be short and sweet…just like me! I cannot believe Christmas is just a couple of days away! By the time this post is published, Christmas Eve will be tomorrow night! GAAAAAAAAHHHH! So, I decided to style soft pants! Have any of you read anything by Jen Lancaster? She actually attended schools in the school district in which I taught. She writes some of the most hilarious memoirs (here, here, and here). There are several more besides the ones I’ve listed. Anyway, in November, she challenged her followers on Instagram to wear hard pants for the entire month as a rebellion against the loungewear we’ve all been wearing for the last I don’t know how many months! And, I succeeded except for the days I wore dresses or skirts! Anyway, if you love funny books (laced with cursey words), you will love Jen Lancaster!

See that poinsettia in the window of the door? My youngest made that for me when he was in 2nd grade. He’s 37 now!

So much to do!

I do have 99.85% of my Christmas shopping done and wrapped. I just need those last few things which I may or may not actually get. I baked three batches of sugar cookies today. I detest cutting those things out, but Nigel lives for Christmas cookies! My grandkids all threaten me with nominating me for “Nailed It” due to my lack of decorating skills so you will NEVER see grandly decorated Christmas cookies on my blog (unless I bought them)! I also baked peanut butter blossoms. I have to make fudge yet and frost those doggone cookies (are there cursey word police on blogs)! Oh, and my oldest bought me dates to make HIM date nut cookies. This is my mom’s recipe, and he loves them! I need to get those doggone nuts! I also have to shop for Christmas Day dinner! See why I’m sort of maybe kind of beginning to panic! Oh, and I probably should run a dust mop and a regular mop over the floors! My son-in-law has eyes like an eagle and can find spider webs anywhere (not my fault…I’m 5’1″ and nearsighted…can’t see anything)!

The Lewk

See, I told you it would be short and sweet! I’m wearing a gorgeous April Cornell knit pullover (it’s half off right now). If it were a few inches longer, I could wear it as a tunic! Maybe I should get one of those lacy extenders…are those still a thing? The top has the tiniest hint of berry in it and a lovely teal lace adornment. I threw on one of my J Jill denim jackets. It’s a petite so it almost hits the sweet spot of being just the right length. I also liked the way the tunic hung way down below the jacket. I know lots of people don’t like that look. I think it’s one of those all or none things! If you’re going to do it, go big! I even popped the collar because I heard that’s what the cool kids are doing (again)! These soft pants (these seem to be almost sold out) by Athleta fit the bill perfectly. I added some earrings and matching necklace from Kendra Scott as well as an old shorter necklace from Stella & Dot. My shoes are comfy and from L’Artiste (similar). I bet you thought they only did gorgeous boots! These are not the most comfortable so I always put insoles in them. The close up picture shows you a bit of the detail on the shoes. There are some cutouts, but it’s mainly an embossed print.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

As I finish editing this, I am happy to report the fudge is made, the cookies are frosted (I didn’t do it, though), and the Christmas dinner fixin’s are ordered. I still don’t have those last few things I need to finish up my shopping. But, if I don’t, it’s not a big deal. I want to thank each and every one of you who reads, comments, and/or subscribes to my blog. I do appreciate you. Please let me know how your life is going. Are you ready for Christmas? Or, did you celebrate Hanukkah and are just relaxing now? Do you have last minute details you may or may not get finished? Let’s have a conversation! I promise to respond! Once again, thank you for being a part of my journey on the internet!

  1. I am a HUGE Jen Lancaster fan! I have read so many of her books and while her early work is still my favorite (Bitter is the New Black had me laughing out loud) I enjoy her snarky humor in all she writes. I actually got to meet her and her husband (Fletch?) at a book signing and she was so charming.
Your soft pants are perfect for this time of year, all the things that have to be done last minute add up – we might as well be uber comfortable!!!
Merry Christmas Marsha, I’d say the same to Nigel too but I’m still upset about your ice skates so there’s that. He’s on the naughty list!

    • Oh, oh, oh!!! I wish we were neighbors!! I adore Jen Lancaster, but I’ve never met her. I had the chance to several years ago but something came up and I couldn’t go. Consider me jealous!!! We were actually “friends” on Facebook, and I can tell you she is a warm and wonderful person. She wrote me an amazing message when my Pete was dying. I don’t remember which book she was writing at the time, but it’s the one where one of her dogs is dying, too. So, she was comforting me as she was mourning. Just an amazing human being! And, yes, her snarky books are the best!

I love these pants. I hope Athleta brings them back in other colors soon!

Merry Christmas to you, too, Kellyann! Nigel is frequently on the naughty list so he’s kinda used to it!!

  2. I am all ready for Christmas other than helping my son bake up two things; one for tomorrow and one for Saturday but we’ve got it all planned out and both should be fairly easy. Those pants looks so comfy! Even my more formal looks tend to include soft pants– velvet leggings, wide legged pants in a shimmery, soft material, etc.

    • What fun that your son likes to bake. None of my kids did. My grandkids enjoy it…my youngest granddaughter and I had a baking day a couple of weeks ago. She was very helpful!

Joanne, these pants are a dream. But, I’m not sure how they’d work on regular size people. I’m wearing the regular size and they’re perfect on me. They do have a huge waistband you fold over so maybe others just wear them lower on the hip? All of my “formal” pants are soft now that I think about it! I got rid of all of the others when I retired.

      Have a wonderful holiday, Joanne!

  3. I haven’t read anything by Jen Lancaster but I like her challenge! These pants are lovely on you and I like the top with them! 🙂

It’s good you got so many last minute things done! I have the gifts all wrapped and cookies made, the only thing I haven’t done yet is make the salad I’m bringing to the in-laws house for Christmas with them, but we are doing that boxing day so I’ll make it in the morning and take it over when we go for lunch 🙂 Will be a fun couple of days here!

Hope that you have a wonderful Christmas 🙂

    • I still have lots to make but that won’t happen until tomorrow or Saturday. I’m glad (I think) we don’t have Boxing Day here! It would just be another holiday for me to stress over!

I think you would like Jen Lancaster. She makes you laugh right out loud so don’t be drinking anything! And, thanks so much for the compliment on the pants. They are comfy as well as cute!

      Have a wonderful holiday, Mica!

  4. I actually don’t bake for Christmas. I love all of the goodies but don’t have the patience to make them! Love this comfy outfit: that denim jacket does hit just right and the color scheme with the berry color is perfect this week. Those pants look so comfortable for family time. Now those shoes are just plain gorgeous! One of these days, I will check the website but I am afraid of getting tempted to purchase more shoes.

    • Hahaha! I can’t find these particular shoes anywhere right now so you’re safe! I was really kind of surprised at how much I liked this outfit. I put it together in my mind, but most of the time that doesn’t work!

I love to bake…just not cut out sugar cookies. And, I detest decorating them! So, I guess we are on the same page when it comes to that!

      Have a fabulous holiday, Mireille!

  5. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. This is such a great look on you. The pants look comfy and I really like the color. Your shoes are just gorgeous!
