Sequins and Denim for New Year’s Eve!

Nigel and I don’t do much of anything for New Year’s Eve. In fact, he’ll be snoring long before midnight. I’ll be up; I’m always up at midnight! I can really only remember celebrating New Year’s Eve twice in our married life. The first time was before we had kids, and the second one was after the kids had left the nest! Yep, we are just that interesting, folks!

Wrong length…

These jeans are an awkward length. I’m honestly thinking about chopping them off to wear with boots. I don’t usually wear cropped jeans, but I don’t like the length of these jeans anyway. Will she do it? Hmmm…we will see! They don’t look right with flats, heels, or even bare feet! I could add a trim to the bottom of them and add patches here and there. That’s an idea.

My ‘fit…

I guess all the cool kids are calling them ‘fits these days. It’s funny the words and terms kids come up with. Once upon a time, I kept up with it because my students used those terms. These days, I seem to pick up these funny little words long after they’re cool. So, this is the first and last time I will use the term, ‘fit! I had been looking at this Talbots turtleneck for weeks. During a flash sale, I bought it, and I’m so glad I did. I like the way the paillettes pick up light and reflect different colors depending on that light. It’s nice and cozy, but it’s not particularly warm. The jeans are from Old Navy, but I bought them months ago so I have no clue which ones they are! I really don’t like the light wash on them, either. I need to keep reminding myself of things I don’t like so I don’t keep buying them!

The Lewk!

Ya’ll, I am crushed! These Josef Seibel mules are old. I was wearing them before I retired. I also have them in grey. Look closely at the photos. Do you see those little nibs hanging out at the sides? These mules are literally falling apart. The top is completely separated from the bottom on one shoe. I’ve never seen such a thing. The really bad thing is the soles are a composite material. And, the next really bad thing is the leather is still in pristine shape. I’m going to try to find a cobbler. My guess is it will cost more to repair them if that could even be done. I hurried up and checked my grey ones. They’re fine. I just think it’s weird that both shoes are disintegrating like this. The earrings are from Banana Republic and are really heavy. I only wear them for short periods of time.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season whichever holiday you celebrate (or don’t). We had a wonderful time with the kids, bonus kids, and grands. I’m not sure the taco meal was the best idea, though! No one went hungry, but I didn’t hear any “Oh, let’s do this again!” comments. So, can we talk? Do you celebrate NYE in a big way? What’s your typical NYE look? What would you do with my too-short jeans? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise I do respond as soon as possible.

Thank you!

  1. HI Marsha, Mike and I never see midnight. We make a special dinner usually seafood, together and just have a quiet night at home together reflecting on our year and our dreams for 2024. Wishing you a very Happy New Year and you look lovely in your sequinne top.

    • Hi, Sue! That is a lovely tradition. I think we should try something like that here as we have the quiet night nailed!

Thank you so much, and have a wonderful New Year!

  2. That is such a fun outfit! I so rarely wear sequins but I do like them. We never make it up to midnight either; maybe a handful of times in high school/ college but never again since then.

    • Thanks, Joanne! I go through periods where I have lots of sequins, and then I get tired of them. I think this top is rather classic so it will be hanging around for a long time. You’re an early riser with three boys to get going in the morning! My early mornings ended in 2012 when I retired! Now, I have early mornings, but they’re before I go to sleep!

      Have a wonderful New Year!

  3. What a fun turtleneck! I bet it would look great with a maxi gypsy skirt.
Wishing you all the best for 2024!

  4. Love your outfit today! And your hair is fabulous — and it looks wonderful with the light wash jeans. You look so coordinated and sharp. I think those jeans work for you! Happy New Year!

    • Thank you so much, Beth! I truly appreciate the compliments. I am kinda flabbergasted! My hairstylist has been wanting to do neon green so we did just the tips. Then, she ran out of the purple so that’s why it’s blue on top…kind of a Mardi Gras or peacock look!

  5. That top is SO cute! I love it with your hair too! This is the perfect NYE outfit!

    • Thanks, Laura! I debated this top for so long, and I really don’t know why. I only got my hair done last week so I’m kind of surprised at how quickly it’s fading. It was much more brilliant. I have to wash it in ice cold water which is not fun at all!

  6. I am not a fan of turtlenecks. They make me feel like I am suffocating. I love that one on you though. It is super pretty! I love the sequins on it.

That really stinks about those shoes and how they are falling apart. I hope you can find someone to fix them. They are super cute. I need to buy more shoes like that.

We don’t do anything on NYE. Sometimes we go to my parents and have some food together but we don’t stay until midnight. They are almost 80 and we are getting old so we go home and might be awake at that time but aren’t celebrating. Ha. We usually are reading books if we are awake.

    • I have always loved turtlenecks, but I stretch them way out before putting them on. I can’t stand the suffocating feeling, either. There’s a city “chatter” page on Facebook, and someone posted about a guy who works on leather. I’m going to give him a call and see what he says. The leather is in wonderful condition. It’s just the weirdest thing!

I’ll be watching some kind of tv on NYE. It’s nice you go to your parents’ home. You’re making such wonderful memories for them, you, and your children.

      Thanks, Lisa!

  7. Nope, we don’t stay up until midnight if we can help it…haha. I’m in bed way before then.
As for the jeans, I have to disagree. I love them. The light wash is very modern and contrasts nicely against the darker top (which is fabulous, BTW). And the length is just fine. I don’t see anything weird with it at all. I think you just need to wear them more and try them with lots of different footwear. I bet you’ll be a fan before long!!

    • I will probably still be awake when it’s midnight at your house! I’ve been wearing these jeans for a long time now. They’re just an awkward length that didn’t really translate in the photos. They’re just a titch too short for flats even. I bet I could unpick the hem and have a cool effect that way! I just thought of that…I’ll try hard not to break my arm patting myself on the back!

      Thanks, Jodie!

  8. I went to sleep at 10 on NYE but the fireworks in the neighborhood woke me up for a bit. I’ve cut a pair of my jeans that I thought were an awkward length and wear them much more since then.

    • I was still awake at midnight. Thank goodness, because someone in the neighborhood beside us was having a wonderful time with fireworks! I think I’m going to try to unpick the hem before cutting them off. I’ve not always been successful at that.

      Thanks, Mireille!

  9. What a fun sweater for NYE! And I really like your ideas for altering these jeans. Although I think they are cute as is. But if you aren’t comfortable in them, then definitely change them somehow. You could also dye them if you don’t like the light wash. Otherwise, they are just useless because you will never reach for them when getting dressed. I have never done much on NYE ever in my life. It was a special holiday for me and my dad and I never really did anything special since he died 29 years ago. This year, the boys had a friend sleep over and we had a chicken wing bar. I made the food, cleaned the mess, and went to bed at 9:00! As for your shoes falling apart, I just commented on another post that I spent some $$$ to repair a pair of beloved boots. I contacted the company to see if they offered repairs and it was a fantastic experience. My repaired boots are currently en route to me and I am planning to write a post about the whole process. So maybe contact the shoe company and see if they do repairs on old designs. It doesn’t hurt to ask!

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I think the first thing I might try is to unpick the hem to see if I like that length. Part of me really wants to add some fringe or other trim to the bottom like we did in the 70s! I think that’s a genius idea…I will try to contact the company and see if they can repair them. The only thing that’s bad is the bottom is a composite type of material…not leather and not really plastic either. It’s just a molded piece. But, it can’t hurt to call. Thanks for the suggestions!

  10. That’s a great top and looks super how you e styles it. Thanks for sharing and do add to the linkup tomorrow xx Jacqui x

    • Thanks so much, Jacqui! I will definitely link up tomorrow! I hope you’ll join the Weekend Traffic Jam!
