Spring Trends…Love Them/Hate Them!

Life lately…

It has been a few weeks, my friends! Nigel was scheduled to have his hip replaced last Tuesday, but there was a weird bacterial infection present. So, they put in a spacer which will also diffuse antibiotics for six weeks. I have to administer antibiotics through a PICC line. I’m just happy he’s home as it looked like he was headed to a rehab facility for a bit. In fact, we’d made the decision, and the case manager had set that ball rolling. Then, the Physical Therapist came in and was amazed at the changes in him. So, long story short, we came home last Thursday and are doing quite well. Please continue your prayers, positive thoughts, happy vibes, whatever if you’re so inclined. We appreciate them so much! Today, though, is the third Thursday of the month which means it’s time for another Ageless Style challenge.  This month, we are styling “Spring Trends,” chosen by Bo. Last month, Amy selected “Outerwear.” In the past we have worn “Outerwear,” “Tweed,” “Vests,” and many other ideas. If you’re curious, you can find some of my looks  herehere, here, and here. Next month’s prompt is “One Item Three Ways!” if you’d like to join us! Please do visit the other hostesses of the link party (oh, yes, there’s a link party) at their various sites!

Spring trends 2026…

I googled “spring trends 2026” and got several different answers! I’m going with just a few. I really don’t pay a lot of attention to trends because I like what I wear and wear what I like. If that happens to be on trend, yay! If not, yay! I think the whole idea of fashion trends is to get us to think we need to replace our wardrobes each season. Does it work on me? Well, of course it does! If I go into a store, what am I going to see? The clothing that the buyer for that retailer predicted would be on trend. I often wonder how it happens that so many retailers will have the same colors. Do they get together and plan this out? Hmmm….

The trends I noticed…

I’m seeing lots of florals. Now, I know everyone rolls their eyes about florals for spring. But, these florals seem to be a little more botanic in design. And, y’all know I’m happy with a floral! One of the reasons is that my dad hated florals and would say they reminded him of his mom’s curtains. It reminds me of him and makes me smile. Another is prints with birds in them.

Another trend…

Another trend mentioned is boho which is short for bohemian. Did you know that grew out of the 19th century rejection of bourgeois societal norms by creatives…artists, poets, and writers!  They adopted the frugal lifestyle of the Romani people.  These people were mistakenly thought to be from Bohemia.  The creatives became known as bohémiens. And, today, we call it boho! I know the younger generations love going to thrift stores to find 70s treasures. So, that would, indeed, fall into the frugal category. If you check out the designers, though, those boho styles are in no way frugal!

A third trend…

Pastels are really big this year. There’s a move away from the bolder colors we saw last year. Should you throw those out? Well, if you’re not wearing them regularly, maybe. I won’t because we know what goes around, comes around! The colors that appear to be on trend this spring are icy blue as well as pale peach, mint green, and creamy butter. Other colors include dusty lavender, powdery blue, creamy butter, soft sage, and blush pink. It seems like designers want us to blend into the background instead of boldly standing out. Again, I’m going to wear the colors I like and know look good with my coloring.

The outfit…

I did not buy this outfit for this challenge. I happened to go to the mall to return items and was drawn to this beautiful Shirred-Trim Cap-Sleeve Top in “lucite bird utopia.” It’s a little on the boxy side. I’ve read that’s on trend, too. I had to look closely to find the birds as those of y’all who have been around know I’m not a fan of bird prints! I love the trim on along the collar and front placket. It’s just a joyful little top! Of course, I needed a pair of pants to go with them. That’s something I’ve noticed as missing in my closet…”good” pants I can wear to the museum. I have loads of dresses (hahaha), but I need pants, too! These are the Linen-Stretch Slim-Leg Pants in olivine/white. I think they’re neutral-adjacent, don’t you? So, even though I didn’t buy it specifically for this challenge, I think it ticks several boxes: floral print, bird print, sage green, boho!

The Lewk!

It’s still not sandal weather here! But, when I wear this outfit, I will definitely be wearing these Shay sandals from Miz Mooz in sage. I have them in black, too. I warned you I might get them in another color. Well, I just got them in pink, and they are a glorious pink! Like my Miz Mooz boots, these are comfortable and walkable right out of the box. The coil bracelet is an old one from Stella & Dot, and I just love it. I hope I never mess it up. Remember how you’d get Slinkies™ all twisted up. I’m afraid I’ll do that with this bracelet. The other is also by Stella & Dot and is the Rebel necklace. The cuff was from my eBay shopping days as are the earrings.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

You may have noticed my photos are a little different. Nigel isn’t able to stand for long periods of time because he can’t put any weight on his right foot. So, I’m using a tripod for the first time. It’s got a bit of a learning curve. I think I should have put the tripod on the step I was standing on. Don’t worry, Nigel will be back in a few weeks. While I don’t chase trends, I often accidentally end up wearing them. I find I love the Spring trends so much more than any others. I think it’s the colors and prints. What’s funny is that Spring isn’t necessarily my favorite season! So, can we talk? What trends have captured your notice this year? Or, do you completely ignore the trends? What trend will you absolutely not wear? Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as quickly as I can.

Thank you!

  1. Well done using the tripod, it works well.

  2. I have never followed trends consciously, but like you say, if there’s clothes in a shop that follow a trend, there’s a chance you get something trendy without knowing it.
Nowadays, however, I doubt even that still happens to me as I buy so little.

    • Thanks, my friend! I mean there are some seriously weird looks on the runways these days. It will be interesting to see how they translate into trends which I will only follow if I like them. You have your beautiful beading to keep you shopping, though!

  3. Here’s hoping that infection clears up quickly! Gosh, y’all have been through so much, Marsha. You are still smiling so that just goes to show you are so strong!
I LOVE those linen pants, great color and style! Such a cute outfit and you look MARVELOUS!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Thanks, Kellyann! I keep telling him he always manages to do it up right even when it’s so wrong! I’m just so very thankful the infection was found before the surgery. I mean…calling the surgeon to tell him the bacteria had shown up overnight! I honestly smile because of my dad. One of his favorite sayings was, “Keep on smiling. People will wonder what you’re up to!” It drove my principal nuts especially when I was spec ed.

I had absolutely no intention of buying anything at J Jill as the catalog wasn’t particularly inspiring. But, this little top led to the pants which led to a new (yes another one) denim jacket! I also picked up a beautiful blouse with a William Morris feel to it on sale. I’m surprised my J Jill card still has numbers on it!

  4. You have a great outlook on the topic of trends! Wear what you love and you will always be happy. Sometimes I buy nothing that’s on trend and other times the trends really speak to me. It’s all over the place and often it’s just the state of my closet, if I need something and find a replacement, yay! Anyway, I am enjoying this outfit so much. I love the cream colored pants as a base and then the earthy tones of the greens. I think this is the perfect spring outfit and man do I want sandal season to arrive. On a completely different topic, I am glad Nigel is doing better. Rehabilitation is a process but I am sure he is up to the task and you are as well! Continue to keep us posted.

    • Thanks, Bo! I think that comes from feeling confident in what you’re wearing. I still have plenty of pencil skirts, but I’m beginning to think it’s time to get rid of them. I just love my closet now. It’s a happy place full of color, texture, and strange little surprises lurking everywhere! Well, it really isn’t sandal season here yet, either. But, I didn’t want to wear anything heavy with the “light” feel of the outfit. Oh, this man will walk on our 50th anniversary in June…I am determined!

  5. First of all, well done on your pictures with the tripod! I never like the picture I take of myself by myself: I can do videos fine and I don’t know what happens with pictures. Two, your husband continues in my prayers and I am glad he is able to be at home until his surgery. And three: I really like this outfit! The color palette is very pretty and springy and really is perfect for your coloring. I love the fit of that top and it is such a pretty floral. I see what you are saying about it being more botanical! I enjoyed the little history about bohemian fashion. It really is one of my favorite styles to wear.

    • Thanks, Mireille! I was happy with the way they turned out. I need to experiment a little. And, I found it so much easier to smile which is weird! My youngest had volunteered to take them, but I told him that would be awkward (remember, he’s in his early 40s so not a high schooler). Thank you so much for the prayers…they are powerful…and I deeply appreciate them. I was just wondering about where we got boho and was surprised to find out it started with artists and writers! Once a teacher, always a teacher!

  6. Until I joined you all for this monthly style post I was mostly unaware of trends. I buy when I like when I see it and wear it for probably far longer than it is in style. I don’t really care. I’ll definitely be wearing bold colors again this spring mixed in with my pastels and florals and linen and things. Now if it would just start to FEEL like spring that would be great. I get so anxious and impatient for nice weather this time of year.

    • You know…after reading your comment…I was the same way. I just wore what I liked, and usually that was April Cornell or Talbots. I have definitely stretched the limits of my wardrobe! My hyacinths are just plain dead. I’m hoping they’ll come back next year. It hit the 70s today again after being so cold yesterday and the day before. Mother Nature is just playing games with us now!

  7. I love your outfit so much! I’ve been trying to figure out some styles to freshen up my work wardrobe for spring. This gives me so many great ideas! Thanks for sharing!

  8. jodie filogomo

I consider it a good thing not to be tied to trends…besides what we put together without trends is much more interesting.
I’ve only recently become a floral girl…talk about a change of style for me.
Love, love, love the look and so glad Mike’s doing somewhat better.
    XOXO
    Jodie

    • Thanks, Jodie! Like I mentioned in my post, I think the only time I really buy trends is when they show up in retailers. That being said, I really, really want a fringed suede bag similar to what I carried in the 70s! I am so glad you’ve embraced florals…they are my favorite! Mike is doing much better every day. He’s been off the pain meds since Sunday. The man tolerates pain so well.

  9. Wishing your husband all the very best for his recovery from the infection and for his surgery.
You did so very well with the photos using a tripod for the first time .
Your outfit is so soft and pretty and the print on your top is just lovely. I must admit to not following seasonal trends and wearing what I know suits me and my style . The soft pastel colours are not my friend so I will stick to black and white and bold colours.

    • Thank you so much, Jill! We are sticking to the rules and timelines. I’m so hopeful this time around. The tripod is a little different than having a real person there. I really do like this outfit. I don’t, as a rule, buy a complete outfit. I was pretty sure I didn’t have anything that went with the top. I think you look simply amazing in your black and white with bold colors!

  10. Marsha, this is a gorgeous spring outfit in neutrals. I always love a good floral for spring or any other time of year really! And as far as trending colors is concerned, I don’t think there is any color that I don’t like. I really just love all the colors! I am so glad that you decided to go for the tripod during Mike’s recovery. I am sure it has relieved some stress and he will be back at it soon enough!

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I just love florals at least as much as you do! There are colors I’m not fond of, but I’ve discovered I just need a different tone of that color. The tripod is going to be so helpful in the coming months. But, Mike will definitely be back behind the camera as soon as he can. I think he likes it almost as much as I do!

  11. What a beautiful top! Thanks for sharing these spring trends. Glad to hear that Nigel is coming along smoothly. I will continue to pray for quick healing.

    https://www.kathrineeldridge.com

    • Thanks so much, Kathrine! I really hadn’t intended to buy anything, but this top just caught my eye. I had to try it on! Thank you so much for the prayers. I really appreciate them.

  12. I love bird prints so I say hurray to this trend! Your outfit is lovely and looks great on you.

    • Thanks, Sally! I had to really look hard to find the birds on this top even though every sales associate called it the bird top!

  13. I love the print of your top! Such a great outfit incorporating multiple trends! I used to take all of my photos with a tripod and remote but at some point a few years ago I guilted my husband into taking all of my photos for me. Hope Nigel is feeling better soon!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • Thank you, Jill! It was funny…the day I bought that top, there were probably three or four women trying the same top on. The sales associate helping me grabbed one to make sure they weren’t sold out before she could try it! I’m hoping the tripod is only for a couple of months as Mike heals. Hopefully, I’ll get better at it, too!

  14. Hi, Marsha – I haven’t paid attention to the Spring trends so far because the weather has been so cold. I was still dressing in the mood of Winter, until the equinox yesterday. I love to find out what’s trending to guide my outfit ideas every day, but I only choose the trends to wear that suit me. You and Nigel have been riding through the storm of his health very well. I’m keeping you in my prayers – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

    • Thank you for the prayers, Angie! One of us is very, very stubborn and won’t give up! I don’t really notice trends that much unless they are so obvious that you can’t miss them. I think you are right…we should only wear what suits us and makes us happy.

  15. Love the “lewk”! I’m a big fan of botanicals—will be happy to see more on the racks this spring.

  16. I always love posts like this because trends really are so personal. It’s fun to see what you’re loving versus skipping this season, and I totally agree that not everything works for everyone. I think that’s what makes style interesting—picking and choosing what actually fits your lifestyle and personality. Such a great, honest take on spring trends!

    • Thanks, Laura! It’s so funny, though, to read what the trends are. Most agree on florals, but the colors, themes, and such can sometimes vary so widely. My latest iteration of fashion doesn’t necessarily fall into any of these categories, but I love it!

  17. I’m really not into trends, either, Marsha. I’d rather just wear whatever appeals to me, whether it’s on trend or not. I do quite like some florals, and I love boho, especially if it’s a bit whimsical! I haven’t been taking any notice of what’s on trend lately so I’ve really no idea. However, I did pop into the shops last week and noticed my current favourite stripes seem quite popular. But, to be honest, I hate it when my favourite things are trendy because I’d rather not look like everyone else lol!!
I do hope Mike is recovering well.
    Sending you both big hugs
    Suzy xx

    • Thanks, Suzy! He is recovering but gets a little down some days. Trends come and go, but I think style is when you know what works for you and you stick with it. Of course, that can also change. I think that’s why I’ve always loved April Cornell clothing so much. Hardly anyone knew of her where we used to live. Now, with online shopping, it may be a little more recognizable. But, I like to be unique!

  18. These delicate colors suit you beautifully! A very pretty spring look. Sending happy vibes for you and Nigel. Thanks for linking at #TuesdayTwirl

    • Thanks so much, Gail! They are a little out of the norm for me. I think I’m lucky that I can wear these colors as well as vivid ones, too. Thanks for the good vibes, too!

  19. I love prints and florals are among my favorites. Love a good paisley, too!! The colors in your outfit are so pretty. Cool, refreshing looking. Hope Nigel is making great progress at rehab.

    • Thanks, Leslie! We are doing well and getting into a routine. You know how that is. As soon as I saw this top, I was in love. Florals are my favorite with paisley a close second! I don’t have a lot of paisley right now except for in scarves.
