Two is Better than One!

Kellyann has long touted the glory of a slip dress, and she looks fabulous in the ones she finds. I tried this one from Target after Kellyann modeled it. The parts of my body didn’t go where they were supposed to go. It is cut on the bias if I’m recalling it correctly. I don’t know what it is about bias cut dresses, but they always feel like they’re going one way, and I’m going another.

Magic!

And, then, the magic happened! I discovered the Moonchild Slip Dress at Kantha Bae. One of the things I’ve discovered is my monitor is not a good indicator of the actual colors of items at Kantha Bae. Or, it could be their camera is a skosh off. Anyway, it’s always a bit of a crap shoot when it comes to the item actually matching what I think I’m going to get. Remember, each item at Kantha Bae is unique as they are made from recycled saris. I’ve linked to one that’s pretty doggone cute! I now have this one and another.

Moonchild Slip Dress…

I bought one several months ago, but it hasn’t appeared on the blog yet. This dress is flowy and light and…it has pockets! My first dress is pretty much the same print front and back. When I received this one, though, I noticed the front and back are distinctly different. I actually liked the back better. So, I thought, “Why not wear it backward?” Can you even tell which is the front or the back?

Underneath…

As you can see, this is not a dress you wear by itself. It is not a one and done! I wanted something light and rather unobtrusive. I wanted something to enhance the dress not overshadow it. And, I found these Luxe Rib Knit Swing Tees from Old Navy. I was in the store the other day, but I wasn’t sure which color would go with this dress best. I decided to try both the “virtual orchid” and “panther.” Panther is not quite black and not quite charcoal grey. They wash and wear wonderfully.

A two-fer…

I was so happy to see how well each color worked with the slip dress. I wouldn’t, necessarily, have to wear them this way. I could easily wear the berry colored tee with the silver side on the front and vice versa. As the weather cools, I will wear a long sleeved top underneath and probably even a denim jacket. Add some tights and a fun pair of boots, and another glorious outfit is born!

The Lewk!

These aren’t black wedges nor do they have a t-strap. But, I will probably wear the Annmarie wedges more than I would a pair of black wedges! Both the front strap and the ankle strap are adjustable via velcro. I like being able to adjust my sandals because my feet often swell during hot days. I added two sparkly necklaces, both old and from Banana Republic as well as a pair of pink topaz earrings from eBay to complete my ensemble.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

When I thought to wear this dress backward, I wasn’t sure if the pockets would work out. Bingo, bango, boingo, they do! The dress really doesn’t appear to have a front or a back as you look at it on a hanger. The only way I can really tell is the tag. I don’t intend to take it off as you can’t really see it. So, can we talk? Have you figured out which is the actual front? Do you have any clothing you wear backward and find it just as good as wearing it the right way? Are you a fan of slip dresses? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise I do respond. If you don’t receive an email informing you of that, please check back in a couple of days. I know some people receive notifications, and others don’t. I have no idea why that is. And, the front of the dress is the pink side! Did you guess that?

  1. Now, is that a versatile dress or what? I think both sides are equally beautiful.

    • Thanks, Nancy! I thought I liked the silver side best, but when I look at the photos, the pink side appeals most to me. But, I will wear it both ways for sure!

  2. You look wonderful in this dress! Gorgeous!

  3. What a stunning slip dress Marsha! The color and print are exquisite! And loving the idea of layering a tank underneath. Perfect summer look!

    • Thanks so much, Kathrine! I really like this dress a lot and have worn it several times. The tanks were necessary, or I’d be in big trouble!

  4. What a fab dress on you Marsha. Love the print!

  5. I really can not tell which is the front and which is the back but it looks fabulous either way! I found that is how my Lily tank top is that I bought this summer; in fact I like it a bit better when I wear it with the back in the front (and I only know I’m wearing it backwards because of the little lily charm).

    • Thanks, Joanne! Sometimes, wearing a top backward just makes it a little more modest, especially with a deep v neck. I love your Lilly tops! Aren’t the prints fun?

  6. That is a lovely dress. I like it both ways, but did guess the pink was the front. I don’t think I have any dresses that could be worn front or back. What a neat garment.

    • Thanks, Eileen! I have tried wearing cardigans backward, but I feel like I’m suffocating. This was just a happy little accident!

  7. Boingo boingo is right!! Super twofer that’s also kind of a manymorefer with all the different colors you were able to wear with that dress! I have stayed away from spaghetti strap dresses and tops in recent years because…things are pretty saggy..BUT, I like how nicely the tanks you are wearing look perfectly natural with the dress and not like you were camouflaging (not that YOU were, but I would be). Opens the options back up again!

    • Oh, I love that…a manymorefer! Well, things are saggy and pokey-outy around here, but, sometimes, you just embrace it. Other days, you open up that hidden half gallon of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and cry around the spoon.

      Thanks Em!

  8. Both sides of the dress are fabulous, and I like how you put the grey + silver side and orchid + pink side together. I don’t have anything in my wardrobe right now that works so well worn backwards.

    • Thanks, Sally! I do like matchy matchy. But, I have a feeling I could wear either tee with the dress either way. I think this is probably the only thing I would actually wear backward. I don’t like the way I feel suffocated trying to wear a cardigan backward, either.

  9. Bravo, bravo. That is a fabulous dress and I love how you thought to wear it backwards. Another option to wear under it would be Halftees only because they can be cooler in the summer.

    Jodie

    • Thanks, Jodie! I really liked the back so I thought I’d try it backward. I was thrilled because I now have at least four looks out of one dress and two tees! I tried my Halftee. It was too short. Those arm holes are really deep.

  10. I’m stumped! I think both ways are beautiful! What a great idea to recycle saris this way. The dress is such a pretty color on you and I love the boho vibe!

    • Thanks, Laura! I have to be careful with pinks, but this was the perfect color. And, the pink side is the front!

  11. I like it with the magenta top, which is funny as I wouldn’t have thought to pic it! #TrafficJamWeekend

  12. Marsha! I love this dress and now I need one! It really looks like two different dresses when you switch sides and when you switch the color of the tee underneath. Freaking brilliant! I just wore my Kantha coat inside out to show the different pattern and you could not tell at all that it was inside out. The hood covered the tag and the pockets are just flipped to the inside. I need more Kantha Bae in my closet! But first I need to make room in my closet. Eek.

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! As I was looking at the dress on the website, only a bit of the silver side showed. I was surprised and delighted when the whole back was that color. It’s really like getting two dresses for one! There is some store, but I don’t know the name, in Asheville that sells Kantha Bae stuff. I’m more drawn to the silks than the true kantha cloth items. They just don’t work as well on me.

  13. I really can’t tell which is the front and back because it works perfect both ways and both tanks work wonderfully with the dress. I do not wear my slip dress very much but I do love the color of it and its versatility. I had to tell you that after you shared about jjill a couple posts ago, I ended up being drawn to a pair of mustard wide leg jeans. With the last sale they had, I purchased them. Hope they work for me since I have so many ideas for them starting with an outfit for our next Ageless style link up.

    • Thanks, Mireille! I love J Jill, and try to get everything on sale! I love it when it’s on sale with an additional discount. I can’t wait to see what you come up with! I do love these dresses and the versatility though my other one is pretty much the same front and back.
