Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot!

Week 118!

Well, life has this funny way of smacking you upside the head and saying, “Hey, let’s change things up!” As you know, I’ve been undergoing treatment for dry eyes as well as gunky glands along my bottom lids. I’ve had three IPL treatments and use prescription eye drops. I had a regular check up this week, and guess what? Someone needs cataract surgery! I knew I had a baby cataract, but, apparently, it has grown up. Actually, it’s affecting my “quality of life” as the eye doctor put it. I don’t like to drive at night and avoid it as much as possible. I really like my eye doctor and trust her advice. She asked if I ever take my glasses off to do close up work. Since I do, she said she’d note that I wanted to keep my nearsightedness…words I never thought I’d hear! Anyway, there is a weight limit after the procedure, and I’m still helping Nigel get out of bed. So, I’m putting it off until later this year. Welcome to the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot! Look for the link up to go live Thursdays at 9:30pm EDT. Sue’s post goes live in Australia on Friday at 12:30 pm.

As part of our new year reboot, we are now shining the spotlight on a different blogger each week. We invite you to stop by their blog, take a look around and say hello! This week, we spotlight Erin from Still Life, With Cracker Crumbs.

Erin says, ““Come in, and get to know me better man…” (if you know what that is from that will make my day)

I guess I should start with talking about me! My name is Erin, thanks to my mom’s obsession with The Waltons while she was pregnant. However, I like my name and I think it suits me.

I try to create a culture of celebration in our home. For life, for the little things, for wonder and for whimsy. I try to find the beauty around us and teach my son Wyatt to find it, and appreciate it and love it as well.

We are a homeschool family, and we love it. We love the freedom it gives us to explore a topic or idea more deeply, and I like that I can adjust our schedule around Wyatt’s other needs. Wyatt has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and his week often has therapy, doctor’s appointments, naps peppered throughout which would make a traditional school schedule difficult. He is also an asynchronous learner, and I love that I can tailor learning to where Wyatt is at that moment.

We have a house full of animals and will probably add more because we like a zoo. We have one cat, Miso, who is a rescue. She is 14 years old and my little floofy girl. We also have one leopard gecko, Luna, a pictus gecko named Harlow, a pacman frog named Freddy, and two crested geckos, Applejack and Oliver. We love all of our little friends!

My husband Billy, Wyatt, and I are all curious, creative, stubborn humans which makes for some fun times around here. We love the outdoors, except we are not made for high temps so we retreat inside when the temps start to soar. We are nature lovers through and through. We are trying to downsize our lives too, to live more simply, to buy things that last and eat real food from small local farmers. (and of course Goldfish crackers) We live seasonally and are always up for adventure. We love books and reading, and can be found at the library at least once a week!” Please visit her here, and tell her we sent you!

Wouldn’t you like to know more about your hostesses? We’ve got you covered there! Please feel free to drop by the others to see what their blogs are all about! We are a very diverse group of bloggers. Links to each blog appear below.

Marsha from Marsha in the Middle started blogging in 2021 as an exercise in increasing her neuroplasticity.  Oh, who are we kidding?  Marsha started blogging because she loves clothes, and she loves to talk or, in this case, write!

Melynda from Scratch Made Food! & DIY Homemade Household  – The name says it all, we homestead in East Texas, with three generations sharing this land. I cook and bake from scratch, between gardening and running after the chickens, and knitting!

Lisa from Boondock Ramblings shares about the fiction she writes and reads, her faith, homeschooling, photography and more.

Sue from Women Living Well After 50 started blogging in 2015 and writes about living an active and healthy lifestyle, fashion, book reviews and her podcast and enjoying life as a woman over 50.  She invites you to join her living life in full bloom.

  1. Thank you for hosting, Marsha! Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. Thanks for the feature! I have a baby cataract too so will need surgery at some point. Thanks for the link-up

    • You’re very welcome, Gail! Last year, mine was a baby, too. I think I’m eligible now because it impacts my quality of life as I don’t drive at night.

  3. What a coincidence! I went to the site doctor last Wednesday and guess what? Yep, 25 of August the left eye and 2 weeks later the right! So we can share experiences, lol.

    • Well, I’m going to wait a little longer for two reasons. My left eye still has that irritating scuff mark, and I have to help Mike get out of bed which would be more than the 10 pound weight limit they put on you here. Good luck! At least, you don’t have to wait very long. I can’t wait to hear about your experience and results. If you don’t do a post, would you please email me?

  4. One of my good friends needs cataract surgery so I have been hearing a lot about it lately. I hope you can have it done soon – I have a feeling you will love the results and I do hope Nigel is getting stronger each day!
    xo,
    Kellyann

  6. My mom gets a shot in the eye once a month for macro-degeneration! Wild what they can do today! Hope your cataract surgery goes well!

    • Thanks, Mireille! I have heard about those shots. It’s amazing and a little frightening to think about a shot in the eye. But, if it helps, I’m for it! I hope your mom is doing better with them.

  7. Aww thank you so much Marsha!!! That is so nice of you guys to highlight me!!

I hope your hubby is doing well, I think about his recovery often as we go through Wyatt’s. And its effect on you as well! I hope that you are able to get your procedure soon!

    • You are so welcome, Erin! Thank you…it’s going OK…slow and somewhat steady. I really thought he’d be walking with just a cane, but a walker it is. I am tired, but it’s what I signed on for all those years ago! I am hoping for November maybe. I don’t want to wait too late as I have already hit my deductible for the year, and I don’t know how far out they book appointments. I’m sure you know all about those things.

  8. Well, I hope when you do have to go through the surgery all goes well!

    • Thanks, Joanne! I’m hoping it goes well, too. By delaying, it also gives my left eye more time to heal from the dry eyes.

  9. Thanks so much for another great party, Marsha! You and your cohosts are the best! Happy Sunday!

  10. Awe hope your eye is okay now. Not a nice thing for you. Thanks for hosting the linkup Marsha. Have a super week xx Jacqui.
