Week #78!
Welcome to another edition of Weekend Traffic Jam. Look for the link up to go live Thursdays at 9:30pm EDT. Melynda, from Scratch Made Food! & DIY Homemade Household, Lisa, from Boondock Ramblings, and Sue, from Women Living Well After 50 and I are the hostesses for the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot. Sue’s post goes live in Australia on Friday at 12:30 pm.
How has your week been? Well, yesterday (Wednesday) was a day! I voted! It was the first day of early voting in our town at the one and only place you could do so. I waited in line for three hours. What I really loved about it was the camaraderie in the line that wound its way through the stacks of the library. No one was talking politics (that I heard), but everyone was chatting with everyone else. The man in front of me received a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam. I thanked him for his service with a handshake. He thanked me and said it meant a lot to him. I know a few Vets from that war, and their return was not a happy one. I make it a point, now, to thank Vietnam Vets with a firm handshake and a “thank you for your service.” I know it wasn’t a popular war, and I remember hearing the body counts every night on the news. But, those Vets didn’t start that war, and they deserved and still deserve our thanks for their service. Off my soapbox now. Oh, and we had a freeze last night…not even a frost…a freeze! I covered up the plants I want to keep for a bit longer. Surprisingly, nothing was killed that wasn’t covered. I think that’s because they absorbed the residual heat from the house.
The four of us would like to see the Weekend Traffic Jam grow bigger, so please link up your favorite posts! I’m especially looking at my fashion friends! We are woefully underrepresented in the link up! They can be fashion, DIY, food, lifestyle, travel, you name it! Please visit the other co-hosts as well as two or three of those linked! You just might discover a new blog. I know that’s how I’ve discovered so many and found new friends. And, please spread the word about Weekend Traffic Jam
Featured favorites from last week…
And, now, it’s your turn!
Please link up your favorite posts, DIY, baking, gardening, fashion…you name it…as long as it’s family friendly! Don’t forget some of your older posts might be just right for this time of year! Link up with me, visit a couple of others, and leave a comment or two! No worries if you don’t have a blog, just look around! You may find a new blog just waiting for you!
I think vets get way to less respect. So good on you! My grandfather was a vet from the Indian war. Thanks for your story.
Thanks, Nancy. My brother-in-law wouldn’t wear his uniform when he got back from Vietnam because he knew how the returning soldiers were treated. It’s such a sad and terrible thing as they certainly didn’t start the war.
Well done for thanking the veteran. A good thing to do. Have a good weekend
Thanks, Gail. It was such a small thing, but I could tell it meant a lot to this man. Have a wonderful weekend, Gail!
I can’t even imagine standing in line for three hours to vote. No wonder so many people don’t want to. I live in a tiny little town and I always just walk right in and vote. No wait at all. That is great that no one was discussing politics in line. We had a deep freeze too, although ours killed a lot. I covered my mums because they were still blooming so beautifully I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. Thanks for the party
I have stood in line for that before. I think voting is an essential privilege in our country…now more than ever. I do think it’s a shame more people in the US don’t vote because we are relying on the minority or a bare majority of the people to elect the people who make the decisions in our country. So, I would wait even longer if necessary. I may not enjoy it, but it’s my duty.
I didn’t cover my mums, but I think they were close enough to the house to not be effected. And, you are welcome for the party!
We always make a point of thanking any vet we might see. We should all be incredibly grateful for their service and sacrifice. Our early voting does not start for a few days yet but we plan to be in line to vote early. As always, thanks so much, Marsha for hosting each week. Appreciate the features and love coming to your Blog to share. Have a wonderful week.

I do try to thank every vet, but I especially want to recognize the vets from the Vietnam War. They were treated so badly when they returned. I’m so glad you link up with us every week, Lynne!
I went to vote on Wednesday and it was the second day: I was in and out!

This was the first day for our town which is quite large. I didn’t want to go to the county government center because I figured the lines would be too long! After the first hour, I wasn’t going to give up!
Thanks, Mireille!
I couldn’t agree with you more, Marsha… taking the time to thank a vet is the least we can do for the service he/she has given us all! I’m grateful for them all! Thanks for hosting this weekly party! We love participating! Today we are sharing #49 and #50.
Thank you, Laura! My husband started doing this years ago, but when he isn’t with me, I do it. I think most vets (active and retired) are surprised and pleased to be recognized. And, thank you for linking up with us.
I always try to thank Vietnam vets too because I feel so bad for how they were treated upon their return; it’s not their fault.
The father of our nextdoor neighbor at our last house said he was spit on and called all kinds of names. When Mike’s older brother came home, he made sure not to wear his uniform because he knew how he would be treated when he got off the plane. It’s awful that they lived through that. And, so many are gone now. My BIL died from Agent Orange complications in his early 60s. It was a fast growing cancer that came from exposure.
Marsha,
My link Ups for this week are #60, 61 and 62….

I am so glad you link up with us, Deb! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and following week!
Thanks Marsha, you do a great job with your linkups! I can’t imagine waiting in na queue for so long to vote but good on you and for thanking the Vietnam Vet too. Have a great week x
You are welcome, Debbie! I would wait for even longer to vote as it’s such an important thing to do right now in our country. My husband is the one who got me started on singling out Vietnam vets as his brother was one. It was so hard when he passed as a result of Agent Orange. I know Mike misses him every day.
Hi Marsha, so many good posts linked up this week. It will be difficult to choose my favourites! Thanks for organizing the codes etc for us. x
It is always difficult to pick favorites. You’re welcome for the codes!
Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
You are welcome, Patrick! Thank you for linking up with us! Have a terrific week!
