Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot!

Week #82!

Welcome to another edition of Weekend Traffic Jam. Look for the link up to go live Thursdays at 9:30pm EDT. Melynda, from Scratch Made Food! & DIY Homemade Household, Lisa, from Boondock Ramblings, and Sue, from Women Living Well After 50 and I are the hostesses for the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot. Sue’s post goes live in Australia on Friday at 12:30 pm.

How has your week been? While this week hasn’t been nearly as busy as last week, I’ve still been on the run a lot! The Women’s Ministries group at my church has been decorating Chrismons which are Christmas tree ornaments. They are traditionally done in white and gold. My old church up north had these types of decorations, too. Surprisingly, the first Chrismons were created in 1957, but I think they became a thing in Lutheran churches in the 70s or so. Anyway, those first ones at my old church and the new one were done with styrofoam, glitter, and other gold doodads. Ours were becoming tattered so wooden shapes were ordered a year or so ago. The project was turned over to this group (which I’m in). We’ve now spent two nice afternoons using glue guns, glitter, sequins, all kinds of trims, and pearls to decorate the new Chrismons. I can’t wait to see them on the tree during the Christmas season.

The four of us would like to see the Weekend Traffic Jam grow bigger, so please link up your favorite posts! I’m especially looking at my fashion friends! We are woefully underrepresented in the link up! They can be fashion, DIY, food, lifestyle, travel, you name it! Please visit the other co-hosts as well as two or three of those linked! You just might discover a new blog. I know that’s how I’ve discovered so many and found new friends. And, please spread the word about Weekend Traffic Jam

  1. Hi Marsha, I’m so pleased we met and I always enjoy co-hosting Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot with you. Have a lovely weekend. x

  2. I’ve had advent calendars on my blog one or the other year, about Christmas traditions, Christmas stories, last year it was a crafty one, and researching for them I learned about Chrismons for the first time. It’s not something we have in Germany as far as we know and I also never heard about them when we still had Americans stationed in town.
There is, however, a church-related magazine called Chrismon.
    You never stop learning!

    • Hmmm…that’s interesting that there is a church magazine called Chrismon. I haven’t ever had an Advent calendar. I made one one year for my daughter, but it got lost somewhere when they moved. I really should make another.

      Thanks, Cat!

  3. Thanks for the feature! Have a great weekend

    • It was fun, my decorations were not that great. We had some ladies who were really serious about what they were creating. I don’t know that I’ll be able to show any photos as they’ll be on the church tree!

      Thanks, Suzy!

  6. Sounds like a fun week! It’s been busy here but I am excited for this evening. My 13 year old is in the Sponge Bob school play and he is Larry the Lobster.

    • Oh, what a fun evening for you and your family. I don’t know much about Sponge Bob, but my granddaughter could probably fill me in.

      Thanks, Mireille!

  7. Thanks so much for the shout out, Marsha! We appreciate it so much! I remember Chrismons being a big part of our Lutheran church’s holiday decor. I think my mom and I even embroidered a few! Definitely fun memories for me! Wishing you a great weekend ahead! Thanks again for highlighting our “Fine Motor Turkey Time” post!

    • You are so welcome, Laura! I loved your post! We had talked about embroidering some, but another woman had already ordered wooden shapes. We decorated those and had some truly lovely ornaments. I do hope you have a wonderful week, too!

  8. Sounds like you had a lot of fun creating ornaments with your church group, Marsha. What a wonderful tradition. they will look wonderful during the Christmas season. Thanks for hosting. It’s a lot of work and you are very much appreciated. Have a wonderful week.

    • We really did have a good time. Everyone was chatting and moving around, creating new Chrismons and conversations at the same time. You are very welcome for the link up. I’m so glad you join us!

  10. Hmmm, I’ve never heard of Christmons before. I can imagine all of that gold and white is beautiful on the tree, and made all the more special by the fact that the ornaments are handmade.

    • We always had them on the trees at our church up north, but I didn’t realize they had an actual name. I didn’t even realize they were a thing! I just thought they were the decorations that church had always had. They really will make the tree(s) beautiful, and I can’t wait to see them. Some of the women made some amazing Chrismons. I did not! Hahaha

      Thanks, Daenel!

  11. I always think November is too early to get the Christmas decorations out…only for time to pass so quickly that I wish I’d done it sooner! Thanks for hosting the link up!

    • You are so welcome, Emma! I’m glad you joined us! I do wait until after Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in November) so I usually only have the decorations up for about a month. Our Thanksgiving is late this year so it will be even shorter. I may break my rule if I can get my kids to come help me get things down from the attic and up from the crawl space!

  12. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

    • You are welcome, Patrick! I’m always glad you link up. I would love to subscribe to your blog but can’t seem to figure out how to do it!
