Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot!

Week #107

It has been a week, my friends. Nigel is one week post op with the left hip replacement. He’s doing fairly well with walking. Pain, though, is a hard one. The man has an extremely high pain threshold and hates that 1-10 scale (I do, too, for that matter). He’s on some powerful pain meds which are making him a little loopy. It’s extremely disconcerting when you’re used to someone who is very analytical and precise. And, getting up every three hours during the night isn’t fun, either. All that to say two things…THANK YOU for all your good wishes, and I will try to get back to my regular schedule next week. Also, you’ll notice this is an abbreviated WTJR. I apologize for that. Anyway, welcome to the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot! Look for the link up to go live Thursdays at 9:30pm EDT. Sue’s post goes live in Australia on Friday at 12:30 pm.

Wouldn’t you like to know more about your hostesses? We’ve got you covered there! Please feel free to drop by the others to see what their blogs are all about! We are a very diverse group of bloggers. Links to each blog appear below.

Marsha from Marsha in the Middle started blogging in 2021 as an exercise in increasing her neuroplasticity.  Oh, who are we kidding?  Marsha started blogging because she loves clothes, and she loves to talk or, in this case, write!

Melynda from Scratch Made Food! & DIY Homemade Household  – The name says it all, we homestead in East Texas, with three generations sharing this land. I cook and bake from scratch, between gardening and running after the chickens, and knitting!

Lisa from Boondock Ramblings shares about the fiction she writes and reads, her faith, homeschooling, photography and more.

Sue from Women Living Well After 50 started blogging in 2015 and writes about living an active and healthy lifestyle, fashion, book reviews and her podcast and enjoying life as a woman over 50.  She invites you to join her living life in full bloom.

As part of our new year reboot, we are now shining the spotlight on a different blogger each week. We invite you to stop by their blog, take a look around and say hello! This week, we spotlight Pam from A New Lens.

Pam says, “In June 2014, I retired from all the jobs that had filled my days and once again the stirring inside to return to writing grew louder. Now I have the time to begin writing again and expand my love of photography. It is a new season of discovery!  I hope you will join me and be encouraged to give room in your life to develop that passion within you that you may have set aside for a long time and feared risking to explore.” You can visit Pam here, and please tell her we sent you!

And, now it’s your turn!

Please link up your favorite posts, DIY, baking, gardening, fashion…you name it…as long as it’s family friendly! Don’t forget some of your older posts might be just right for this time of year! Link up with me, visit a couple of others, and leave a comment or two! No worries if you don’t have a blog, just look around! You may find a new blog just waiting for you!

  1. Hi, Marsha – You’re taking such good care of Nigel! May his pain be alleviated now. Blessings to both of you – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

    • Thanks, Angie! I’m discovering a bit of a pattern so, hopefully, that will help with his pain. He says this leg definitely hurts worse than the other one did.

  2. Sending prayer for Nigel. It’s hard when something done to relieve pain causes pain, you regret having it done. At least with the original pain you know what to expect. I agree about the pain scale, as a practicing physician I found it unhelpful. Some people can walk in smiling and say their pain is a 10, which didn’t make sense to me. However, my husband is exact in rating his pain and knows the difference between a 5 and a 9. Thanks for the link-up and for going the extra mile when you have every excuse not to.

    • Thanks, Aletha! Yes, he’s at that point right now when he’s saying he wishes he hadn’t had it done. But, I think, in the long run, this is going to be such a good thing for him (and me). I almost thought those three faces were better than the number scale. I did tell the nurses Mike’s #3 would most likely be someone else’s #7 or #8! He usually bears pain really well. You are so welcome for the link up. I’m glad you join us!

  3. You take our time, Marsha. Poor Nigel. He needs you right now. I wish he didn’t have to go through all this pain and suffering. I pray it gets better sooner than expected.

    • Thanks, Lisa! I’m hoping things get better soon. I know they are, little by little, but neither of us is very patient! Thank you for the prayers, too!

  4. THanks as always for hosting!

  5. Best wishes for a fast recovery for Nigel 🙏🏻👍🏻🤞🏻Hope the procedure was anterior because it’s usually a quicker recovery. At any rate, all the best for you both!

    • Thank you, Allison! It was anterior, and his surgeon is well known for doing them. But, gosh, is his leg all the colors of the rainbow right now!

  6. I hope you get your,, own,, Nigel back soon! Lol. Happy weekend Marsha.

    • Thank you, Nancy! I hope so, too. I miss him! The new one is a little funny at times, though! I have to turn my head and giggle! Have a wonderful weekend!

  7. I hate that pain scale too! I’ve been told by a few Dr’s and nurses that I have a pretty high tolerance for pain but I never would have thought so… but I do really hate taking pain meds and feeling out of it. Hopefully Nigel will be feeling more like his old self soon. Hang in there and make sure you’re taking care of yourself too!

    • I know…it’s so random, isn’t it? I really don’t even know how to answer it myself. I almost liked the three faces better…do you remember those? One was smiling; one was frowning; and one had a straight line for the mouth. I am hoping we can cut back soon on the pain meds because he is definitely feeling out of it!

      Thanks, Joanne!

  8. Thanks for the link up Marsha!

  9. I hope things improve for Nigel very soon and he can back off the pain meds. Recovery can be a difficult process but you are a great nurse. Hopefully, each day is a bit better. Take care of yourself, too, during the recovery period.
    Lynne, Thrifting Wonderland

    • Thank you, Lynne! I am hoping he can get off the meds soon, too. He’s struggling a bit more with the aftereffects of them this time. We are working together on this because that’s how we roll! Hopefully, I’ll be giving a really positive update in the coming weeks.

  10. I’m so glad for the update on Nigel. I had been wondering. That first couple of weeks is hard. I’m hoping that having this hip done will help get the kinks out of the other one. Keeping you in my thoughts.

    • Thanks, Michelle! It’s hard because he just wants it to be fixed, and the reality is it will never be completely fixed. The right hip was so badly damaged that he’ll probably always need a cane. But, I do think having the left hip finally done is going to do such wonders in time! Hope all is well with you and Dan.

  12. Recovery can be such a rollercoaster ride, can’t it? Praying for you and Nigel as the weekend approaches! Thanks, as always, for hosting us all!

    • Thank you for the prayers, Laura! Yes, rollercoaster is the perfect way to describe it. He’s feeling better one day and lousy the next. I’m hopeful we will turn the corner soon. You are so welcome for the link up. I’m so glad you link up with us!

  13. Thanks so much for being featured this week. I always like stopping here each Friday😊

  14. The paws will be staying pretzelled for a quick recovery!

  15. All the best to you and Nigel !

  16. Sorry I am so late. Sending a prayer for Nigel. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

  17. Wow, a hip replacement…. That must be painful indeed. Good to read he’s doing as good as can be expected.

    • Thanks, Nicole! This is his second replacement. Given the colors of his leg, it must be painful. But, it’s getting better every day.
