Gallery of Style: “Blush & Blue”

“Blush & Blue”

Welcome to the Gallery of Style! I was pleased as punch when Laura agreed to my request to feature her gorgeous silk painting for Style Imitating Art. I hope you enjoy all the different interpretations in our Gallery of Style! If you’d like to read more about why I selected this piece of art, you can find that here. To read more about the art, the artist, and my outfit, you can find that  here! But, you’ve come to see not me, but the others who have joined in on the styling for “Blush & Blue,” right?

Gallery of style…

First up is my friend from St. Paul…Sally. I encourage you to visit Sally’s blog. She always has a little extra thrown in…make sure you read the entire post. You’ll see what I mean! Sally says, “I went in strong for the lily pad theme in this artwork, though I interpreted it a bit loosely with a palm frond print top, bright green flats, DIY paper bead bracelets including a green leaf motif, and a DIY layered necklace made using the Ponds & Lily Pads Curated Bead Box and tree jasper from my stash.”

Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey and one of our curators must have a magic cabinet full of brooches because I don’t think I’ve seen her repeat any. She says, “I have a tunic embroidered with lotus flowers (yes, I know it’s water lilies in the painting, but they’re similar), but it’s too warm for September, so I opted for this plaid skirt to mimic both the colors of the leaves and the bird, an ivory blouse for the light background, and pale pink heels for the water lilies themselves. And of course, I couldn’t leave off the flowers altogether, so I went with this silver lotus brooch – you can hardly see it in the photos, but it’s there!”

Next is Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge. Here’s what she says, “I thought this would be easy considering all the florals in my closet, but I really struggled! I landed on this thrifted Zara dress in light blue with a green floral print. It’s a lot of blue to represent the tiny bluebird but it works! I wore my birds on a branch necklace and feather earrings for Mr. Bluebird as well. Then I added a pink lacy robe and pink straw hat for the pink flowers. The black accents (sandals, Half Tee, and hat band) draw attention to the dark shadows and lines in the artwork. I would have never paired pink with this dress if not for this challenge but I really liked the end result!”

Finally, here I am! For some reason, I thought I needed a blue look. Then, I took a closer look at the art work and decided green was the predominant color (even though it’s called “Blush & Blue”). I decided this vintage April Cornell dress with my brown Leighton boots and pink topaz jewelry (along with my blue hair) hit all the elements!

And, that’s a wrap for this Gallery of Style!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Gallery of Style for Style Imitating Art…thank you to Sally, Salazar, and Shelbee (I feel like I need to change my name to something starting with S) for participating. Remember, you don’t have to have a blog to be a part of this style challenge. You can send a photo to the curator to be included in the gallery of style! We’d love to have more people join in! You can also still send me a photo, and I’ll edit the post to include you!

Coming up…

I hope you’ll come back next Monday to see the art work we’ll be styling and imitating! And, please visit all of the people who participated in this week’s challenge!

  1. Inspiring styles, thank you ladies.

  2. Great job, ladies! Another super gorgeous prompt that has led us all to some really beautiful outfits!

    Shelbee

    • Wasn’t it amazing? Did you notice Sally’s comment? Two of us went with one color scheme; two of us went the other direction! That’s what I love about SIA!

      Thanks, Shelbee

  3. Love the creativity in this Gallery of Style! Everyone’s take on the art is so unique and inspiring. Can’t wait to see the next challenge!

    • Thanks, Doris! It’s always so interesting to see what one person sees and another sees…we’re all different and see things differently! If you’d ever care to join in, we’d love to have you!

  4. Oh wow! I loved all of these interpretations and the outfits! Yours is great and I love that color in your hair too.

    • Thanks so much, Lisa! I have absolutely no idea how old this dress is. I’m guessing coming up on 15-20 years old. I’ve been wearing April clothing for at least that long. I’m not sure how much of the color will remain as I’m getting a hair cut soon! I grew it out so I could wear it in a pony tail during the trip. I knew it was going to be wet and windy…and it was!

  5. 2 outfits emphasizing the blue and pink, 2 outfits emphasizing the brown…we hit a nice balance there. I think I could create outfits for weeks based on this painting, it has so many different elements to play with!

    • Now, I didn’t even realize that! It really is a beautiful painting! I’m really hoping she does another event at our church so I can take the class. I may just do the online one, though.

      Thanks, Sally!

  6. That painting is one that could be interpreted so many ways with outfits. I loved seeing everyones looks!!
    Xoxo
    Jodie

    • Thanks, Jodie! It’s a gorgeous painting, isn’t it? There really are so many different aspects upon which you could build an outfit!

  7. Amazing looks…you gals are so creative 🙂

  8. It’s so fun to see how differently you all interpreted the artwork!

    • Thanks, Laura! I’m always amazed how the same piece of art can inspire so many different interpretations! That’s part of the fun!

  9. I think you nailed this! I love the way your dress picks up the green tones in the piece, and it all works so well with the blue ribbons in your hair! Too fun!

    • Thank you, Ashley! I was really happy with it after figuring out that green was the predominant color and not blue! I’m afraid next week my blue hair will be gone as I’m getting my hair cut.
