Week #78!

How has your week been? Well, yesterday (Wednesday) was a day! I voted! It was the first day of early voting in our town at the one and only place you could do so. I waited in line for three hours. What I really loved about it was the camaraderie in the line that wound its way through the stacks of the library. No one was talking politics (that I heard), but everyone was chatting with everyone else. The man in front of me received a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam. I thanked him for his service with a handshake. He thanked me and said it meant a lot to him. I know a few Vets from that war, and their return was not a happy one. I make it a point, now, to thank Vietnam Vets with a firm handshake and a “thank you for your service.” I know it wasn’t a popular war, and I remember hearing the body counts every night on the news. But, those Vets didn’t start that war, and they deserved and still deserve our thanks for their service. Off my soapbox now. Oh, and we had a freeze last night…not even a frost…a freeze! I covered up the plants I want to keep for a bit longer. Surprisingly, nothing was killed that wasn’t covered. I think that’s because they absorbed the residual heat from the house.

I think vets get way to less respect. So good on you! My grandfather was a vet from the Indian war. Thanks for your story.
