Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot!

Week 109!

How’s the weather in your neck of the woods? Summer has arrived regardless of what the calendar says. It’s been warm and a little more humid than I like. My flowers are growing well even though I’m in a losing battle with at least one bunny. Some kind of bird has decided one of my Boston ferns is a nice home and has built a nest in it. The last time I looked, there were at least two babies. There had been five eggs. And, a robin has built a nest on the baker’s rack on the back porch. There’s always a robin there giving me the stink eye when I’m watering the plants. Anyway, welcome to the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot! Look for the link up to go live Thursdays at 9:30pm EDT. Sue’s post goes live in Australia on Friday at 12:30 pm. Wouldn’t you like to know more about your hostesses? We’ve got you covered there! Please feel free to drop by the others to see what their blogs are all about! We are a very diverse group of bloggers. Links to each blog appear below.

Marsha from Marsha in the Middle started blogging in 2021 as an exercise in increasing her neuroplasticity.  Oh, who are we kidding?  Marsha started blogging because she loves clothes, and she loves to talk or, in this case, write!

Melynda from Scratch Made Food! & DIY Homemade Household  – The name says it all, we homestead in East Texas, with three generations sharing this land. I cook and bake from scratch, between gardening and running after the chickens, and knitting!

Lisa from Boondock Ramblings shares about the fiction she writes and reads, her faith, homeschooling, photography and more.

Sue from Women Living Well After 50 started blogging in 2015 and writes about living an active and healthy lifestyle, fashion, book reviews and her podcast and enjoying life as a woman over 50.  She invites you to join her living life in full bloom.

As part of our new year reboot, we are now shining the spotlight on a different blogger each week. We invite you to stop by their blog, take a look around and say hello! This week, we spotlight Anne at The Southwest Rambler.

Anne says, “I am a retired nurse from Bristol in southwest England I have been married to Bill for over 40 years. We have five grown-up children, two grandchildren and two cats. This Website is called the southwest rambler and I hope to be able to share some of my favourite walks with you. I belong to a local history walking group and in normal times we spend our weekends exploring the southwest of England and South Wales. I was very glad to rekindle my love of history which I studied in Bangor at the University of North Wales fifty years ago and I also love learning more about the flora and fauna of the area.” You can visit Anne here, and please tell them we sent you!

  6. It sounds as if the birds really enjoy your garden/yard, Marsha. We have a robin’s nest in the tree outside of our bedroom window of our northern Utah home. Since we aren’t there full-time, my husband installed a camera for me, so I can check on mama…and hopefully babies when they arrive…at my leisure. In the meantime, we had a funny bird episode in Southern Utah. The doorbell rang, and when I opened the door to the delivery man, about 10 baby quail (and I mean tiny little fur balls) ran in the house. I squealed, and most of them immediately ran back outside to mama, but two of the birds got turned around and couldn’t find the door. By the time my husband and I escorted them out, mama was gone. I Googled the best course of action (as one does), and learned that mama would likely return within a couple of hours, so leave the babies as they are. That’s what we did, and a couple of hours later babies were reunited with mama. So this story had a happy ending.

    • Now, that is the coolest story ever! It’s too bad you didn’t get it on video so you could relive it over and over. I’m so glad Google gave you good information, and the babies were reunited with their mama! I have tried to water around the next on the Boston fern, but I figure the little ones will soon leave the nest, and I’ll either be able to resuscitate my fern or not. Either way, I’m ok with it. Every time I go out the door, the mama (or whoever) flies away. The robin stays put and just gives me the stink eye as if I’d better stay away. We get nests in the ferns every year, but this was a first for the baker’s rack.

Thanks, Christie, for your wonderful story!

  7. Our weather has been mostly cool and rainy but we did have 2 whole days in a row that were in the 80’s and sunny this week!

    • I think we’re going to be in the 80s with storms and humidity for the next few days. But, you never know! Have a wonderful weekend, Joanne!

  8. I just keep imagining that mama robin giving you the stink eye. You’ll have a front row seat to watching her babies when they hatch.

    • Thanks, Olivia! She’s giving me an even stinkier eye because the eggs have hatched! I never got a count on the eggs so I don’t know how many babies there are.

  9. Hi Marsha
Lovely story! A couple of years ago we had a wren who nested in our aircon unit at the back of the house, such a teeny tiny gap to squeeze into. It gave us such pleasure to see the fledgelings appear.

    • Thank you, Pamela! It is amazing how they can get into the smallest places. There’s a new nest in the wreath on the front porch. The babies have all hatched, and the mamas are keeping an eye on me when I go outside!

  10. Summer is gathering her strength over here, and I’m having mixed feelings about that. I’m more of a Fall and Winter kind of person. I feel Summer is so extrovert….

    • I feel exactly like you do, Nicole! I am definitely a fall and winter person. Summer is so warm, but extrovert is another way to describe it!

  11. Hi, Marsha – Your fauna, flora and wildlife around your home sound wonderful – even if some of them are a nuisance! We feed and house a colony of five cats on our porch but have minimal plants in our flower bed and garden. We’re too busy…although I know you are super busy too! Thank you so much for featuring my blog post! I’ll be giving you a shout out on social media: Facebook, X, Instagram and Blue Sky. Take care – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

    • Thanks, Angie! Today, I watched three of those little (not so little anymore) bunnies cavorting on my hump! I went out and yelled at them, but they just every so insolently stared at me as if to say, “Make us!” Tonight, I glanced out the door to the back porch, and there they were, hopping under the settee to get to who knows where. I need to get some more red pepper flakes and spread those around. But, at this rate, I’ll need pounds of the stuff! You are so welcome for the feature!
