A Completely Different Look!

Oh, look! I have that classic blogger position down pat!

I commented on Rena’s post I really struggled with defining my style. My brother told me the look on my last post (here) reminded him of Magda (I think she’s probably a character on “Dark Shadows”). Someone else said it was bohemian. I think the look was boho with some hippie vibes thrown in. Today, my look is almost a polar opposite! And, that’s actually the way I dress. I wear whatever happens to go with my mood. Of course, there are days I dress in opposition to my mood to raise it right up.

Extroverted introvert…

I consider myself an extroverted introvert. I will gladly stay home rather than go to a party (like I’m invited to many of those). But, once I get to a party or other event, I usually have a wonderful time and come right out of my shell. Most people are shocked when I tell them I’m extremely shy. That’s because I really push myself to not be shy. One of the downsides of being an introvert when you’re a blogger is taking photos out in the wild (aka the public). I’m becoming more and more comfortable with it, though. I think that’s because we almost always go to the Indianapolis Museum of Art. There are many galleries where we can snap a few photos when no one is around. Nigel often picks out spaces for backdrops. Sometimes, they are successful; sometimes, they’re not.

My outfit…

As soon as I saw this ruana (that’s what they call it) at J Jill, I knew it would be in my closet. It’s velvet, colorful, and a kimono (that’s what I call it). I keep looking at it, and I honestly can’t tell what the design is. J jill describes it as paisley florals which is as good a description as any. What I really wanted to wear with it was a pair of slim black velvet pants. I don’t have any of those so I just went with a pair of slim black ponte knit pants. I also wore a boatneck pima tee. Basically, I created a column of black. This ruana would look really good over a black dress, too. One of the things I noticed was that it kept slipping down my back. I’m not sure if that was because of my bag or not. I like how the colors give the idea of iridescence. It’s not, but the way it’s been created gives that impression. I feel like a less-sexy-than-usual Blanche Devereaux!

Bloopers…

I should keep photos and do a blooper post some time! I really liked the color of the walls and the artwork in this gallery. I usually check the photos, but I didn’t this time. I don’t think I have an overly big nose. But the shadow of my nose in these photos makes it look like I’m missing my front teeth! First, I was disappointed. Then, I just laughed and decided to share them with you!

The Lewk!

You probably didn’t even notice I was wearing my Suzette boots because I’d pulled the pant legs down over the tops of the boots. I was worried it would be a bit bunchy, but I worried for naught. I did know I wanted to wear my John Hardy Bamboo jewelry. Some of it is on sale right now! Nigel bought me all of this jewelry over the years for various birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmases. The ring, earrings, and bracelet are older gifts. The necklace was under the Christmas tree this year. John Hardy plants bamboo seedlings for the bamboo collection. My items equal six bamboo seedlings. I know it’s not much, but it’s something.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

I’m sorry this was such a short post. Some of you are probably happy about that! The time just got away from me this week. I’ve been busy working on some different writing projects. All of them are coming along quite nicely. So, can we talk? Are you able to define your style? Do you find it an important thing to do? Or, does your mood dictate your clothing choices? Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as soon as possible.

Thank you!

  1. Very stylish, Marsha and I love your jacket especially . I’m going through a bit of a phase myself where I’m not completely happy with my ‘look’. I think we all go through those stages. Then it’s time to mix it up and try something new. Thanks for the inspiration. x

  2. This outfit is right up my alley! You look great in it, it’s simple and ckassy. Love the museum exhibit as a backdrop.

    • Thanks, Mireille! I like going to the museum, and I have to tell Mike we’re done with photos so we can just enjoy the museum!

  3. I love your style Marsha, you wear color and print so well! Today’s post is no different with you looking absolutely lovely.
I consider myself an extroverted introvert too!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Oh, thank you so much, Kellyann! It just occurred to me that I wear such diametrically opposed clothing because the photos were beside each other in my folder! Yes, I can see you as an extroverted introvert. I wonder if most educators are.

  4. I think it’s ideal to have a couple of different styles that we wear instead of always looking the same. Bravo to you and doing just that.
I think the boots really give the look a modern vibe. They are edgy instead of the boring black boots I see on women most of the time.
    LOVE this, Marsha,
    OXOX
    Jodie

    • Thanks so much, Jodie! I keep thinking I should know my style at my age. But, my style seems to be constantly evolving, and I kinda like that I’m actually comfortable wearing just about anything. My only concern with wearing the boots with those pants was that they would be scrunched up, but the pant legs fit just perfectly!

  5. This is a great look on you Marsha and the backdrops are fun to see as well. I like the fact that Nigel was in the mirror shot :).

    • Thank you so much, Debbie! I am learning to be not quite as shy, but I’m still not eager to be around people. They always ask if we want our photos taken together!

  6. I think I tend to dress more classically but will definitely mix it up to suit my mood. I love this outfit. That sheen on your ruana is perfect.

  7. That paisley kimono is stunning! I love the shimmer/sheen to it. It’s a miracle if we get out anywhere to get photos. Thankfully we have a few areas in our yard that work out ok!

    • Thank you, Laura! It is even better IRL! The velvet edges are so pretty, too. I am hoping to figure out where, in our yard, the best place is. We are just so close to our neighbors now (even closer than before). There’s a new park not too far from us that I’d like to try.

  8. I feel like my style is constantly changing because I always dress for my mood too. Your rauna is gorgeus! The museum is a great spot for your photos!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • Thanks, Jill! There are days I would say I definitely know what my style is, and then there are the rest! I really like going to the museum because we are always finding new exhibits. And, Mike enjoys finding the spots for photos!

  9. Marsha, I absolutely adore this outfit! That ruana is stunning. And the little bit of iridescence really makes it super special. I really like Nigel’s accidental appearance, too! How funny! I, too, am an extroverted introvert. I prefer my solitude most of the time but on the rare occasions that I do social things, people are always surprised when they learn that I am very socially anxious, awkward, and shy. This was a fun post to read and I am cracking up at your nose shadow photos!

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I keep looking at it trying to figure out how the iridescence even works, and I can’t. If I’m going to be with people I know, I’m much more talkative. But, if I’m in a situation where I know no one or very few, I just try to fade into the woodwork. I kept looking at those photos trying to figure out why I looked so weird. Then, I realized it looked like my upper teeth were missing, and that’s when I saw that my nose cast such a big shadow! Who knew!

  10. I love the ruana/kimono, it’s really beautiful. I find it hard to define my style because I choose my outfit depending on my mood. I’m like you in that I don’t go out often but when I do I’m usually pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy it. I’m less self-conscious about taking photos in public that when I first started blogging, but I much prefer to do them in my garden!

    • Thanks so much, Emma! I’m beginning to see a pattern amongst bloggers…we seem to put off going out but enjoy it once we get there!
