A Fun Take on Gauchos!

Liquid Leather™ Front Pocket Gaucho Pants c/o, Cozy Texture – Textured Tipped Hem Sweater Top – Floral Puff, c/o

A wee bit of history…

When Nigel and I were first married, I worked at Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana. And, yes, when we answered the phone, we had to say that entire name! I was a group billing clerk which meant I processed insurance application cards for new hires at businesses. This was waaay back in the day when the cards other women and I processed were then sent to key punch operators! They would do their special brand of magic, and then something or other would end up being input into a computer. When I was first hired, we were taken on a tour of the building. At the time, the mainframe computer took up an entire floor, if memory serves me correctly! I almost bet our phones or tablets probably have that same amount of computing power.

A little more…

The dress code at Lincoln Life was office…not business casual…office. We wore dresses, blouses with slacks or skirts. I think we could occasionally wear jeans on a Friday, but if I remember right, we had to donate $1 in order to do so. Anyway, I needed clothes because my wardrobe consisted of jeans, jeans, and more jeans. Actually, I did have a couple pairs of nice bell bottoms. The reality was I needed some clothes, and I finally convinced Nigel of that need. I remember placing an order with Sears for about $200. That represented more than two weeks’ pay at the time. One of the outfits I got was a vest, turtleneck, and gauchos. The vest and gauchos were in a non-wale corduroy, if there is such a thing. They were a beautiful rusty brown color. The turtleneck was striped in varying shades of rust and cream.

Do not adjust your television screen. I was only playing around with my camera!

A skosh more…

I loved that outfit! I had a luscious pair of leather boots with soles made from some strange spongy material. They were kinda bouncy as you walked, but I often tripped as that material caught on carpet. I know I’m not describing this very well. I just googled it, and it looks like they may have been crepe soles. Anyway, I thought I looked quite spiffy in my vest, turtleneck, gauchos, and leather boots. Nigel, however, did not! For some reason, he despised those gauchos. I would ask him, but I doubt he even remembers them! Edit: He vaguely remembers them, and I’m impressed! Did you know there is a difference between culottes and gauchos? I never really thought about it until that cropped up (pun intended) in a google search for gauchos! Culottes are fuller and designed to look more like a skirt when worn. Gauchos are a wide legged cropped pant.

See? Gauchos!

My new gauchos…

When Clara Sunwoo reached out to me to see if I would like something from the fall line, I couldn’t click that link fast enough! I was thrilled to see these Liquid Leather™ Gauchos were part of the line. I knew the gauchos would be the perfect length to wear with my boots. I added the Cozy Texture Tipped Hem Sweater in Floral Puff for a fun and edgy look. Let me tell you about these gauchos. They are so comfortable with a wide pull on waistband. And, they have pockets!!! Now, remember, I’m only 5’1″ so they will probably be shorter on you. What about the sweater, you say? It is so soft and luscious as well as being downright cozy. The floral puffs come from these little specks of white puffs scattered across the print. I also really like the hemline of the sweater. It’s curved upward for an interesting take on asymmetry. This is actually a turtleneck, but I decided to just let it drape a bit like a cowl neck. I did fold it down as a turtleneck and found it not constricting at all (don’t you hate when that happens). I’m looking forward to wearing both pieces again and again together and with other things in my closet. Don’t forget! You can use my code, MARSHA10, for 10% off your entire order. Shipping is fast and free!

Just a little giggle…

My bonus daughter will probably laugh her head off when she reads this post (hi, Steph)! She often quotes me about certain trends. Now, I will have to eat crow! I once told her, and she has never forgotten, “If you’re old enough to have worn it the first time, you probably shouldn’t wear it the next time.” I can’t remember in what context I said that, but I still kinda sorta maybe stick by it. But, I’ve been known to be wrong before!

The Lewk!

I simply adore these L’Artiste Rodeha boots! They combine all kinds of different looks…edgy, western, feminine! And, they are comfortable to boot, no pun intended! There are two different necklaces here. One of them matches the earrings and is Kendra Scott. The other is a multi-layered necklace by Stella & Dot. I almost always wear them together…probably because they hang on the same hook! I am definitely a matchy matchy kinda girl when it comes to accessories. I like my earrings to match my necklaces. Sometimes, that creates problems as not all retailers think the same way! Luckily, Kendra Scott seems to do so. I don’t have links for any of these as they are a few years old now.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

I have had many people ask me if all of the clothes I wear on the blog have been gifted to me. While that would certainly be wonderful, the truth is I buy almost all of the clothing I show. But, I have to tell you I thank the blogosphere for bringing me to the attention of the women at Clara Sunwoo! I have loved everything I’ve received from them. The quality is there as is the classic nature of the designs. So, can we talk? Did you wear gauchos back in the day? Is there something you swore you’d never wear again, but are or did? Why do we always think cozy when we talk about a really good sweater? Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk! I promise to respond as soon as I can.

  1. Haha, yes I’m guilty to of such a comment. Sadly Steph had a good memorie then, lol. I love cropped trousers, better then a normal lenght. It looks so much more interesting. Great look Marsha!

    • Thanks, Nancy! You are right…with the right footwear, cropped pants are more interesting. I’d never thought of that before!

  2. Oh yes, re: don’t wear it again if you wore it years ago! I wouldn’t wear a mini skirt now, I have to say, but everything else, I would, updated though, of course. Those trousers are so smart but your boots are divine. Really, really love those.

    • Hmmm…would I wear a mini skirt? I might if I manage to drop some of this weight and have better legs. And, I’d also wear tights with it. I do love these boots, and I think they are just your style, Penny!

      Thanks, Penny!

  3. Oh my goodness Marsha – I remember having boots with that spongy kind of heel that bounced as I walked! I had not thought of that in years but just as I started reading your words it all came back to me!
I love your liquid leather gauchos – Clara Sunwoo makes such stunning pieces!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Thanks, Kellyann! Did you trip on the toes of your boots? That was always my biggest problem with them. I really do love Clara Sunwoo! The pieces I have are amazing!

  4. I only have one Clara Sunwoo outfit so far and I just LOVE it! This is a fabulous fall outfit. I don’t think I have ever worn gaucho pants though..

    • Thanks, Joanne! I don’t think gauchos have been in for a while. I think you and I have the same jumpsuit. I really love the brand. The clothing is so good!

  5. Marsha,
YES!!! I did wear gaucho’s back in the day and these look fantastic on you!! I enjoyed reading this post about a treasures outfit you had also back in the day…..Thanks for sharing!!
    Hugs,
    Deb

    • Thank you so much, Deb! We must be about the same age. I always like gauchos and was happy to try these. I am so glad you enjoyed the post!

  6. I don’t think I owned any gauchos back in the day and I don’t own any right now. I never felt like they looked right on me. I do have a pair of exercise pants that are gaucho-ish but I rarely wear them in public. They look cute on you!

  7. First I have to say that Rob was telling me that our phones have more capability than the computers they use to get the men on the moon. It’s amazing how far that technology has come
As for the thought about if you’ve wore the trend the first time you shouldn’t wear it the second time I think that doesn’t apply to us anymore because the longer we live there’s more chances those trends are coming back around. And if we don’t where I’m again how boring. I mean what would we wear??
    Xoxo
    Jodie

    • Mike tells me that all the time about our cell phones. It truly is amazing and slightly scary! I just thought it was funny how I mentioned that to Steph a couple of times. It’s kind of an inside joke to us now.

      I can think of a trend I don’t want to come back…bustles!!!

      Thanks, Jodie!

  8. Hi Marsha, fashions always return don’t they? I remember gauchos and had a pair. I do like the ones you are wearing and not sure how tall you are but you mentioned they were the right length. I’m 5’2″ so sometimes find I have to adjust the hem on pants and I don’t think I would like the challenge with the liquid leather pants. Very stylish and the top is lovely too. The boots are a fun edition as well. x

    • Thanks, Sue! It’s funny how fashion is truly cyclical though I’d hate to see the bustles return! I’m 5’1″ so they would be just a bit shorter on you. I wonder if you could just cut these off and not have to worry about hemming them at all. I love these boots because they just add that edge to any outfit!

  9. I was wondering how these fit when I saw them on the website. They look great on you! I like the length!

    • Thank you, Laura! They are really comfortable. I like that the pockets are not conspicuous. They would probably be shorter on you, though.

  10. They look good to me – I don’t know if I would wear them but I like them on you, especially with those boots.

  11. Do you know, I’ve never heard the word gauchos in connection with pants – only Argentine tango. You live and learn! I’m very impressed with the Clara Woo brand from what I’ve seen on you and Jess. Thanks for linking!

    • That’s so funny! I remember them from the 70s, but maybe you called them culottes? Yes, the Clara Sunwoo clothing is very nice!

      Thanks, Gail!
