Ageless Style: One and Done!

I really hope you’ve had decent, if not wonderful, weather, wherever you are in the world. It’s been raining here in Central Indiana! In the last few days, we’ve had over an inch of rain. It’s warm, but not beastly hot. Every day, I worry more and more about our poor planet. I did read a member of the US Congress suggested we plant 1 trillion trees to counteract the ravages of global warming. I did a bit of research. In order to grow that many trees, we would need much more acreage than we have in the contiguous United States. I guess they need to return to the drawing board! But, I digress! Today is the third Thursday of the month which means it’s time for an Ageless Style challenge. Joanne of Slices of Life suggested one and done! Now, that’s an open-ended prompt if ever I saw one! Last month, Bo chose movie characters. In the past we have done spring dresses, white tops polka dots, kind clothing, sumptuous fabrics, skinny jeans, and many other ideas. If you’re curious, you can find some of my looks hereherehere, and here. Please do visit the other hostesses of the link party (oh, yes, there’s a link party) at their various sites!

One and done…

Now, I’m guessing Joanne meant something you throw on and go. That would rule out any extra pieces like a jacket, a cardigan, or a kimono. That leaves us with dresses or jumpsuits, right? I mean, it could also be a onesie, but, luckily for you, I don’t have one! I was toying with wearing a nightgown, but mine are not particularly wonderful! Since I’ve already showcased all of my jumpsuits on the blog, a dress it will be! Gail commented dresses are my signature style so there you go! In real life, I wear them probably 3-5 days a week in the summer.

Meet Malone…

My daughter bought a Malone dress last summer. It was in beautiful shades of green and blue. I became obsessed with getting one. Well, when you find something you like, you buy more than one, right? I bought this one earlier this spring. It’s a bit long, and I’m toying with the idea of taking it up at the seam right under the bust. That would accomplish shortening the dress and bringing that seam up to where it should be. I really like this dress, but it would be so much better with pockets! What dress isn’t better with pockets? I couldn’t find any maxi dresses, but there is this short version available.

Sleeveless…

I know there are women my age who won’t go sleeveless. I admit there are days I don’t feel comfortable exposing my batwings to others. Today was not one of those days. I have been cleared to do some very light lifting so I think I may pick up those 2 or 3 pound weights and start getting these arms into some kind of shape. I really wish I could be happy with these arms, but I’m not. I also know we should embrace our bodies just as they are. But, that’s just not me. You, however, do you, boo!

The Lewk!

I haven’t worn these Birkenstock wedges as much as I thought I would. It’s not that they aren’t comfortable. I think it’s that they seem a little clunky. I need to get out of that mindset because they aren’t going anywhere. Other than my wedges, everything else is old. The earrings are Kendra Scott. The cuff is maybe Premier Designs, and the hinged bangle is from eBay.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

I love this dress so much I have it in another print which is just blue and white. I don’t get hung up on the cutesy names of Lilly Pulitzer prints so I don’t have a clue what this print is or the other one. I just like the dresses. So, can we talk? What do you think of when you hear one and done? Do you enjoy wearing dresses? Do you think you have a signature style? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as quickly as I can!

  1. That is such a pretty dress! Though I do prefer dresses with pockets too.

  2. That is a gorgeous dress! I love the colors.

  3. This is such a pretty print! I love the colors, so summery! I’ve never tried a Lily Pulitzer dress probably because I haven’t come across one thrifting!

  4. What a great summer dress! The colors and print are just gorgeous!

    • Thanks so much, Jill! I keep telling my daughter she really doesn’t look good in hers because it really is a gorgeous print! She just laughs and says, “You’re not going to get it!”

  5. I’ve been looking back at some older photos lately, and I saw some from when I was younger and fresher. And my skin was smoother, yet I have the distinct memory of hating my body almost my entire life. It brought me to the realization that I wasted a lot of time and energy not being happy with my body as it was. And I’m working so hard to change that thinking now. It may not be how I wished it looked or used to be, but there are so many blessings to take away from every day. Your arm comment made me think of this, so thank you for listening to my ramblings.
I love the dress…the colors, the style, everything. I like the idea of taking it up from under the bust. The other thought is you can add pockets. Just make them with any misc material and sew them in at the same time. I know you have the skills.

    • It’s funny you say you hated your body most of your life. I distinctly remember hearing my aunt talking about my legs at my dad’s funeral. That little snide comment created almost all of the body dysmorphia I’ve ever had. Just one sentence…that’s all it took. I’m so careful with what I say to young people because I don’t ever want to be the source of a lifetime of feeling badly about yourself. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop now.

I looked at the seam under the bust. It’s sewed with an elastic type of thread so it may be that I’ll take both to an alterations place because I don’t want to lose the stretchiness. I didn’t think about adding pockets myself. I just might do that once that seam is taken care of!

      Thanks, Jodie!

  6. I love this dress so much, especially for this time of year. The colors are vibrant and summery. I suspect the way it flows that it would be absolutely wonderful in the heat and provide a good amount of air flow. I hear you about the state of our planet and the crazy weather patterns that the world has been experiencing over the past several years. It worries me so much and yet there is all kind of contradicting and as you mentioned impossible solutions. I’ve been trying to just do better with buying less unless something breaks or falls apart. I’ve also been trying to buy less fast fashion but I am far from perfect there.

    • Thanks, Bo! It is very cool and comfy in the heat. I have really tried to stay away from fast fashion, too, but it’s difficult at times.

  7. Love the colors and print of that dress…but of course the most amazing thing in the post is that utterly adorable little doggy face! What a sweetie!

  8. Marsha, what a beautifully cheerful dress! I love the print and the fabulous bright colors! Lily Pulitzer really does have some marvelous prints. I think I would have interpreted “one and done” with a gorgeous dress as well! As for your arms and anyone else’s arms, I think if we appreciate all the things our arms do for us and have done for us, it makes it much easier to feel proud of what they look like. There are so many reasons to show off your arms…because it’s hot, because you can, because even “imperfect” bodies deserve to be seen and celebrated! Fun post, my friend!

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I always wanted to wear Lilly Pulitzer but could never squeeze into those cotton sheaths. I was so glad when they began making jersey dresses. I’m trying to love my body, but it’s not going well. I’m going to keep at it, though.

  9. That really is a one and done dress, everything about it is perfect- colors, style, length!

    • Thanks so much, Gail! It’s a bit long even with the high sandals so I’ve got to figure out what I’m going to do about it.
