December 10 on the 10th: Preview!

It’s a little early for another round of Would Your Rather, but everyone seems to like them so here we go! Remember that Roman calendar? Well, December would have been the 10th month. For those of you who took Latin, you’re shaking your head and thinking, “Yep, that makes sense.” For those of you who are more math minded, you’re thinking, “Well, yes, dec- usually means 10.” December comes to us from the Latin, decem, which means ten. Julius Caesar added the extra months, January and February changing December to the 12th month. The early Anglo-Saxons had a couple of names for the month, Winter Monath and Yule Monath. Somewhere along the way, that a was dropped! December’s full moon has a few names, too. One is the Cold Moon because it occurred during the coldest month of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere). Another name is the Full Long Night’s Moon. If the full moon occurs on the winter solstice, it’s called a Mourning Moon. December is Bingo Month as well as National Fruitcake Month. You can also celebrate National Brownie Day and National Lard Day on December 8th! Maybe some of you will celebrate Lutefisk Day on the 9th! Whatever holiday(s) you celebrate, I hope they are wonderful ones! I also hope you’ll link up below! Please spread the word as I’d love to see more people participating in both the 10 on the 10th and the link party!
