Welcome back for this week’s edition of the Fashion Files, hosted by Amy and me! If you don’t know Amy, her blog is Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa. If you’re a fashion blogger, this is the place to be. It’s the day of the week where I talk about the things I wore last week and what I did as well as anything I might have bought. It’s also the place where you can tell us about what you wore, what you bought, what you wished you’d bought! Please tell your friends about our link party because we’d love to see it grow and grow! So, let’s get the shenanigans going, right?

Last week’s looks…

Tuesday – I’m starting out with my “what I usually wear in the morning when I get my chores done” outfit. This is an old Newfields tee from the van Gogh immersive event and a pair of black yoga pants that I probably snitched from my daughter. Then, the second look is what I wore to do some returning at Loft and Old Navy. The skirt (isn’t it cute) is from…wait for it…WalMart! It’s from the Scoop brand. I think that’s under Brandon Maxwell’s creative direction. It’s so daggone cute and has pockets! The top is an oldy from Loft, and I wore my hot pink Miz Mooz Shay sandals. I have to say I got so many compliments on this ‘fit (that’s what one person said). I think it’s unexpected for someone of my tender years.

Wednesday – Well, when I stopped in at Old Navy on Tuesday, this little dress just hopped into my arms and begged me to take her home! I also bought Nigel some new Actvewear Tees there. Y’all, this dress is just so much fun (and pockets). The only thing is the back can be just a tad low so I had to find the right bra. I don’t mind bra straps, but I don’t like my bra band to show! Silly, I know. Nigel had physical therapy later that day so that was our big excitement.

Thursday – I had to give a presentation on Emile Bernard for my European Core. In 1998, the IMA acquired several pieces of art from a Swiss collector named Samuel Josefowitz. Several of those pieces were by Emile Bernard. I really like him, but I’m not the biggest fan of his artwork. I wore this Giraffe dress under this Zebra duster which is reversible, along with a grey slip. Of course, it was all from Gudrun Sjödén. I got lots of comments on it. I’m still trying to make up my mind…I think it needs another color to make it just right.

This was after I got home…it was very humid that day!

Friday – I was running late that day. Nigel had physical therapy that afternoon. Fridays are one of the days when I take an extra long shower, washing and conditioning my hair. Of course, he needed a shower, too. We aren’t at the point where either one of us trusts he can do that alone. We do have a shower chair, but that’s where it gets tricky. He has to transition from the wheelchair to the shower chair with a wet floor. Now, he doesn’t use the wheelchair very often…just in the middle of the night and getting in and out of the shower. Anyway, that takes time and makes me a little nervous…OK…a lot nervous. So, at the very last minute, I rushed into my closet and just pulled out a light dress. Want to know something special about this dress? It was in my very first post ever! Of course, it’s April Cornell!

I need to figure out how to make this less frumpy…there, I said it!

Saturday – Ah, this was what I needed. I had two hours of Gallery Conversations at the museum. These are just two hours spent wandering the museum, visiting all or just a couple of the galleries and speaking to guests. I love it because it makes me interact with people as well as stretching my memory as I want to give them a little information about what they’re looking at. It’s also one of those times when you have to read the room. Some people want to be left alone while others would be more than happy for you to give them a complete tour. I wore this beautiful Linen Blend Vintage Palms Midi Dress from J Jill. I might have mentioned that last week! The crocheted sweater is also from J Jill but probably a good 15 years ago! I also wore my sage green Miz Mooz Shay Sandals.

Sunday – I had to hurry up and take photos for Style Imitating Art because I’d left it to the last minute. I just couldn’t make up my mind. Then, I had to do all the research, write the post, and add the photos. I don’t call myself the Queen of Procrastination for nothin’! I really loved the way the photos came out, though.

And my gorgeous helper hair!

Monday – Nigel had an appointment with the gastroenterologist. Actually, she’s a Nurse Practitioner, but she has done more for him than any of the MDs did! I wore a pair of my favorite horseshoe jeans and an old Nic + Zoe sweater because the weather turned a little chilly. After I dropped Nigel home, I went to Lowes for garden soil and potting soil. I might have also bought some coneflowers and daisies! That cool weather was wonderful because when I got home, I put on my shorts and the Newfields tee seen in the first photo and started watering plants. Then, I decided to trim one of the bushes. We had a tree die so our oldest picked up a hydrangea bush. He was coming over after he got done at work to plant it. Wouldn’t you know…he planted that bush, then took the clippers (or whatever you call them) from me and trimmed the other two bushes faster than I had done one! I finished watering after he left. I still have to plant those flowers, though!

Purchases…

Other than the flowers and dirt, I don’t think I bought anything this past week. Wait, I did buy a couple of dresses from Tulip Clothing. There’s a blog post coming soon.

What to link up…

Please link up your favorite fashion posts, old and new. Please take the time to visit some of the other bloggers. I’m sure they would appreciate it, and please let them know you are visiting from our link up! I really do thank Amy for being my co-host! Feel free to show us what you’ve been wearing, what you’ve bought, returned, or just thought about. Maybe you could share something you’d love to have but never will for whatever reason. You can tell us…we’ll understand. Tell us about your shopping habits. Do you enjoy thrifting, reselling, or online shopping? Just write a post about fashion of any kind. You could even do a review of an awards show. I know the Tonys just occurred. I can think of at least one outfit I’d never wear, but the guy wearing looked pretty daggone amazing! And, remember, even if you’re a movie reviewer, a baking blog, a book lovers blog, a blog that’s anything but fashion, I’m betting you get dressed. Snap a photo, write a little about it, and link it up! You really don’t have to dress up, either…take a look at my Monday look! I’m pretty sure we’ve got the bugs out of the link party now so you can link up through me or Amy! Just, please link up and spread the word! Thanks, my friends!

  1. My favorite outfit is the Giraffe/Zebra combination. What I would do for an extra color (as a fashion ignorant) is adding a necklace with a pendant that doesn’t blend in, but really pops in color, like a blossom would pop out between trees.

    • Thanks, Cat! I probably should have also worn it with the zebra side out. I was thinking the red beads of the necklace would complement the green of the print. But, it kinda gets lost in all the print. I might have a necklace or two that will work. Thanks for the suggestion!

  2. I love the little crochet sweater, that was my favourite look.

    • Thank you, Rosie! I have had this for so long, and it still looks new. Believe me when I said I wore it all the time. I was so glad it worked with the dress. It’s my favorite, too!

  3. The bold prints of your outfits look good on you! I’m not sure I have the confidence or the verve to wear them but you rock them! I like your Walmart skirt and the blouse you paired with it. The shoes are cute, too. That outfit is probably the closest to my style but I do like your other outfits.

    • Thank you, Maria! I love wearing bold colors these days. I think it makes up for the more subdued things I wore when I was teaching. I was so happy to find that cute little skirt! And, I have a thing for shoes! Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you’ll be back!

  4. Lovely looks Marsha! That Scoop skirt is fabulous and loving the Styling Imitating Art look is stunning! Thanks for the link up.

    • Thank you, Kathrine! I am just amazed at the Scoop line as well as others at WalMart these days. You are so welcome for the link up!

  5. I love the first pink outfit and I’m not surprised you got so many compliments. I really love the Old Navy print that you got. I tried on the blouse with that print and the blouse was too cropped. I could have pursued a tall online but I didn’t. I think the print works into fall.
Aren’t dresses so easy to throw on? You wear them well!

    • Thanks, Amy! I didn’t see a blouse. But, the minute I saw the dress, I knew I had to try it. I love skorts, but I just felt a little too exposed in it. I was so pleasantly surprised to get compliments on the pink outfit because I’d just thrown it together at the last minute. I do love dresses…a little too much!

  6. Kellyann C Rohr

Brandon Maxwell has done all kinds of good things for Walmart! Love your skirt.
That JJill dress is so pretty too – love that print,
I love that helper hair on you – you look so good in that photo, Not that younger is a goal but when I saw that photo on IG I had to do a double take!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Thank you so much, Kellyann! You were definitely the reason I tried helper hair in the first place. I will take that I looked younger…a receding hairline doesn’t help with aging you at all. It’s really cool that someone of Brandon Maxwell’s caliber is working with WalMart. It makes good looking clothing affordable for so many. I adore the J Jill dress. I know it’s understated compared to the Scoop outfit, but It’s just gorgeous IRL!

  7. These are all lovely looks but my favorite is definitely that red skirt outfit from Walmart! It is adorable.

    • Thanks, Joanne! It’s amazing what WalMart has now. Our store didn’t have these labels for a long time. I’m going to stay out of there as much as possible!

  8. The dress where you say to make it less frumpy, I would definitely wear a wide cognac belt on it preferably with studs. Then it would make it a very good look in my eyes. But the stunner…….. the most beautiful outfit ever on you…….. that skirt!!!! Wow, it looks amazing on you Marsha! And, without even knowing you really, I think that outfit reflects your sparkling personality the best!

    • Aww…Nancy!!! You always make me smile! I really appreciate you saying that. I am kinda speechless which doesn’t happen often! I will try your suggestion because the print is really pretty. I don’t know why I didn’t think to do that!

  9. Dresses are my go to when I’m in a rush. You have so many gorgeous dresses in your closet! Love that skirt from Walmart! What a great find!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • Thanks, Jill! I do love dresses and seem to buy them more frequently than anything else. I was so surprised at how much I loved this skirt when I tried it on!

  10. jodie filogomo

Seriously that Tuesday “fit” is heads up an absolute stunner. I hope you wear that one over and over.
    XOXO
    Jodie

    • Aww, thanks, Jodie! I think the lighting helped a lot, too! I can never get that right. But, yes, this skirt is so flirty and fun…I will be wearing it a lot!

  11. Marsha, you are really killing it with your outfits lately! I love them all. That short pink skirt outfit is so stinking adorable and it looks amazing on you. I am not surprised that you got lots of compliments on that one! I love that little J.Jill cardigan over that gorgeous dress, too. It’s all so good! I am still trying to master the mirror selfie so I can start sharing my regular daily outfits. So far, I have made no progress and my mirror photos are just too awful to share! LOL

    Shelbee

    • Thank you, my friend! I was so surprised to get so many compliments on the outfit, but the colors do work well with my coloring. There was a time when J Jill did clothing more like that crocheted sweater instead of the more staid things they do now. But, sometimes, they’ll come out with a really cool piece. I take way more than one photo before I get a good one so keep practicing!

  12. I just did a catch-up of your past week of posts, Marsha – Hubby and I were on a road trip and at a family reunion. I love that you and Nigel had motorcycle adventures. What a fun way to celebrate summer and I loved all the Youtube videos you included of songs about sunshine. Talk about memories!!! I loved all of your outfits this week and I’m quite impressed that you “dress up” most days. Sadly, Since retiring, I’m usually in leggings, a tank top and some other top or sweater, You – and “Fashion Files – are inspiring me!

    • Thanks, Laura! Well, to be perfectly honest, until I started doing this Fashion Files, you would find me in leggings/jeans and a top, too. Now, I realize I’ve got these clothes so I need to wear them. Oh, my gosh! I loved riding on the back of that motorcycle. Mike took a couple of trips with other biker buddies, but we never did one together. I’m so glad you enjoyed those videos. I think we’re about the same age so they probably brought back a lot of the same memories.
