Fashion Files and a Link Up!

Week 14!

Welcome back for this week’s edition of the Fashion Files, hosted by Amy and me! If you don’t know Amy, her blog is Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa. I hope this post finds you well. It seems like the world is on fire, doesn’t it? We are under a bad air advisory (my words, not theirs) due to the wildfires on the continent. My heart breaks for those near the fires as well as the people trying to conquer them. I think it’s a pretty clear signal Mother Nature is not happy with us these days. I hope, wherever you are, the weather is decent…let’s just go with decent. If you’re a fashion blogger, this is the place to be. It’s the day of the week where I talk about the things I wore last week and what I did as well as anything I might have bought. It’s also the place where you can tell us about what you wore, what you bought, what you wished you’d bought! Please tell your friends about our link party because we’d love to see it grow and grow! I try to visit everyone’s blog who links up, but for some reason, I can’t leave comments. If you don’t see a comment, please know I’ve visited, but I just can’t comment. I have seen other bloggers mentioning they were having problems with Google. I guess that means it isn’t just me. So, let’s get the shenanigans going, right?

Last week’s looks…

Tuesday – Last Tuesday was a really busy day for me. I had three two meetings at the museum. The first was an informal one with some docent friends to practice VTS. We spent more than 20 minutes on one piece of art. When I said we looked closely at that piece of art, I mean we looked closely! The piece is called The Eye of the Storm, and you can see it here. Isn’t it glorious? I always think of Mardi Gras when I see it. Following that, I had lunch with a new friend who was in my docent class. We’ve talked many times, but this was the first time it was just the two of us. She is so interesting. After lunch, we both had a Contemporary Core meeting. Cores are focused around the different genres/galleries at the museum. I also attend European Core meetings. I wish I had more time in my life because I’d attend the Asian, African, and Decorative Arts meetings if I could. Why, you ask? First, I’m curious and love to learn. Second, when I’m at the museum for Gallery Conversations, I use the information I gather at these meetings to speak about art I wouldn’t ordinarily have studied. We have extensive collections in the three I don’t attend so I really can only speak on a few pieces when I’m in those galleries. I like to look kinda artsy when I’m at the museum. I wore a pair of Old Navy striped linen pants with another Shortie Spellbound Kimono from Kantha Bae. This time, I wore it as a kimono rather than a dress. I added a navy linen tee so I wouldn’t have to worry about it coming open!

Wednesday – I worked on the blog for a lot of the day. I also did some laundry and cleaned a bit here and there. I really need to make a list of things to be deep cleaned. Nigel is also after me to replace the countertops, but I want to do those and the flooring at the same time. I just really need to get out and look at things. I put on this beautiful Paris dress from Gudrun Sjödén. If you’re at all interested in Gudrun Sjödén, now is the time to buy something! They’re having a huge sale…just pay attention to the item measurements and the fit. Items are final sale, I believe. I wore this to the Fashion Mall to go shopping with my oldest granddaughter. We were shopping for her back to school outfit. I can’t believe she’s going to be a Senior, and my grandson and younger granddaughter are going to be Sophomores. I remember going to their preschool programs. Le Sigh. I’m shopping with my youngest granddaughter later this week. My grandson wants to go shopping, too, but he wants to buy Legos. And, you know what? I’m more than happy to buy those for him to keep the little boy inside him having fun.

Thursday – OK, my oldest granddaughter has her calendar on her iPhone all colorful. I decided to do that, and everything has disappeared except for the default colors. I’m freaking out just a little bit because I rely on that calendar. I’m going to have to work hard to come up with all those missing appointments! Yikes! Anyway, breathe, Marsha, just breathe! There’s probably a way to restore the default so I’ll be doing that later tonight. In the meantime, on with the week. Nigel had physical therapy. I dropped him off and ran a few errands in order to pick him up after half an hour. I really do wish they would see him for an hour. But, what do I know? Later that evening, I ran to Avon (the next town over) to return some tees I’d ordered for Nigel. While I was there, the woman behind me complimented my sandals. She asked me if they were L’Artiste! I was so surprised. She said she’d seen them and always wondered about them. I told her to sign up for emails because they’re always running sales these days. She then complimented my dress, too! I wore this Kalamkari Tunic Dress from April Cornell. I’m not teeny tiny (meaning I have boobs) so I wore a black lace sleeveless Halftee under it (please use this link to shop…I may earn a commission if you do). One of the nice things about this lace Halftee was it kept the straps of the dress/tunic from falling off my shoulder. I also went to Menards to pick up dog treats, dishwasher pods, and Lemon Pledge (to clean my stainless steel). Exciting, right?

Friday – This was one of those rare days with nothing going on. So, I decided to finally organize Nigel’s vanity. We have two full bathrooms, and he decided, from the beginning, that this one was his. It’s fine with me because it doesn’t have a window which makes me claustrophobic. Anyway, he wanted his drawers and under the sink organized the way I’d done mine. Now, y’all are going to laugh at my organization tools. I use shoe boxes and Jo Malone boxes! I could make them look nicer by covering them with contact paper, but why bother? And, I know others would go to a place like the Container Store (is that even around anymore), but why do that when I’ve got perfectly serviceable things like shoe boxes! I didn’t wear this dress while I was doing that, though. After we had both showered, I put on this maxi dress I’d gotten at J Jill last summer. I think it’s definitely got a fall vibe about it, don’t you.

Saturday – I had two hours of Gallery Conversations at the museum. I have to tell you, my friends, I absolutely love Gallery Conversations. I meet interesting people, people who are interested in art, people who aren’t necessarily interested in art, and just people! I share little tidbits of information about pieces they may be looking at, or, sometimes, they’ll ask me about my favorite piece. I direct people to different galleries, snap photos in front of the LOVE sculpture, and try to share with them my love for the museum. I meet people from all over the world, too. This past weekend, I met a young woman and her parents who had flown in from Taiwan to celebrate. She had passed the bar on her very first try! They were just lovely to talk with and wanted to see our European art collection. On the way there, I asked if they wanted their photos taken in front of LOVE. They acted a bit surprised they could do that! Oh, my gosh! If I could be at the museum every day, I definitely would. I wore the Flower Meadow dress from Gudrun Sjödén with a blue-ish color slip underneath. I’m happy to report my Farrah and Freya flats from Miz Mooz stand up to a two hour stint at the museum. I was a little afraid I’d get blisters, but not a one has appeared. Again, if you’re thinking about trying Gudrun, this is the time to do it! There are even some winter weight things in the sale.

Sunday – Nigel wasn’t feeling quite up to par nor was I. He’d had a rough night which means I had a rough night. He is able to snooze throughout the day, but I just can’t seem to do that. I worked on the blog, trying to get caught up, but I never get caught up. Our oldest came over and fertilized the yard. I really had planned to do that, but Nigel had asked him to do it. So, I just let it go. I did water some plants. I planted some lupines on both the east and west sides of the house. The ones on the east are doing really well. The ones on the west are looking like they’re ready to give up the ghost. I knew I should have showered and made an effort, but I just didn’t have it in me. So, here I am in my working around the house outfit…Old Navy linen shorts and a very old Old Navy chambray shirt.

Monday – Nigel had physical therapy. We went back and forth over who was going to shower first. Actually, what happened was that I watered flowers the irrigation system doesn’t hit. Nigel took a nap while I did that. When I came in, I helped him with his shower. I just help him in and out of the shower. Then, I took a shower, fixed lunch, and finished getting ready. I wore this cute Poppie Quails dress from Tulip Clothing. I spent the remainder of the day working on this post.

In between…

I leave out a lot of what I do during the week. I have been crocheting granny squares for a cardigan. Here’s my conundrum. The yarn is an ombre. But, the ombre wasn’t ombre-ing the way I wanted it to do. The squares fell into specific patterns. I have almost enough ready to start connecting them. I have decisions to make. Do I make it symmetrical? In other words, do I make the squares match on each side of the front? Do I just put it together like a patchwork quilt? And, do I buy a completely different yarn (one solid color) to outline all of the squares so the joins aren’t quite as obvious? Decisions, decisions!

Purchases…

I bought my granddaughter a dress and a pair of sneakers. The sneakers (and a pair of sandals for me) were in the NSale. It was the day before I was “allowed” to shop. The sales associate said she could send them to me the next day so I bought both pairs and had them shipped. Now, think about that for a minute. They had to pay for shipping a humongous box instead of letting me shop one day early! That just makes no sense to me at all. I understand they’re rewarding people who spend oodles of money there. But, they spent a whole lot of money shipping that big ol’ box to me. Makes no sense at all, right? I did order a couple of things from Tulip Clothing because the entire site was 40% off. I also bought a few things from the Gudrun Sjödén sale.
